The Man in Power After Being Married into Her Family -
Chapter 4004
"Do you think I don't want to keep up with the times?"
Gopher rubbed his temples, annoyed. "I said the same thing to the boss a long time ago, but he's not willing to invest. He just told us to bear with it! I'm just as frustrated as you. There's nothing I can do about this." Gopher was displeased with his current boss and hated the way the latter did things.
After the new boss seized power, the first thing he did was put money in his own pocket. The welfare of other workers didn't cross his mind the slightest.
If one requested him to give up on his income temporarily and use the money for a long-term investment that would benefit the gang as a whole, he would refuse.
Unless it concerned his personal profits, he wouldn't be interested.
Gopher was unable to persuade his new boss, especially when the man was so hardheaded. As such, he could only watch as the casino's business grew worse and worse over time. Just then, his cell phone rang.
Looking at the ID, he was surprised to see that Claudia, his cousin, was actually calling him. She had been ignoring him all this while, so this was unexpected.
He answered the call with a grin. "Hello, my dear cousin. What's going on? Why are you calling your old cousin brother?"
Claudia's tone was nonchalant." Stephanie's cousin brother, Mr. Wade, asked me in private where he can play a couple of games. I don't know anyone else to turn to, so I can only ask you." Gopher didn't doubt her words. He replied cheerfully, "Haha, so he wants to play poker? That's easy. We have our own casino. He can come and play as much as he wishes."
He then added, "You have to tell him that our casino isn't a place for petty games. If he wants to enter the arena, he needs to have at least ten thousand Canadian dollars to exchange for chips." Claudia said, "Mr. Wade isn't short of money. He's the owner of a large shipping business, and he came to Canada to buy a cargo ship from Vancouver."
"Buy a cargo ship?" Gopher repeated, delighted.
A cargo ship wasn't something that could be bought just for fun!
The price of a random cargo ship would start from at least ten million US dollars. If it was a special cargo ship to transport liquefied gas, the price could reach hundreds of millions of US dollars. Gopher immediately assumed that Stephanie's cousin brother must be very rich.
What a casino operator desired most was rich customers. The wealthy to them was akin to fat sheep to be slaughtered. If the operation went well, they could make millions out of a person. His casino was only an underground casino in Vancouver. If it was a top casino in Las Vegas, it wouldn't be uncommon for them to rip a VIP off hundreds of millions of dollars.
Gopher grinned, pleased, and said excitedly, "Of course, he's welcome anytime! Ask him when he wants to come."
Claudia said, "Mr. Wade said that he wants to play at around nine. He requests you to pick him up at Mrs. Lewis' house."
"What? He is asking me to pick him up?" Gopher frowned. He was still the gang's second-in-command. Wouldn't it be a bit too much to order him to pick up that Mr. Wade? While he was hesitating, Claudie added, "Mr. Wade said that he'll exchange one hundred thousand Canadian dollars in chips when he arrives at the casino." "Oh! Okay, I'll pick him up at nine sharp!"
The promise of a thousand Canadian dollars worth of chips destroyed Gopher's reluctance and he immediately agreed.
One hundred thousand Canadian dollars!
That was no small amount.
According to the casino's rules, if the one hundred thousand Canadian dollars was lost in the casino, the code boy would receive 5%, and the introducer would take 2 0%!
The code boy was someone who would follow the customer before and after the game, in order to help
the Cut exchange chips. Once
a code boy had enough resources in his hands, courtesy of a large pool of customers, he would then be transformed into the casino's senior partner.
Generally, what casinos lacked the most was customers. Specifically, high-quality customers who were willing to spend a lot of money. Therefore, they were generally
willing to give 20% to 40% of the
chips to the code boy and the
introducer in order to maintain a steady flow of customers and
bolster the casino's income.
In truth, casinos under the operation of Italian gangs were considered quite stingy: Major casinos in Las Vegas would generally give 40% as commission as a way to attract
more customers. 20% was a measly amount.
Because of this, the rich would introduce their friends from the same wealthy circle to high-end casinos so they can get a cut of the referral fees. It didn't matter if their friends lost money to gambling.
