ASHANTI'S POV.

"No." I deny with my whole heart, shaking my head furiously. Tears burn at the back of my eyelids as I look at the man sitting in front of me. "No. That can't be true." I rise from the bed and start pacing. "All this time you knew we were mates yet you didn't say anything?" My voice is a crying mess. The tears in my eyes are pooling down my face and my breaths are coming in too hard.

My entire body is shaking with anger and disbelief.

"Ashanti." He calls, getting on his feet as well. "Baby." He tries to touch me but I slap his hand away from my arm and shoot him a deadly glare.

"Don't you dare touch me."

"I had a reason!" He says firmly and that only gets me more angry.

"What stupid reason? All this time, I thought you were hesitant about me because you didn't know I was your mate and there were several other candidates."

"Are you trying to tell me you felt the mate bond as well?" He asks with his brows furrowed.

"Yes, I did. My wolf signalled me the first day I saw you in that room with Alina. Since then she has been singing it to me everytime we're together and all this time I thought she was tripping."

"So, why didn't you say anything either?" He sounds annoyed. I stare up at him, stunned. "Yes." He nods his head. "I'm not the only one at fault here. I hesitated with you and so did you with me."

"Are you fucking kidding me right now?" I scream at the top of my voice. In tears. I sniffle and angrily mop my face with the back of my hand before slapping his face with another glare. "I did not hesitate. I was terrified! That day in the hallway, I almost lost my balance when my wolf gave me the signal. I couldn't believe it! You were the Lycan King and what was I? An ordinary Harem girl who had come to pleasure your men. How was I supposed to present such a claim to you? It was your place to tell me about our mate status because you were the superior one. But you didn't!"

"Like I said, I had a reason."

"I don't believe you. I know how strong the mate bond is. I've felt it. I still do now. The only thing that stopped me from telling you every time I saw you or spent time with you, was fear. Fear of the fact that you'd deem me a liar. Fear of the fact that it'll further enrage you especially after the demise of your former mate. But for you, I see no reason why you would be scared. You have no reason to be scared about claiming me because you are the fucking Lycan King!" I shout, angrily poking his chest with my index finger.

"But that didn't stop my former mate from being taken away from me!" He roars and I calm down. I look at his face and see that he's hurting. Like he's touched a sensitive topic he never wanted to talk about.

"What?"

He shakes his head.

"Nothing, it's nothing." He looks at me again. "Just know there's a reason why I didn't claim you the moment I saw you."

"Is it because I wasn't a Lycan? Were you disappointed? You hated the fact that your new mate was an ordinary werewolf, that's why you didn't make a move."

"No. That's not true. I didn't claim you because I was scared of losing you. I was scared that the same fate which befell my ex-mate would befall you. I was scared they'll take you away from me just like they did her. Fear stopped you from telling me. Fear stopped me from telling you as well!"

I violently shake my head at his words.

I don't believe a thing he just said.

"Alpha Reagan, I suffered in that Harem! Girls taunted me every now and then. Alina and my sister Rhea made my life a living hell. I was in pain every fucking day and you knew that. All you had to do was claim me. Let everyone know I was your mate and take me away from there so the suffering would stop but you didn't. Look at the amount of time it took for you to get the decision of getting me out of that Harem. And right now I don't even know if you were ever going to tell me you knew about our mate status. You think any of that makes sense?"

"Ashanti..."

"I cannot accept the fact that you didn't choose me, your fated mate, at first glance. It seemed you were considering other people because you kept sleeping with other girls even though you knew we were fated. You even got one pregnant."
