The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 32

Avalyn's

POV

"That sucks. I really want to spend more time with you, Avalyn." Monty sighed. "You know what? If you happen to pass by my pack sometime, I would love to have you stay with us. Show you around my home, and take you to see some of the wonders we own." I couldn't help but feel like there was a hidden message in his words, and that did nothing to make me feel any comfortable about what was going on. Even Talon's aura seemed to change a bit, and the tension grew thick in the room. "Hmm... that would be lovely -thank you," I whispered, avoiding Willow's eyes.

"You know, Talon. You've just made me realize that having a companion is such a wonderful thing. Nothing beats having a Luna to take care of all the womanly affairs of the palace. Goddess knows I've been trying to get my son to see things that way." Tristan laughed out, pointing to Monty who just smirked.

Talon said nothing in response, he let out a small hum and resumed his dinner.

"And what about you, Avalyn? I take it you have no mate, are you looking for one?" Monty asked as he turned to me, running his thumb across my lips to remove a stain, and then proceeded to shove said thumb into his mouth as he licked it. My heart skipped a beat as I held my breath.

The tension in the room grew tenfold and I could have sworn I felt goosebumps crawl up every inch of my body. I dared not look at Talon as I felt his burning hot glare from the other side of the table. Even Dawn who was sitting beside me tensed up at Monty's action. I knew I was in big trouble when dinner was over, I had let him touch me. Somehow it would be my fault.

"Come on, Avalyn. Don't tell me you want to be like those mate-less omegas that roam about packs being useless, that would definitely not be a good look on you." Monty added when my silence stretched on for too long.

What the hell was this dude's problem? I wasn't even a freaking werewolf.

Shock filled me once again, and as I looked up at Monty, I found myself speechless. There was a dark look of lust in his eyes, and I wasn't comfortable with the way he was gazing at me.

I didn't know how to respond and unconsciously glanced at Talon and Willow for help or something. Everyone at this table -besides Tristan, his son, and his pack members- knew I wasn't a werewolf. I was an ordinary human girl who was sold into their world. Saying the wrong thing simply brings more suspicion to me.

"She isn't looking for a mate." Talon came to my rescue, the way his voice was filled with rage made my head spin, and the atmosphere in the room started suffocating me.

I could tell that was the exact reaction from Talon, Monty had been hoping for.

The smirk grew on his face as he said, "I don't mean to quarrel, Alpha, but I would like to hear what the lady has to say. Plus, you've kept her away from us in her room the entire time we've been here. I am intrigued to know more about her. The girl doesn't seem to mind." He picked up his wine glass and proceeded to take small sips from it.

When all eyes fell on me again, I turned to Talon. He had a hesitant look in his eye. But with a small nod, he permitted me to respond -not that I even wanted to.

I thought of all the lessons I'd had in class about werewolves. About how they found their one true mate and maintained a strong bond that was unlike us humans and marriages. I thought about Willow and Talon, they seemed to be in love.

"I- well... one day I do hope to meet my... uhm... my mate, and have the life I'd always dreamed of -with a man who loves me... and will protect me." I slowly took up my glass and took long gulps from my drink.

Damn etiquettes. I had to delay this for as long as possible.

"Hmm." Monty stroked his chin, "Why not now? You're really beautiful, why not get settled down now?"

"Uhm... I have other priorities for now." I gave a fake smile. I hadn't thought I would have the courage to say what I just did, but it felt great to let it out.

However, I felt the cold atmosphere descend upon the room again, knowing where exactly it was coming from, I didn't dare to look at Talon this time.

"That is wonderful!" Tristan exclaimed. "But you do know that in our society today, women often do not worry about destined mates, as it is a thing of the past. When they are offered a proposal, women just take it. It becomes their social standing after all. Tell me, what is your station in society?" What the hell was I supposed to say to that?

The man was asking too many questions I didn't want to answer -questions I didn't even know the answer to- and I was more than uncomfortable. God, I wish I could return to my room already.

"Father, it isn't polite to ask an omega that kind of question," Monty replied to me as he sipped his drink.

I couldn't argue back. What was I supposed to say? Should I tell them that no, I wasn't a werewolf? That my selfish father sold me, a human girl, into werewolf territory to become the Lycan king's breeder? That was way worse. Anyone would assume I was a lower- class werewolf, I told them I was a maid for god's sake. Why not just stick to the role of an omega werewolf maid?

"Avalyn is no omega!" Suddenly, Dawn said through gritted teeth. It was clear she was pissed at Monty for referring to me as an omega. "She is the daughter of an Alpha and she deserves respect."

I was shocked at Dawn's words, even Talon looked at her with disapproval in his eyes. But Dawn showed no sign of regret and simply shrugged her shoulders.

"Is that so? An Alpha's daughter working as the King's maid? That's not something you see every day." Monty drawled a glint of amusement in his eyes.

My eyes widened at his remark, I had a feeling he was catching unto our lies. Before I knew what was happening, my fork clanged against my plate, causing all eyes to turn to me. I coughed, having swallowed my food too quickly, and gave Dawn a look before looking down at my plate. My face was flushed red with embarrassment.

Greg gave his sister a stern look, while Dawn seemed sorry that her interjection hadn't helped me, but actually seemed to put me in a much worse spot.

"Dear goddess! I love this song." Lydia's voice interjected loudly. "Avalyn dear, would you join me on the dance floor for a moment?" She quickly stood up and adjusted her glasses as she gave me a slight nod. "If you'll excuse us Alpha."

Talon nodded and gestured for me to leave. I couldn't be any happier. I quickly stood up and stepped away from the table, bowing my head in respect as I hurried along with Lydia. That was a great save.

I felt a pair of eyes at my back, but I honestly couldn't care whom they belonged to, I just had to leave the vicinity.

"You have no idea how-"

"Shhh! They can probably still hear you." Lydia shushed me as she pulled me toward the middle of the crowded room. "Now you can speak."

"I was so uncomfortable." I released a breath of relief.

"Yeah, I know. You reeked of distress, I just had to get you away from creep pervert there and his Father." Lydia huffed, rolling her eyes.

I laughed at the insult she threw at Monty. She was right, he was a creep. I had actually thought he was a decent guy this morning at the garden. The looks he gave me at the table, and the touching, it was all weird and made me very uncomfortable. "I honestly just want to go upstairs and sleep. I feel so tired." I sighed softly.

I didn't want to spend another minute in the room with Tristan's pack. I didn't want to give Monty any more opportunities to question me.

Lydia looked at me with concern and nodded. "Sure. Let's get you upstairs."

I glanced back at the table where Talon and the rest were. "I hope he won't mind if I leave without asking him first," I stated my concern out loud.

"It's fine Avalyn. They know you're with me, and I'm sure they know you're tired from Monty's constant bickering."

I smiled as she led us both up the stairs, guiding me along the way. I couldn't help sudden nausea that overcame me, I felt really dizzy. All I needed was to go to bed and I'd be fine.

I couldn't wait to pass out on my bed and forget all about this shitty dinner.
