The Lycan Series -
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 23
Violet's
POV
My heart made a major flip as everyone's eyes turned to Savannah.
"Do you need a special microphone before you speak?" Axel growled from his throne.
She took a step forward and gave an awkward smile. "I am sorry my King-" she began to say but Axel's impatient voice stopped him.
"Who killed Hera?" He roared, his voice vibrating through the walls of the room like an earthquake.
Savannah turned to stare at me and my heart fell to my stomach. I knew what she was going to say even before she said it.
"Violet did it!"
"What?" Hilda hissed before I could even react. "That makes no sense! The result from the autopsy says she died two hours before Violet found her... How can she be responsible for her death?"
"Does it matter? She could have done it earlier!" Savannah fired.
I was suddenly unable to speak as my throat became dry and all I could do was stare at Savannah with wide eyes. Why was she pinning this on me?
I didn't kill Hera. Heck, I didn't kill anybody!
"My king, that's absurd!" Hilda said to Axel. "If we are to point fingers here then it should be on her. Savannah was the one who requested for Violet to check on Hera and she was right behind her when she got to Hera's room when she should have been in her room!"
Savannah let out a scoff and crossed her arms defiantly across her chest. "That's nonsense. I said no such thing!"
"Have some shame Savannah. We were all there!" Hilda yelled and then she turned to Thalia. "You were there, you remember what she said, didn't you?"
But Thalia lowered her head and said nothing.
At this point, I could only stare at Axel. He was the only one who could stop this.
"Why are you even supporting her!" Savannah hissed.
"Thalia..." It was the man that had stopped Axel from hurting me that spoke up this time. "It will be right for you to speak now... In my opinion, the suspect here is very clear!"
I expected him to look at me but his stern eyes were on Savannah, who seemed surprised at the change of event.
"I didn't do it! Fuck, why will I even dare soil my hands with her blood when she didn't stand a chance?" She snapped wildly.
"That's even more reason for you to be considered a suspect!" Hilda retorted.
"My King," the man spoke again, turning his attention to Axel. "The last report we had on their bodies will probably shed some light..." He said and walked toward Axel.
When he got closer, he leaned into him and whispered something to him. Axel's eyes immediately flashed to Savannah before moving back to me.
"Do not believe anything Greg says! He has never liked me to begin with!" Savannah yelled.
She was starting to get desperate and it was working against her favor in that instant.
"Savannah!" Axel yelled and the intensity in his voice made my bones freeze. I was certain Savannah had it even stronger.
I could see the fear begin in her eyes and spread down the rest of her body. Tears spilled out of her eyes and her hands started vibrating.
"I didn't kill Hera! If that's what they are trying to point at you. Violet did it!"
"Savannah, shut up already! I brought Violet into the mansion, how could she have done it two hours earlier, if at all she did?!" Hilda gritted through her teeth.
Savannah's eyes turned dark with anger as she turned to Hilda. "The last time she went over to see her parents she was also under your care but she slipped and did whatever she wanted! Why can't you see that she did this too?"
At this point, I couldn't just keep quiet and watch Savannah frame me up like this. "I didn't do it. I didn't kill anyone! Why are you lying?"
She turned her rage filled eyes to me and started coming at me but Hilda stopped her with one hand.
"Aargh! She is a killer!" She yelled, fighting off Hilda's hands but she held her in place. "She is human and she will do anything to cause another revolution! Why can't you all see that?!"
What? I thought in my head. As much as I wanted my parents to be free and maybe an easier life for my people, I had never thought of another revolution. I knew firsthand what had happened in the last one, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, humans or werewolves. "Have some decency Savannah!" The man beside Axel growled and silence fell into the throne room.
Now it was all in Axel's hands to decide. He cleared his throat and my heart resumed racing.
But before he could speak, the woman by the corner of the throne raised her hand
"If I may, my King," she said, coming forward with her head lowered dramatically.
She had a veil over her face, so no one could see what she looked like and she wore a very long dark dress that covered every part of her body.
I hadn't even noticed that she was in the room until she stepped out of the shadows.
"You are under probation here! You have no right to speak in this room!" The man beside Axel growled again.
But the woman bent even further and continued speaking. "I know that very much, beta Greg. That's why, I seek permission... Perhaps my old brain can proffer a solution to this problem," she said in a voice so smooth, it eased the tension in the room significantly. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Axel tap the man -beta Greg, by the arm and then he waved his hand at the woman, bowing in front of him.
"Go on Widow, what do you have to say?" He asked her.
She straightened to her first position and then held her chest with one hand. "During my days... When there is a problem like this, there is a ceremony we used to do... Allow me to perform this ceremony and at the end of the day, it will point us to the killer." My eyes narrowed at once at her words. Surely Axel wasn't going to believe her or listen to her. It was absurd! Besides, there was no way her ceremony would point at any of the wolves, I and Sam would most likely be framed here. "Fine!" Axel said and my heart shattered.
"You can't be serious!" I blurted out before I could stop myself.
I felt Hilda's arm strongly hold me back and I bit down on my tongue.
Axel's eyes darkened and he got off his chair and approached me. "Take her to a cell and keep her there till the widow is ready for this ceremony of hers!"
"Wha-" I was about to yell but Hilda was fast to apply pressure on my arm.
"Keep it in... Violet, don't get yourself killed before your time!" She whispered as Axel and Beta Greg walked out of the room.
"Protecting a human who is an enemy to the throne isn't a very smart move Hilda," Savannah hissed as she walked out of the room, shortly followed by Thalia.
Hilda fisted her hands but she said nothing. She waited till they all left before turning to me.
"I am not protecting you because you are human. I am only doing this because I stand for the truth but if I find out in any way that you are involved in this... I will kill you myself!" She gritted.
"I promise you, Hilda. I did no such thing. I barely know Hera. Why would I kill her?" I cried out.
She let out a sigh and held my shoulder. "I will take you to your cell now. If you are truly innocent. The goddess will protect you."
"Violet couldn't have done it," Sam spoke up for the first time.
He moved closer to where we stood and turned to Hilda. "She might speak out of turn sometimes but I can assure you that she did not do it."
Hilda looked deeply at him and then at me before nodding. "Let's go to the cell."
She led us out of the throne room and I was thinking she would take me to the dungeons but she moved to the upper floors and stopped in front of a door.
I looked at Sam in surprise as Hilda pulled out a set of keys and unlocked the doors.
As we stepped in, I figured this was their idea of a comfortable cell. It was a mini room with a bed in the corner, just like every room in the mansion, the only difference was, this didn't have cooler or beautiful colors of curtains and bedsheets. "Sam and I will gather as much proof as we can. Stay here. Till the king sends for you," she said before turning to leave at once.
Sam looked like he wanted to say something but he shook his head and walked out as well.
As they left, I was just turning to go sit on the bed and think about my life when a knock resonated on the door.
Since Hilda and Sam had just left, I figured, they must have forgotten to tell me something but when the door opened, it wasn't either of them.
It was the woman with the veil.
