The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 30

Avalyn's

POV

"He wants her to what?!" Dawn asked in disbelief, her widened eyes staring at Greg like he'd grown a second head.

"Talon wants her to be present at the dinner tonight. Alpha Tristan insisted." Greg replied, clearly irritated at his sister's loud outburst.

I had honestly thought I'd be in trouble after this morning, what I definitely wasn't expecting was Greg to walk into my room and inform me that I'd be attending the dinner with the rest of them. I was supposed to lay low until the guests left, and not bring attention to myself. Attending the dinner was only going to arouse questions from people.

"Uhm... I guess I have to go then." I whispered unsure. "I mean, it can't be all that bad, right?"

"Yeah you're right. They don't have to know you're here because you're Alpha Talon's breeder. We could just stick with the maid story," Dawn suggested, face brightening up.

"Wouldn't it be weird for a common maid to be attending a dinner part for the Alpha's guests though?" I asked.

"Not if her presence was required by the Alpha of Moonstone and his hot son," Dawn said smirking

I saw Greg give her a disgusted look and I couldn't help the small chuckle that left me.

"I'll leave you guys to get ready," Greg said before walking off.

I wasn't sure what to expect from dinner. The idea of being in a room full of people I didn't know made me extremely uncomfortable. To make matters worse, these weren't just people... They were werewolves.

I was pretty much going to be the only human in that room tonight. I would rather have spent the night peacefully in my room, however, it wasn't up to me to decide.

"Cheer up Avalyn." Dawn strolled to me, patting my shoulders in a comforting manner. "We'll have fun. I'll be there the entire time, even Lydia and Greg will be there. Nothing will go wrong." "I know that." I sighed. "I'm just kind of nervous."

"Don't you want to see Monty? You guys seemed to hit it off this morning." Dawn smirked as she raised her brows suggestively.

Was she for real? I was a breeder in case she'd seem to forget. Talon bought me to birth a child, it didn't matter if I 'hit it off' with some Alpha's son.

I rolled my eyes playfully at her antics, proceeding to ignore her perverted comments about Monty for the rest of the afternoon. At one point, Dawn had left the room, promising to return and help me get ready.

When Dawn had told me that she would come back and help me get ready, I imagined it would simply be putting my hair up and putting on a nice dress she found lying around somewhere. But I was wrong on so many levels.

When I opened my bedroom door, Dawn pushed in a rack of beautifully coloured dresses and a huge black leather zippered case. I had no idea what was going on, but the huge smile on her face clued me in that this was going to be something I would never forget. "Are you ready to have fun?" She asked with enthusiasm, causing my doubts to be immediately lifted.

'Being unsure about the situation is not going to help anyone, I told myself.

"Uhm... Dawn, why do we need so many dresses?" I asked as I let my fingers run across the various fabrics hanging upon the rack. The beautiful arrays of colours and beading were much more beautiful than anything I had ever seen from my stepmother's jewellery box, and I found myself captivated by them.

"Well, because I didn't know what you'd prefer to wear. So we're going to have a look, and then you can try on whichever you want to wear but first, hair and makeup."

My eyes grew wide as I looked at her. I had made sure to bath for a second time before she had gotten here, as she'd requested before she left, but I didn't think she was going to go the length she was for a dinner party. I didn't expect she was going to give me the 'works,' as my stepmother used to call it.

"Don't you think this is a little too much for me? I mean... I'm no one important, I don't even know why I'm going." Hesitation settled deep within my guts, perhaps this was a mistake. Maybe I should pretend to be sick?

"Avalyn -this was an order from the Alpha. You're not a no body, and you've got to let me turn you into the goddess that you are." Dawn gave me a reassuring smile as she patted the vanity seat in front of her.

"Thank you..."I replied, giving her a small smile in return.

An hour later, I could barely recognize the woman looking back at me in the mirror. My black hair cascaded onto my shoulders in beautiful waves, framing my face perfectly. A smokey eye highlighted the corner of my eyes, and the deep burgundy colored lipstick she gave me made my lips seem fuller and bold upon my face. I was in shock over the way I looked.

I was beautiful.

"So..." Dawn drawled smirking. "What do you think?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"I... I don't even..." They were no words, and as her smirk widened, I knew that was what she had hoped for -for me to be speechless.

"Good. Now go and look through the dresses and see which one you like."

Once I stood, she took my place, and I walked slowly to the rack and began looking at everything. I wasn't sure what exactly would be appropriate, but I figured that since she had brought all of these here, then any of them would be fine.

My hands settled upon a deep burgundy coloured one, and I felt captivated by the rhinestones and the black beading that covered the top of the strapless dress. It was so stunning.

'But isn't this a bit of a bold dress to wear for a dinner event?' I thought to myself. I sighed and put the dress down, then I started looking for something more plainly.

"Why did you drop it? That was the dress I was hoping you'd pick." Dawn's voice pulled me out of my trance and I turned back to look at her.

"There's no way I'm wearing this. It's beautiful, but I don't think I can pull a dress like this off."

"Avalyn, you don't have to hide who you are anymore, no one here is going to hurt you." Dawn sighed.

'Well, no one except Willow. I thought.

"And you even have the opportunity to come out of your shell a little. If you don't want to wear it, you don't have to. They're lots more to choose from. But I think that one-that one is perfect for you." Dawn was right. That dress was absolutely stunning.

With slight hesitation, I took the dress and walked into the bathroom to try it on. Standing in front of the mirror, I ran my hands over the delicate beading in shock. The dress fit me perfectly, and up the left side, a slit ran up to my mid-thigh. But it wasn't a scandalous-looking style. Instead, it was conservative, but in a sexy way.

What would Talon think about this dress?

Dawn's rapid knocking on the door snapped me out of my thoughts. "Come on Avalyn, let me see. You've been in there forever."

"I-I don't think I can wear this-" I stuttered before she quickly opened the door. Her eyes widened and I instantly regretted putting it on.

"Oh my goodness, Avalyn...."

"See I have to take it off, I can't wear it right?" My voice came out in an unsure tone, I suddenly felt embarrassed and self-conscious.

"No!" She yelled, startling me. A smile spread across her face. "You're not taking this dress off. You look so amazing, and I bet Monty's going to be so happy to see you in it." She smirked.

I rolled my eyes at her. "Are you sure this is appropriate?"

"Of course it is. I promise it is."

I took a deep inhale, trying to steady my breathing. It was then that I noticed that she had already finished getting herself ready, and wore a royal blue dress similar to my own. "You..." I started as I gestured to her outfit.

"Well.... I thought I would wear something similar to yours to make you feel comfortable. Just a different color."

I would never get over how amazing Dawn had been to me since I arrived here. She was always taking me into consideration with everything, she had become such an amazing friend to me.

"Thank you," I whispered softly and genuinely, trying not to cry.

"No, no, no crying... you're going to mess up my masterpiece." She chuckled, causing me to smile as well.

"What do I need to do at dinner?" I asked, still unsure of it all.

Dawn stared at me for a moment, then gave me a warm smile. "Just be pretty, and be you."

A knock at the door caught both our attention, I followed Dawn out the bathroom as she went to answer the door.

"Are you both ready?" Greg asked. His voice floated through the open door.

"Come in and see for yourself," Dawn said as she stepped aside, letting him in.

When Greg walked around the corner, I saw his eyes light up. He looked dashing in his black suit and blue tie that matched Dawn's dress. Greg was quiet for a moment, which made me slightly uncomfortable, wondering if there was something wrong. "Feedback, Greg." Dawn was obviously looking for praise.

"Well done, Dawn," Greg said, quickly composing himself as he looked at the both of us. "And Avalyn, wow, you look amazing."

"Thank you, Greg. I just hope it's not too much." I replied, still feeling sceptical about my choice of attire.

"You look fine. Oh and we can even get Cassie's opinion when we get there. I bet your mate will love it, right Greg?" Dawn chirped happily, already walking down the hall.

"I'm sure she will. You look perfect for the occasion, Avalyn," he said, giving me a reassuring smile that matched his sister's. "It's time."
