The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 54
Alpha Colton POV
I really didn’t want to leave, I knew the longer I stayed in my office with Jess, the more likely I was to cancel my trip and I can’t afford to do that. The Cold Stone Pack is in a fragile state right now, until I gain the packs loyalty, they are at risk of attacks from other packs that will want to absorb them.
Josh and I got into one of the Black SUV’s that was waiting out front, while the rest of the warriors pilled into another vehicle. I left my Gamma, Kyle in charge of the territory, while we were away.
“Let’s go, the faster we get there, the faster we can come home.” I grumbled. Josh chuckled, but didn’t argue. He hit the accelerator and we flew down the road. I knew he was just as annoyed about this trip as I was.
“So, how’s things going with your, MATE?” Josh asked, emphasizing the word, while glancing over at me with a grin. The guy is relentless, he’ll never stop rubbing the whole mate thing in my face.
“Good. I’m taking her away for a night when we get back.” I replied, ignoring his attempt to get under my skin.
“That’s good. I think Jess is going to be a great Luna. She’s smart, loving and loyal to the people closest to her.” Josh said, in a more serious tone. I couldn’t agree more, she really does have all the attributes to be a great leader.
“I think so too.” I replied.
“Plus, she’ll be perfect to balance out your grumpiness.” Josh teased and I shot him a glare. I knew he couldn’t be serious for long.
“Just shut up and drive.” I spat out and he chuckled at my irritation.
The rest of the drive was fairly quiet, I couldn’t stop thinking about my mate. I hope she let’s me mark her when I get back. My wolf has been on my case, trying to get me to mark her immediately, but I don’t want to do it, not until she’s ready.
I know she’s attracted to me, when we k**s, we both get lost in the moment and I know she wants to go further. I just need to make sure her heart and head are on the same page. I plan on have that conversation with her, when I take her away.
We made it to the Cold Stone Pack and were greeted at the front doors by my warriors that had stayed behind.
“Alpha, nice to have you back.” One of the warriors greeted and I nodded.
“Let’s head into the office. I want a report of what’s been going on, since we left.” I ordered and the warriors quickly lead the way inside.
We reached the office and I took a seat being the desk. Josh sat on the couch, while the four warriors remained standing by the door.
“Where are you guys at, with the interviews?” I asked. When we left last time, I asked my warriors to interview everyone and anyone that remained loyal to Alpha Ryan, were to be banned from the pack and turned rogue.
“Good, Alpha. We found five men that were still loyal to Alpha Ryan, they tried to deny it, but other sources within the pack confirmed our suspicions. They have been dealt with.
“Good.” Anything else I should know about?” I asked sternly. I could see the warriors had something on their minds, they all shared a similar nervous look.
“What is it?” I demanded, irritated that they weren’t answering me fast enough.
“Well, we scented some wolves around the border earlier today. We never actually saw anyone, but they were definitely from Alpha Philip’s pack based on their scent. We don’t know if they are planning an attack, or what exactly they were doing here.” One of the warriors reported nervously.
f**k! What is that a*****e doing snooping around this pack? Is he planning on attacking? Like hell I’m just going to sit back and let him take this territory from me. This is probably his attempt at revenge for me denying his daughter, Heather.
“Anything else?” I gritted out angrily.
“No Alpha, the pack seems relieved with the changes around her. I think most are ready to pledge their loyalty to you.” The same warrior continued to report.
His words caused my anger to lessen slightly, I was happy that the pack was accepting the changes that I was making. Ultimately, everything I was doing, it was in the best interest of the people who live here. Alpha Ryan did thing that would benefit himself, instead of his people, making them suffer in return. For example, he used most of the pack money for himself, I’ve made arrangements for the money to be spent where it’s needed. If a home needed repairs, they could submit a claim and things would get fixed on a priority bases, not based on rank and status.
“Good, we will hold a ceremony tomorrow, before I leave. I want to solidify my place in this pack as fast as possible, so guys like Alpha Philip know who’s territory this is.” I replied and the warriors all nodded.
“Is there anything else, Alpha?” One of them asked.
“No, you’re all excused.” I replied and they bowed their heads, before leaving the room and shutting the door behind them.
“What do you think Alpha Philip’s men were doing here?” Josh asked, with a concerned frown.
“I have no idea, but I know it can’t be anything good. The last time I spoke to him, he dropped us as ally’s because I wouldn’t take Heather as my chosen Mate. I wouldn’t be surprised, if he’s planning on getting back at me.” I replied truthfully.
“I’ll have some more warriors sent over, from back home. If he attacks, we will be ready.” Josh said and I nodded. I definitely wanted more warriors here, I didn’t want this pack to be slaughtered in a war that isn’t their to fight.
Josh and I stayed up most of the night, we wanted to get as much done as possible so we could head home a bit earlier. I picked two members of the current pack that have shown me loyalty and strength. Tomorrow, I plan on announcing them as the new Beta and Gamma of the pack.
They will run the pack in my absence, but maintain close communication with me regarding any major decisions.
Luckily the pack isn’t very far from mine, so I can get here in a hurry if I’m ever needed. This pack is only half the size of my pack, so they will benefit from the added security.
It was around 4:00am, when Josh finally retreated to his room for a couple hour rest. I was to anxious to get home, I knew there was no point in laying down, I wouldn’t be able to sleep.
I went back to my room and had a shower, before throwing on some fresh clothe. I wore a pair of black dress pants and an army green button up shirt. I wanted to look presentable for the ceremony today.
Once I had freshened up, I went back to my office and continued to make arrangements.
I had a bad feeling in my gut about Alpha Philip, I sure hope he knows better then to start a war with me. My pack alone is stronger than his, but now I have taken over a second pack. He wouldn’t stand a chance. I still don’t want a war, so many lives are sacrificed that even if you win, it’s a sad day.
Josh came back to the office around 8:00am. He didn’t seem like he actually slept any, but at least he changed his clothes and looked presentable.
We had an omega fetch us Bryan and Christopher, to meet us in the office. They were the two warriors, that I was going to be promoting to Beta and Gamma. They didn’t know it yet, I wanted to tell them in person before the ceremony.
Ten minutes later, the was a knock at the door.
“Come in” I announced.
The door opened and in walked Bryan and Chris.
“Have a seat.” I instructed, while motioning to the chairs in front of me. Josh was sitting on the couch, off to the side. Both men had confused, but curious looks on their faces. I’m sure they were anxious for find out why I called them here.
“I have a proposition for the two of you. I need a Beta and a Gamma for this pack, to help me run it. I’ve been watching you two closely and my warriors have given me feedback during my absence. If you’re both interested, I would like to make you, Bryan, the new Beta and Chris, you would take on the Gamma position. What do you think?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer. It’s a huge honour to move up the ranks. I could see the shock, yet excitement on both their faces.
“Alpha, it would be my honour.” Bryan replied, with a head bow.
“Alpha, I don’t even know what to say. Thank you for putting your trust in me.” Chris replied, while also bowing his head.
“Good. It’s settled then. You will be announced during the ceremony a little later today.” I said, with nod.
They left my office and Josh and I got back to business. We worked non stop all day, until it was time for the ceremony.
The entire pack was gathered in the dinner hall. The room had been rearranged to accommodate everyone.
One of the pack elders stood on the stage and would be the one conducting the ceremony. I made my way towards him.
“Alpha, everything is ready when you are.” The elder advised.
“Perfect, let’s start.” I replied and he nodded.
“Silence!” The elder announced, causing the room to quiet down.
“The ceremony will begin.” He continued and now had everyone’s full attention.
“As you already know, Alpha Colton defeated Alpha Ryan in a fight till death. Making him the new Alpha of this pack. If anyone would like to challenge him for the title, now is the time to do it.” The elder announced and the room went dead silent.
“Very we…” The elder continued, but was cut off.
“I challenge him.” A deep voice from the back of the room announced, drawing everyone’s eyes towards it. There were several gasps and everyone was whispering amongst themselves.
The crowd moved away from the voice, leaving one man standing in the middle, Alpha Philip. How the hell did he make it onto the territory and how dare he challenge me? Rage boiled in my veins. If he wants a fight, that is exactly what I would give him.
The man must of had Heather at a young age, because he doesn’t look a day over 40, he’s tall and muscular and has a dangerous, yet powerful aura.
I know this is going to be a tough fight. The only thing going through my mind right now, is Jess. What if I never get to see her again? I have to win, losing is not an option.
