The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 28

Avalyn's POV

"... and I remember my mother whopping my a*s so bad, I had to walk on crutches the next day. It was so bad, I almost lost my legs!"

I let out a loud laugh as Monty finished telling the exaggerated tale of how his mother had punished him when he was younger.

"That's so stupid..." I cackled loudly, causing him to join in on my laughter. "How is that even possible? You're a werewolf." I asked once I had managed to subdue my laughter. "You are supposed to heal," I cackled.

It was just impossible not to laugh at his stories. How could a werewolf use clutches for days? He was even an Alpha's son, it meant he had heightened abilities. His legs should snap back into place in seconds! "Well, that is true..." He drawled, pinching his chin as if he was deep in thought.

I didn't know why I had been super cautious about him at first, he was so funny once I had gotten to know him. We were currently seated on the beautifully trimmed grass, looking forward at Dawn who had finally gotten the cat -whose name I had learned was Jet- to warm up to her, with crackers of course.

She had confirmed that he didn't steal the cat or anything. It truly belonged to his brother and besides I could testify to only seeing the cat on the night they had come to the palace.

"It still doesn't mean my legs didn't break though," Monty finished with a bright smile on his face.

Monty was really fun, he was a breath of fresh air. He had revealed to me that he was here mainly to find himself a mate, someone who could rule his pack with him once his father stepped down. I had provided my little encouragement and wished him good luck, as that was all I could do as his... friend?

I didn't even know if we were friends yet. We'd been talking for the past forty-five minutes, so I guess we were friends.

"Are you going to be at the dinner tonight?" He asked me, dragging me from my thoughts.

"Oh... I don't know, I don't think so." I grimaced. I didn't even know there was another dinner party tonight. Besides, I couldn't be down there when Talon's guests were still around.

Aside from Talon not wanting me down there, I didn't think I would be able to spend the night with the strongest of the werewolves in one room. I would probably suffocate from my own fear.

"Why not?" He asked, shifting his body closer to mine.

"Because she can't." This time Dawn came to my rescue. "She's going to be busy tonight, with so many chores and dishwashing."

That was a lie Dawn had crafted to throw suspicion off of me. Monty had been adamant in asking when I had joined the pack and why my face looked new and unfamiliar and Dawn had quickly told him I was among the new maids that had been employed by Willow and that was why he didn't know me. He had believed the lie and commented on how I was too beautiful to work as a maid.

"Well, that sucks. I'd have really loved for you to be there. Your presence would have made it tolerable for me." He smirked, making my cheeks grow hot.

I didn't know what was wrong with me. These were just compliments, I didn't know why I had a such reaction to them. "Oh well, I-" "Avalyn?!"

I was suddenly cut off by a voice I recognized as Greg's. I turned around and my eyes widened at the sight before me. Greg and Talon stood with a man I didn't know, but judging from his similar facial features to Monty's, I guessed it was Alpha Tristan, his father. I watched as Greg's eyes squinted at Dawn who was still busy with Jet that she hadn't noticed the arrival of the Alphas and her elder brother. I quickly got up from the ground and bowed in greeting at the three men, avoiding Talon's eyes that were staring directly at

me.

God. I was in so much trouble.

"Ahh, Father..." Monty drawled slowly as he got up from the ground too, drawing Dawn's attention to the three men before us. "Allow me to introduce you to this beautiful lady, Avalyn." He gestured towards me.

Alpha Tristan's eyes went from me to Monty, lingering a little longer on me than I was comfortable with. "She's quite the beauty. May I ask who this lovely lady is?" He asked turning to Talon.

"It doesn't matter who she is," Talon said emotionlessly as he looked toward me. I could feel my breath hitch.

"She's a maid, Father. Employed for her services here at the capital. Such beauty shouldn't be wasted," Monty said, coming closer to me. He ran his fingers down my arm and I could swear I heard Talon let out a low threatening growl. "Well, I'm sure she has chores to attend to. Don't you Avalyn?" Greg said with a forced smile, signaling me to get the hell out of there.

"Uhm... y-yes... excuse me." I bowed and turned to leave, Dawn following behind me. But then, Monty reached out and grabbed my hand. I couldn't help but look at Talon, his hands clenched into fists at his sides.

"Before she leaves, however, I do insist that this young miss join us for dinner tonight. It would be a shame for such a beauty to be left all alone without company." Monty added.

"It would be her pleasure," Greg replied with a small nod, gesturing quickly for Dawn and me to leave. I could tell he had noticed the tension in Talon's shoulders.

As Dawn and I hurried out of there, I could feel two sets of eyes on me. One pair from Monty who I was sure hadn't set his eyes off of me, and the other, more intense glare, from Talon.
