The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 44

Talon's POV Compulsion.

That was what I had felt as I watched Avalyn from across the room. The strong urge to be around her presence had overcome me and no matter how much I tried to resist it, I just couldn't. She looked so beautiful, and the knowledge that she was carrying my heir made her look even more appealing to me.

It hadn't taken much convincing on my part to walk across the room over to the girl. I ignored Willow's eyes as I left the table and walked over to Avalyn, it was only then that I felt my inner wolf finally relax in satisfaction.

After a few minutes of us conversing, I noticed the sudden spike in her heartbeat and the color draining from her face. I asked her what was wrong and she said she needed to rest.

"Can we walk around for a little while?" Avalyn's voice brought me out of my thoughts.

I had a feeling the question had tumbled out of her mouth unannounced, it had been impulsive. I watched as she cursed myself out, probably on how forward she might have sounded. I looked down at her unsure. She needed to rest, she had complained of being tired and needing rest just seconds ago.

"Are you sure?" I asked patiently, which was not something I was known for. This girl was doing things to me.

She nodded her head slowly.

"Where exactly do you want to walk around to?" I asked. I would do anything to make her comfortable. She was carrying my child after all.

Her eyes widen a little bit at my question. "Uhm... maybe the garden -the one with the fountain." She whispered, averting her gaze, so as not to look me in the eye.

"Let's go then." I sighed.

I could still feel some form of hesitation from her whenever she was around me. She still didn't feel comfortable enough. I didn't blame her though, my presence and aura held nothing similar to comfort.

As requested, we made our way down to the garden. I had to admit, even though I didn't come here often, it was a really beautiful place. Red and pink flowers adorned the grassy areas. Under the pale moonlight, the water fountain glistened and sparkled. I could see why Avalyn chose this particular garden, it was magical.

Beside me, she took in a long breath and closed her eyes in contentment, she looked so at ease.

"Thank you." She whispered, her eyes still closed.

"What for?" I asked.

Only then did she open her eyes to look at me, a small smile gracing her face. "I don't know, everything?" She chuckled. "It's weird... but I feel like I have to say thank you for bringing me here."

I stared at her, impassive as ever. I really didn't think there was anything she had to thank me for, but I nodded my head anyway. I led her to one of the benches that stood at the corner of the garden and we both took our seats, watching fireflies fly around us. I found the sounds of chirping crickets oddly comforting. But deep down I had a feeling it was just Avalyn's presence.

We sat in silence for a while, neither of us saying anything until I decided to break the silence.

"I'm sorry," I said vaguely. The words had been much easier to speak out than I had anticipated. I never apologized for anything, nor did I easily feel sorry for my actions. But after that night I had defiled Avalyn, I felt this pang in my chest that just didn't seem to want to leave.

She looked at me, confusion painting her feature. "W-Why?" She stuttered.

"For everything," I said, responding with her own words. The sad smile that appeared on her face confirmed to me that she understood exactly what I was apologizing for. "It's fine." She whispered bitterly. "It was a duty I was bought to fulfill."

Those words coming from her didn't sit right with me, but I knew she was right. No matter how much I tried to dismiss it, Avalyn was here for one thing alone, to bear my heir.

"What was human school like?" I asked, changing the topic of conversation. Genuinely, I was curious about what they were taught at school, I had sent my own sister there after all.

"Absolute shit," she said and immediately blushed, probably realizing how blunt she must have sounded and how much like Emily it came out.

I couldn't help the small chuckle that left me at her reaction. "It was that bad?" I joked.

"It was horrible. I hated every second of it." She sighed. I'd noticed that she was getting more and more vocal as time went by, maybe she was getting more comfortable with me. "What about your father?" I asked staring at her.

Avalyn immediately tensed beside me and averted her gaze. I knew it was a sensitive topic, but I just had to satisfy my curiosity. I had always wondered what the relationship between her and her father had been like for him to sell his only daughter away. "Uhm... he didn't like me." She whispered sadly. "He'd always blamed me... for my mother's death."

I didn't say anything in response. I watched her in silence, giving her time.

She released a small sigh before she continued speaking. "He was always horrible to me. It got so much worse when he married my stepmother. She was a whole lot."

"What happened to your mother?" I asked calmly.

"I don't know... he told me she died due to complications from childbirth."

Well, that was something we had in common since my own mother had died giving birth too. I felt like I had to avenge Avalyn, the strong urge to hurt everybody that had done her wrong came upon me and I felt my wolf growl in anger. "Would it make you happy if I brought you his head?"

She looked at me with shock, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "N-No... no don't." She stuttered urgently.

I couldn't help but feel confused. She claimed this man had wronged her, but didn't want him dead? Humans were pathetic.

"He's still my father." She whispered softly. "And I know how wrong it sounds, but I still care about him. He wasn't always like this."

Trying to understand humans was the last thing I thought I would do but here I was in my garden trying to understand why Avalyn didn't want her bastard of a father dead even after he sold her... it was crazy!

As we spent more time seated there, watching insects and basking in the glow of the moonlight, I felt Avalyn relax and let her guard down even more, she'd laughed a lot too. The sound of it made me fall even deeper for her.

It had been a little after midnight when we left the garden and headed straight to her room. I made sure to watch her get in and lock the door behind her before I turned around to leave. I didn't know when it started, but I'd noticed myself becoming protective towards her, maybe it was because she had my child growing in her or something more...

I took in a long breath as I walked into my chamber, Willow was already there, seated on the bed with a book in her hand.

"You're spending too much time with the human girl, Talon." She sneered immediately after I stepped into the room, not even giving me time to settle down.

I could already feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise up in pure irritation. "She's pregnant, Willow. She needed a stroll and I took her out for one." I growled threateningly, my glare daring her to speak out of line.

She released a loud scoff, squinting her eyes to throw a judgemental look my way. "She's not handicapped, she can take a f*****g stroll by herself," Willow yelled as she flung her book to the side, knocking off the small flower vase on the bedside table. "What the hell is your problem?" I snapped. I didn't understand what the fuck she was getting so upset about. "If you have something to say, spit it out."

"Fine." She replied, her voice oddly calm even though I could see anger in her eyes. "I don't want you spending time with her. After all, she's here for a job and nothing more, you said those exact words yourself. She's a breeder, Talon. Nothing more. If she wants to f*****g stroll around, she has Dawn to do that with her!"

I stared at her quietly, only speaking when I was sure my anger had subsided enough.

"You do not speak to me in that manner ever again. I may be your mate, Willow, but I am still your King." I warned, watching her eyes widen in shock. I had never spoken to her in such a tone before, I knew I had crossed a line but I was too angry to think straight. I didn't wait to hear her response, I stormed out of the room, slamming the door shut behind me.

I needed a drink.
