The Mafia’s Good Wife -
Chapter 75
- Violet -
"Uh, what the hell do you think you're doing?"
Celina stood there with mouth agape. She dropped the towels and first aid kit in her hand dramatically to the floor.
"N-nothing," Violet stuttered, pulling her hand out of the drawer as fast as she could.
"What's in that drawer?!" Celina demanded angrily, stomping over to her. She pushed Violet to the side and Violet staggered back, almost falling to the floor.
"Ew, what's this water!?" Celina grimaced as she stepped on the water pooling on the floor.
"Celina, my water... broke," Violet said pleadingly. She was in so much pain that she couldn't stand up straight. She was on her knees, her hand reaching for Celina's waist. "What the hell?!"
Celina freaked out when she saw the condition that Violet was in. She looked around, looking for help, but there wasn't anyone there but her. The two men that she brought in were told to guard the house. Violet's fate was in her hands. "...Please... help me..."
Violet's chained-up hands were clutching her stomach. Her eyes were scrunched shut. She was lying down on the ground. Her body was trembling and shaking, sweat dripping down her forehead.
"Ughhhh!" Violet groaned in pain. There was this pressure on her lower stomach that she couldn't shake off. She knew she needed to push.
Celina watched in panic and staggered back. She then grabbed the towels and went back to Violet's side.
"Shit, shit, fuck!"
Celina didn't know what she was doing. She was frantically putting towels all over Violet. Meanwhile, Violet was struggling to breathe. Everything around her felt like it was spinning. Her insides felt like it was about to explode. She experienced a whole lot of pain in this room before, but she never experienced anything like this. Not even remotely close.
Breathe, Violet. Breathe...!
"Aaahh!!" Violet let out a scream. Screaming was the only release she had to deal with the pain.
"Goddamn it!" Celina was scrambling, not sure of what to do. She took a peek under Violet's dress and her eyes widened in terror.
"Fuck!"
"What is it?" Violet begged.
"It's... a... a head!"
Violet let out another painful scream. She saw blood begin pooling underneath her. Celina was doing everything she could to contain it, but there was just so much blood. "Ahhhh!! Ahhhh!!!"
Violet could only scream and push. Scream and push. Again and again. The pain was so excruciating, Violet was certain she was gonna die. This was it. This was going to be the end of her. It was almost as if she could see herself lying on that floor, drowning in a pool of blood. And all the while, all she could think about was her baby.
God, please let my baby live. Please save my baby! "Aaaahhhh!!!"
Violet used all the remaining energy she had to push and push hard. She held on for as long as she could. Maybe those were minutes or hours, she couldn't tell. And all the while, that was the only thing she could say to herself. The last prayer she could get out before everything around her turned dark.
~ Damon -
Damon didn't feel good. He didn't feel good at all. Liam was speeding the car as fast as humanly possible, and Damon was sitting there anxiously with every second that passed.
"Fúck!" he cursed in anger, not knowing what else to do.
"Did you try calling the estate again?" Liam asked. He never took his eyes off the road, driving like a madman.
Damon checked his phone again. He'd been calling the emergency line at the estate for a hundred times already, but there was no response. He gripped the phone tightly in his hand, about to break it into pieces.
"There's no answer!" he hissed.
"Are you sure she's in there?"
Damon's jaw was clenched shut. He didn't have to answer Liam, his face said it all.
"How'd you know she's there?" Liam questioned. "It could've been a glitch,"
"No, it's not a glitch," Damon said sternly. "Star is her safe word,"
Liam shot Damon a look.
"Shit," he muttered.
Damon turned his face to the side as Liam drove the car harder. Liam made risky moves, passing by big trucks and other cars that were honking at them like crazy. At this rate, the state patrol will end up chasing after them too. But that didn't matter. Liam understood just how dire the situation was. With each minute that passes, Violet's safety is on the line.
Not knowing what's happening to Violet was brutal. Damon's mind went everywhere, thinking about all the worst case scenarios that could be. He knew Celina probably captured her somehow and brought her to the estate. That was a smart move. Something Damon wouldn't have expected.
But what's Celina planning to do to Violet there?!
Damon's hands were curled into fists as he tried his best to contain his frustration. His chest was aching every time he pictured Violet and the baby in her stomach. She must be frightened to death. And he wouldn't know what to do with himself if something happened to Violet or the baby.
"It's gonna be okay, Damon," Liam said as if he could read Damon's mind. "We'll get them. We'll get those fucking bastards!"
Sitting in that car, Damon was losing his mind. He couldn't do much but close his eyes and steady his breathing. Praying and preparing for the worst.
Dear God, please... please let her be okay. Please...
- Violet -
Violet felt like she had been through a war. It was like someone had beat her up with a baseball bat or something. Her whole body was aching in pain. It took every bit of energy left in her to even open her eyes.
"...Uh..."
When she could finally pry her eyes open, the first thing she saw was the pool of blood around her. And when she lifted her eyes higher, she could see Celina through her blurry eyes. Celina was holding onto something wrapped with a towel. Her face was full of shock, but she held onto that thing like it was the most precious thing in the world.
"Celina..." Violet called. "Is that...?"
Celina looked up and Violet saw tears in her eyes. Celina nodded her head to confirm Violet's question. Then she looked back down and kept her eyes on the prize.
That's him! That's my baby!
"Is he okay?" she asked.
"He's alright," Celina replied. Still not taking her eyes off the baby.
Violet let out a sigh of relief. It felt like a million pounds had been lifted off her shoulders. Despite all the pain, knowing that her baby was born healthy and safe, it was all worth it. "Can I see him, please?"
Violet tried her best to get up, but she was too weak. All she could do was prop her head up a little. Her hand was trembling as she reached out, desperate to touch that blood-stained towel.
Celina then got up and came over to her side. She kneeled down and brought the baby forward. The moment Violet saw this little baby, tears began streaming down her face. Baby Zach was so beautiful. He got all his fingers and toes. He also had smooth, dark brown hair, just like his mommy and daddy.
Baby Zach was squirming uncomfortably in that towel. He started crying, and Violet reached her hand out to touch his face. His skin was so soft. Violet caressed his cheek and Baby Zach suddenly stopped crying. It was like the baby knew his mother was near. His little hand then reached for Violet's fingers. He grabbed his mom's pinky with his hand and held it tight.
"Oh my God," Violet gasped in awe. "He's just so beautiful..."
Despite the situation that she was in, looking at her newborn baby for the first time was one of the most wonderful things Violet had ever experienced. She had been waiting a long time to see him. And now that he was here... looking up at her with those deep, dark brown eyes... Everything felt surreal.
Hi, baby Zach... Welcome to the world, my love...
Baby Zach had his eyes open wide. He was taking in the world and everything around him. It definitely wasn't ideal that this room was the first room he sees as he's entering the world, but Violet had so much love for him pouring out of her chest, she hoped that it was enough to make up for that. "Look at him," she breathed. "He has Damon's eyes..."
Celina looked closer. It was true. The baby had Damon's eyes. It looked so much like Damon. Like they were carbon copies of each other. Something in Celina's heart stirred when she noticed this. Actually, something in her heart already changed the moment she saw him coming into this world.
"He does," she muttered. "He's really... something,"
Celina watched silently as Violet kept caressing the baby's face. Meanwhile, the baby's hand kept holding onto Violet's pinky. It was honestly a beautiful bonding moment between a mom and her son. But Celina felt differently about this. She felt jealous. And she felt territorial.
Suddenly and without warning, Celina grabbed the baby's hand and forcefully yanked it away from Violet's pinky. The baby was shocked by this sudden act of force, it started crying again. "H-hey, what are you doing?!" Violet demanded angrily.
Celina didn't say anything at first. Instead, she got up to her feet, pulling the baby away from Violet.
"This baby needs someone that can take care of it, and you're not in that position," she said firmly.
"Well, if you just let me go-"
"That's never gonna happen," Celina shook her head, cutting her off.
"Celina, please. I'm begging you," Violet pleaded with everything in her. Her bloody hand reached for Celina's feet. "This baby is innocent. It doesn't deserve this-"
"You're right," Celina cut her off again. "It doesn't deserve to have a whore for a mother like you,"
Violet was too stunned to speak. What does she mean by this?
As if to answer that, Celina kicked Violet's hand off her feet and turned to her heels. She was heading to the door with baby Zach crying in her arms.
"Wait, stop! Where are you going?!"
Celina stopped her tracks and turned around. She let out a menacing smile as she stared Violet down.
"I'm going to do you a favor," she replied. "My plan was to kill you and kill whatever baby you're carrying. But now that I've seen him... I won't kill him. I'll take care of him. As if he's my own," "What?" Violet gaped. "No! Give me back my baby!"
Celina let out a laugh.
"It's my baby now, Violet," she said as she held baby Zach tighter. "He's mine,"
"No!!!"
"Don't worry, you won't be around long enough for him to know the difference anyway,"
And with that, Celina whipped her head back and went straight for the door.
"No!!! Stop!!! Give me back my baby!!! My baby!!!"
Violet was crying and screaming at the top of her lungs, but Celina just kept going and she slammed the door shut behind her. Violet felt like her soul had been ripped off her body. Her chest was aching to touch that baby again. And the thought that she might never see him again made her want to die.
Violet was left in a pool of blood and tears. She thought she had experienced pain before, but this was something else. There was nothing more painful than being given hope and watching it be ripped away from you the very next second. Nothing
