The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 13
Jessica POV
I didn’t sleep much throughout the night, I had so much on my mind and I was nervous about my escape plan. I sure hope that I can pull it off.
I got out of bed and had a quick shower, before getting dressed, in some fresh clothes that Josh had brought me, including a pair of black leggings and an long oversized blue sweatshirt, it was warm and comfy, perfect incase I’m stuck travelling through the woods, for a long period of time.
There was a knock at the door and I waited anxiously, to see who it was.
The door opened and I smiled when I saw that it was Josh. He was smiling back at me, whiling holding a tray for food.
“I brought you breakfast.” He said, as he walked over to put the tray down on the coffee table.
“Thank you.” I replied sincerely.
“Did you read any of the books I brought you?” He asked casually.
“I did, the supernatural one about werewolves, I couldn’t put it down.” I replied with a smile. He looked at me curiously for a few minutes. He appeared as though, he was having an internal battle with himself, on whether to say something or not. I decided to speak again, when he didn’t say anything.
“Josh, I was wondering if you would be willing to take me outside? Only for a few minutes, I’m dying for fresh air.” I blurted out nervously, as I watched his face closely, to see his reaction. He was silent for a minute, I could see he was thinking over my request. My heart was hammering in my chest. I need him to agree, or all hope would be lost.
“Ya, I don’t see a problem with that.” He replied, with a smile and I couldn’t helped the giant excited smile that formed on my face.
“Thank you.” I replied, with a chipper tone.
“Finish up your breakfast and I’ll come back a little later to get you. We can go for a walk around the territory.” He offered and I again thanked him.
Josh left my room and I went over to the couch to eat my breakfast. I was radiating with hope and excitement, my plan is working. I might have my freedom back, by the end of the day. I’m a little nervous, I mean, I have no clue where I am, it seems I’m in the middle of the woods, I wonder how far from the city I am.
After breakfast, I waited anxiously for Josh to return. I tried to read one of the books that he brought me, but after reading the same line ten times and still not actually processing the words, I gave up. I jump in surprise, when there was another knock at the door.
The door opened and my heart rate increased with anticipation. I was happy, when I saw Josh standing there.
“Are you ready to go?” Josh asked.
“I am.” I replied softly, trying to calm my nerves.
“Let’s go.” He said and motions for me to walk out of the room, I complied and then paused for him to take the lead, since I didn’t know where I was going.
“This way.” He instructed and I followed close behind him.
Once we got outside, I took in a deep breath of fresh air, it felt like forever since I had been outside.
“There’s a trail over there that runs along the territory, would you like to walk it?” Josh asked, while glancing at me with a genuine smile.
“I would love that.” I replied, with my own smile.
We started to walk in silence, it was a gorgeous sunny day, a bit on the cold side, but that was expected for January.
We had been walking for a good fifteen minutes and we were now out of sight of the pack house, in the middle of the forest, with no one insight.
“You know, Alpha Colton is a good guy, he comes across as harsh, but it’s only because his people rely on him to keep them safe” Josh said, breaking the silence. I didn’t reply, all I’ve seen from Alpha Colton, is how intimidating and cruel he can be, I don’t think I can believe Josh’s words.
“It’s just, you’re a bit of a mystery, you show up with no scent and no memory, it raised a few red flags. Plus, Alpha Colton doesn’t trust many people, so that’s why he’s acting the way he is. I’m sure after a while, he’ll relax a bit around you.” Josh continued to say and I was once again confused. What do they mean, when they say that I don’t have a scent? They talk so weirdly and who are his people? Are they people in his cult? I had so many questions.
“What do you mean, that I don’t have a scent?” I asked, barely above a whisper. Josh glanced at me and I could see hesitation in his eyes.
“I’m going to let Alpha Colton explain that to you, it’s complicated. What I will say, is that you aren’t who you think you are, I believe there’s a lot about your past that will be a shock to you, when you discover it.” He replied, with a concerned frown, I didn’t replied, I was busy processing his words.
All of a sudden, Josh stopped in his tracks, making me lift my eyes to see why he stopped. We were in front of a gorgeous big lake, there were ripples in the water from the cold breeze that blew over it and trees surrounded the entire lake. I bet during summer, this would be an amazing place to swim.
I saw Josh, take a seat by the water, on a fallen tree trunk. He was looking over the picturesque view, with his back turned to me. I quickly scanned the area and there it was, a large stone the size of a football, my ticket to freedom, I thought to myself.
My heart beat sped up and I had to take a deep breath to calm it down. This is it, it’s now or never.
I quietly grabbed the stone from the ground and walked up to Josh, he started to turn around towards me and I wasted no time, I slammed the rock on his head and Josh immediately fell to the ground, unconscious.
My hands were trembling and the guilt within me multiplied. What have I done, I hope he will be ok. I ripped a piece of his T-shirt and wrapped it around his head to stop the bleeding, I pulled him up into a sitting position and leaned him up against the fallen tree.
‘I’m sorry’ I whispered, before turning around and looking for the best direction to run.
I spotted an old overgrown trail, through some trees and decided that, that would be my best way to go. I took off running as fast as I could, I didn’t want to waste anytime and needed to get as far away from this place as possible.
I ran for what felt like forever, but in reality was probably only an hour, when I decided to stop and catch my breath. I was now, deep in the forest, there was nothing around to help guide me out.
After taking a ten minute break, I started to walk again, until I heard a twig snap in the distance. I quickly ducked into a large thick bush to hide.
I could see through the branches and all of a sudden two wolves can into sight. They were smelling all the trees and appeared to be looking for something. My heart beat was racing, they were probably fifty feet away from me. I stayed as still as possible and silently prayed that they wouldn’t find me.
After around ten minutes, they finally trotted off the way they had arrive. Their behaviour was odd, I didn’t feel like they were hunting, but rather searching for something. Maybe they had a bone buried somewhere around here, I thought to myself.
I waited five more minutes, to make sure the coast was clear, before I got out of the bush and continued to run.
I had been running for several more hours and I had no idea, if I was going deeper into the forest, or if I was heading towards the city. All I knew, was that I was finally free and I felt a huge weight lifted from my shoulders.
I stopped by a small creek and had a sip of water and another short rest. I hope, I make it out of the forest soon, it’s starting to get dark and I won’t be able to see anything in the next hour or so.
I got back up and started to walk, another half hour went by and it felt like I was walking in circles, I could of sworn, that I had passed the same trees fifteen minutes ago. I was getting frustrated, but kept pushing forward. My determination to get home was strong, I can’t stop now, I’ve come so far.
Finally in the distance, I could see the trees opening up slightly and lights flickered in between them, it looked like I was getting closer to civilization.
I picked up my pace and ran for the tree line, the closer i got, the more excited I became, I could see clearly now that it was in fact the city. I had no clue which part, but I didn’t care, once I made it out of the woods, it would be a piece of cake to find my way to the apartment.
I wonder what Samantha will do when she seems me. I’m so excited to see her and Brad. I hope he didn’t hire someone else, to replace me at the coffee shop.
I finally made it out to the tree line and onto a quiet little side street, in the middle of a residential subdivision.
I didn’t recognize the area, but figured if I got to a busier street, something might look familiar.
I walked through the subdivision and made it out to a busier street and I immediately recognized it, as Lake Street. I was approximately twenty minutes from homes, now I was beaming with excitement.
I ran the rest of the way, I couldn’t wait to see my roommate, she won’t believe what I’ve been through over the past few days. I’ll have to report the incident to the police, but I can do that later, going home is my top priority.
I reached the main doors to our apartment building and the front doors were locked as usual, I didn’t have my keys, so I ran the buzzer.
“Hello?” I heard Samantha’s voice greet through the intercom.
“Samantha, it’s me, Jessica.” I practically squealed out, unable to contain my excitement. The line went quiet for a moment and I was worried that I got disconnected.
“Are you still there?” I asked, now concerned.
“Oh my god Jessica, I can’t believe it’s you. I’m on my way down right now.” She spat out and the intercom disconnected, before I could answer.
