Caliana's POV

"Again?"

Before I could answer, Dean did.

"Oh yes, she and I jog in the same place and we've met a few times,"

"Oh, and my Mate didn't tell me about it," Edward gritted, emphasizing the word mate. Dean was surprised that he admitted to everyone present that we were mates. 'I'm sorry, I didn't want you to get-'

I tried to mind link Edward privately but he cut me, 'Later, and I don't want you near him,' He growled. My Alpha was sore but didn't show it in front of his rival.

There were two women on either side of Alpha Dean, the other looked younger, and was peering at me with peculiar interest, her jade eyes assessed me and then dwelling on Edward's hand that circled my waist possessively while the older woman glared at my mate, Edward smirked at her and she swallowed, her hands were clenched.

"Hello, Alpha Edward," The older woman greeted. She looked fit in her late fifties with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Deborah, I hope all is well," She looked around our group and frowned.

"You didn't bring my little, Love,"

"She's young to attend such events and I don't want her anywhere close to the likes of you after that little fiasco you pulled last time," Edward said, satisfied.

"She's my grandbaby, you can't do this to us!"

"And I'm her father and legal guardian. The only family she knows is this one here and I intend on keeping it that way," Edward was solemn.

"We are her family too!" Deborah shouted, approaching us but Dean retained her. She took a calming breath.

"Let's leave the family squabbles aside, and enjoy the evening, shall we?" Dean intervened.

"Of course,"

Alpha Dean guided us inside the ballroom, it was grand and well-decorated, and everyone wore their best outfits and jewelry. Most Alphas bowed to us. In no time, Edward was in a conversation with Alpha Tyrone and two other gentlemen. Jamal and Ansley were dancing. I couldn't see Marcus anywhere but Marcos and Garret were surrounded by over a dozen ladies like bees on honey. How did they manage to get a crowd wherever they went? I had just taken a drink when Luna Carol and Hope cornered me, they bowed before kissing my cheek happily and I squinted my eyes at them in confusion, why did they always bow when we are all Lunas?

'Our mate is the most powerful Lycan in this region so we are of a higher power and our aura suppresses theirs,' Liana explained, proudly.

"I love, love your dress, Luna Caliana," Luna Hope said.

"Yes, you look sexy, I'm stunned your Alpha let you out of the room dressed like that," Said Luna Carol.

"Oh it was a hassle I tell you but I'm as stubborn as they come," I giggled.

"So what was happening outside, we heard yelling, was it Madam Deborah?" Asked Luna Hope, I knew they would ask this. My eyes skimmed through the room until I saw Alpha Dean's mother. Our eyes met and she glared at me. I could tell she already hated me even though she doesn't know me.

"Of course, it was her, who else would make such a scene in the presence of Alpha Edward?!" Luna Kelly joined us, she wore a plain black sleeveless dress, and she looked simple but elegant. One could tell by her walk that she has been drinking for quite some time now. Like the other ladies, she bowed and kissed my cheek.

"Luna Caliana, obsessed with that dress, and Carol, oh my, your necklace is cute, and Hope, are those the newest Liberto heels, they are a limited edition you know," She said.

"Why was Deborah making a scene outside?"

"Same old, same old. Honestly, we are all getting tired of it," Luna Kelly sighed.

"I know right, and here I thought she'd be ashamed to even face the Chasia brothers after what she did," Mumbled Luna Carol, looking around. Whenever a discussion involved the Chasias, they were so secretive and cautious, so unlike them. They knew something. How did I ever not think to ask the queens of fashion and gossip? "Ladies, we are friends right?" I asked, looking at each one of them.

"Of course, you are on our level, our husbands are the richest and higher hierarchy in the region," Luna carol grinned, shaking her shoulders in a dance move. I almost rolled my eyes.

"Let's gossip a bit. I realized there is so much I don't know about who is who," I said. The ladies were so happy to tell me, their gazes were quick to scan the room and mention everyone their eyes landed on, they knew the dirties of secrets and private matters. "I feel so bad for Deborah, to lose a daughter in such a way," I sighed, eyeing each one of their reactions. They didn't feel anything for her and I wonder why. They just drank their fine champagne and ignored what I said,

"Ladies, you do sympathize with her, don't you?" I asked, Luna Kelly, groaned.

"Honestly, she's the reason Jane Anne died so, no," She said, no way, I thought.
