The Lycan Series
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 47

Avalyn's

POV

I woke up in... My bedroom?

Not the room I'd spent the last months staying in at Southern Ridge, but my own actual childhood bedroom. Confused was an understatement for how I was feeling right now.

Darting my eyes around, I tried to remember what had happened to me after I had slammed my head against the ground but I couldn't recall. Did someone find me passed out on the floor? What the hell was going on?

I turned my head to the side, which resulted in my entire brain throbbing, the pain so severe it made my jaws and teeth ache. I squinted my eyes and groaned softly, before witnessing a bundle of bright colors. I blinked once more. Flowers.

Someone had left flowers on my bedside table.

Trying to reach out towards the little card dangling from the bouquet allowed me to figure out that my in-depth perception was horrendously off. Not only was my vision blurry and the white walls, floor, and sheets hurt my eyes, but my arm swayed left to right while I tried to keep it steady. I clenched and unclenched my fingers repeatedly, trying to grab the paper, but only managing to touch air.

It was horribly frustrating.

"They're from me."

I froze, tears immediately welling up in my eyes as I recognized the voice. I glanced at the door across the bed, the blurry image of my father greeting me.

"Dad..." I whispered, reaching out my hand to him. How was this even possible? How had I even gotten back here? He was surely going to kill me now.

My father stepped forward and stretched out his hands toward me. His pale features came into focus as he leaned in, blue eyes and blond hair reminding me of Willow almost immediately, and it caused me to grow rigid at his touch.

"It's okay." He whispered, his smile appearing as he came even closer. It had been so long since I saw my father smile. He was embracing me, something he had never done before. I'd known only pain and torment from this man... so why was he comfortably hugging me like he was afraid I'd vanish into thin air.

I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to blink away the tears. "W-what happened to me? H-how did I get here... it's not possible..." I stammered, totally confused about whatever was going on. "Where's Dawn? And Emily... and... And my baby?" I asked, wide-eyed as my hands protectively went to my stomach manner. I felt weird, I didn't feel sick and nauseous like I'd normally felt from being pregnant.

He glanced away and grimaced lightly. "You don't remember?"

Going to shake my head, I winced at the pain in my skull and instead opted to murmur a quiet 'no'.

"You were in a car accident," he admitted, clasping my hand into both of his and squeezing tightly. I stared at him in shock. I could feel it in the damp air around the room that he was yet to tell the whole story. "With your mother and I." He added. I stared at him in shock. "My mother?" I whispered but paused when he nodded his head.

"I'm sorry, Avalyn. I should have paid more attention to the road." He sighed, "Your mother is fine, she's in the kitchen now... Look, I blame myself for everything, I should have been more careful-"

"What're you talking about?" I whispered in confusion. My mother was supposed to be dead, he'd told me that, and he'd blamed me for her death all my life. "Where's Dawn?" I asked again.

"Honey, I don't know whom you're talking about. I think you hit your head pretty badly. Maybe we should call Doctor Fre-"

I zoned him off. My brain completely shut down at the words spilling from my father's mouth. Was this another dream? It had to be.

This had to be some messed up fantasy in my mind that conjured up something to deceive me into believing I had a loving Father who cared about my well-being and a very much alive Mother. This man had sold me out to... werewolves? It sounded really ridiculous right now, but it was the truth.

Or had all that experience been a sick dream too? Maybe this was reality. Maybe I had a loving Father and Mother who cared about me. Maybe I had a happy family... But of course, I knew that wasn't the case.

"Where's mum?" I asked softly, cutting my father off mid-sentence. Even though I knew deep down that this was all a dream, that it wasn't real, a small part of me couldn't help but want to be here. A part of me longed for a happy family, one where my father cared for me... like this one.

"In the kitchen, making breakfast... You want to come down and say good morning to her?" He said smiling at me as he stood up and waited for me to join him.

I tried to step down from my bed but I found that it was difficult. My body felt like it was constrained to the bed, it felt like a pair of hands were pushing me down and no matter how hard I tried, the pressure didn't die down. Immense pain filled my head as I tried to blink away tears, I looked around frantically but I could no longer see my father. It was like he had disappeared into thin air. I didn't understand what was going on.

Panic filled me as my room slowly began to change. The sky blue wallpaper that covered my bedroom walls immediately shredded away to reveal a plain white wall underneath, I looked up and noticed that instead of the brown ceiling fan blowing air into my room, there was now a plain white ceiling. It seemed oddly familiar.

I clamped my eyes shut, hoping I'd return back to my childhood bedroom, with my father waiting patiently for me with a smile on his face. But when I opened them, I was still met with the plain white walls and ceiling. I figured I was in a clinic of some sort due to the intense smell of antiseptic in the room.

"Hey, Lydia. I think she's finally awake." I heard someone say from across the room, but I couldn't make out the voice. It sounded like Dawn's, but I wasn't sure.

I heard footsteps shuffling towards me and all of a sudden, Lydia was in my line of sight.

"Good evening, sweetie. Welcome back." Lydia greeted me with a warm smile.

I eyed her confusedly. Evening? I didn't understand. "W-what? Evening?" I asked, not at all comprehending what she meant by 'good evening'.

"Yes, Avalyn." Lydia sighed. "You've been asleep for quite a while," she said, tinkering with the glasses on her face.

"Wow." I cracked out.

"How're you feeling, dear?" She asked softly.

"My head hurts." I groaned, lifting my hand to touch my head only to notice that it had been wrapped with a bandage. "What happened?"

"You fell down a flight of stairs and passed out," Dawn said, coming into my line of sight, she looked really stressed and sleep deprived. "A guard found you unconscious on the floor. You were bleeding pretty badly."

It took a few seconds for her words to sink in. I had remembered stepping out of my room because I couldn't sleep, I wanted to go for a walk. And then... I had been pushed by someone. Or had I imagined that too? I seemed to be doing a lot of that lately.

I had been so focused on what Dawn had said that I hadn't realized that tears were pouring from my eyes. Lydia rushed over to hug me, rocking my body slowly.

"H-how's the... how's the baby?" I asked, already expecting bad news, but Dawn and Lydia both gave me soft smiles.

"It's doing fine. It's all thanks to the moon goddess that we didn't lose it." Lydia sighed.

A huge wave of relief washed over me at the news. My baby was fine and that was all that mattered. "I'm sorry for making you all worried..." I sniffed. "I couldn't sleep, I just wanted to go for a walk... I...I don't know what happened." I stammered out, overcome with so much emotion, I felt like I could burst.

"It's all right, Avalyn." Dawn sighed. "Just rest."

I knew something wasn't right. Talon wasn't here, neither was Greg. I was pregnant with his child and had a little accident, I found it strange that he wasn't here right now. I found it even stranger that Dawn wasn't her chirpy self, I felt like something must have happened while I was unconscious.

"Where's Emily?" I asked instead, deciding I wasn't ready to know about whatever had happened yet.

"She's in the training room right now," Dawn replied. "When you're strong enough, we could go see her?"

I nodded with a smile. "I'd really like that."
