The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 60
Jessica POV
It’s been three days since the attack. Colton and Josh are still unconscious, but they’re looking much better. Their wounds are almost completely healed. Colton would be back to normal by now, if it hadn’t of been for the wolfbane that was in his system. Because of the drug, his healing was slower. Josh, who was in worse shape when he arrived, has caught up to Colton when it comes to healing. The doctor figures that both of them could wake up at any point now.
I haven’t left Colton’s side much. I was grateful when one of the nurses brought in a cot for me to sleep on. I wasn’t about to complain, but after sleeping in the chair the first night, I was extremely thankful.
The entire pack now knows that I’m their Alpha’s mate. Since he’s been in a coma, everyone has turned to me for answers and it’s been overwhelming. A lot of people are nervous that we will be attacked again. I’ve been doing my best to reassure them, but it’s hard when I’m nervous about the same thing.
Alpha Peter has been staying with us ever since he found out that my mother is his second chance mate. He’s actually been really helpful and has gently guided me, when it comes to pack business. I’m extremely appreciative. I don’t know how long he plans on staying with us, but him and my mother seem to be really hitting it off. She might not be ready to dive right into a relationship, but she certainly is warming up to him.
I was sitting in the hospital room reading a book, when there was a knock at the door.
“Come in.” I announced.
The door opened and Kyle walked in, with a serious expression on his face.
“Luna, how are you?” He greeted, while bowing his head respectively.
“I’m good, Kyle. What’s wrong?” I asked, with a concerned frown. I could tell this wasn’t just a friendly visit and I didn’t want to beat around the bush.
“We’ve scented some of Alpha Philip’s men just outside our territory. The pack members are starting to panic, they think he’s planning another attack.” Kyle replied, in a serious tone and I could hear the concern in his voice. My heart beat picked up, as I processed his words. Was Alpha Philip’s planning another attack?
“Put together a small team of warriors. I’ll talk to my mother and get a scent masking potion made for them. I want surveillance conducted on Alpha Philip’s territory. If he’s planning an attack, we need to know about it and be ready.” I replied, in a confident and assertive voice.
“That’s a good idea, Luna. I’ll have the men ready immediately.” Kyle replied, seeming genuinely impressed with the suggestion.
“Also, I’ll talk with Alpha Peter about reinforcing our border patrol with more of his men. Can you call a pack meeting for 7:00pm?” I’ll let everyone know what’s going on and hopefully reassure them a little.” I asked.
“Yes, Luna. Anything else?” He asked.
“No, that’s all for now.” I replied and Kyle left the room.
When I was once again alone with Colton, I let out a defeated sigh. Goddess, please wake up soon. I really could use your help right now, I silently prayed.
I’ve never been in charge of a pack and to be honest, Colton hasn’t even accepted me yet. I wonder how he’s going to feel, when he wakes up and realizes that his entire pack has been reliant on me to lead them in his absence.
As much as I didn’t want to leave his side, I knew it was important that I talk with my mother and Alpha Peter, regarding this new information. I just hope, Colton doesn’t wake up while I’m not here. I don’t want him waking up alone.
I made my way to the pack house and towards my mothers room. I reached the door and immediately froze in shock, when I heard noises coming from inside. Not just any kind of noises, but my mother was moaning and I heard several crashing sounds. I shuddered at the thought of what I was interrupting. I felt uncomfortably all of a sudden and if this wasn’t urgent, I would of ran away from this door as fast as humanly possible.
Taking a deep breath, I reluctantly knocked.
“s**t! Who could that be.” I heard my mother whisper nervously.
“By the scent I’m picking up, I’d say your daughter.” I heard Alpha Peter reply, with a chuckle.
“Damn, she can’t see you in here, hide in the closet.” I heard my mom whisper yell, making me chuckle lightly.
She sounds like a teenager trying to hide her boyfriend from her parents.
“I hate to break it to you my love, but she’s a werewolves. She can hear this entire conversation.” Alpha Peter replied and I could hear the amusement in his tone.
“F**k.” My mother grumbled, before the bedroom door opened.
I couldn’t help but smile in amusement at the sight. They were both completely dressed, but their clothed were wrinkled and hair was disheveled. My mothers lips were red and swollen, leading me to believe they must of been having one heck of a make out session. My mother had a sheepish look on her face. I looked passed her and saw Alpha Peter, sitting on the edge of the bed with a grin on his face. There were picture frames broken on the floor and one of the bedside lamps was broken. My eyes widen when I took in the mess, so much for her wanting to take it slow, I thought to myself.
“Ummm…Hey hun. We were just talking and the lamp accidentally fell and broke.” She explained nervously. I shook my head, bringing me out of my shock state.
“I don’t need an explanation, I’m sorry for disturbing you. I just really need to talk with both of you.” I explained and my mothers expression turned to concern, when she saw how serious I was.
“What is it? Is Colton ok?“ She asked with a frown. Alpha Peter had sensed my serious tone and came to stand by my mother at the door.
“Colton is fine, but border patrol reported that they scented Alpha Philip’s men just outside our border. The entire pack is panicking, thinking we’re going to be attacked again.” I replied, while glancing between the two of them.
“He very well could be planning another attack. Especially if he’s gotten word that both the Alpha and Beta, are currently out of commission.” Alpha Peter said, with his own frown.
“Exactly. I’m sending a few of our men to conduct surveillance on Alpha Philip’s territory. They will remain outside of the border, but keep an eye on things, that way if Alpha Philip’s is planning anything, we should have a heads up. Mom can you make a scent masking spell?” I asked.
“Of course, I can have that ready in a couple of hours.” She replied, with a nod.
“I’ll call my Beta and get some more men over here.” Alpha Peter advised.
“Thank you. I called a pack meeting for 7:00pm. I’m hoping that I can calm the people down a little.” I said, while rubbing a hand down my face.
“Just be honest with them. They need to know that the pack is ready, if there is another attack.” Peter suggested.
“It’s hard, they don’t even know me yet. How do I get them to trust me, when I haven’t even earn it?” I asked, feeling frustrated. It’s true, most of them didn’t even know who I was a few days ago, why would they believe anything I say. Colton hasn’t even marked me yet. I was starting to second guess myself.
“You saved their Alpha, Jess. They’ve already accepted you as their leader, don’t doubt yourself. You’re a nature at being Luna and the pack members are coming to you, because they already trust you.” Alpha Peter said and I could hear the sincerity in his voice.
“It’s true sweetheart. Kyle was the one left in charge, when Alpha Colton first went to the Cold Stone Pack. But now, everyone is turning to you for answers, including Kyle.” My mother added.
It’s true. Ever since the attack happened, my natural instincts took over and I started commanding the warriors, without even realizing what I was doing. Even Kyle fell in line and didn’t question me.
“Thanks guys. I just really wish Colton would wake up. He would know exactly what to do.” I said, giving them as small sad smile. I missed his voice so much.
“I know, but you have to be strong. These are your people as well.” My mother replied, while squeezing my shoulder in a comforting way.
I looked down at my watch and saw that it was getting close to 7:00pm.
“Thanks guys. I better head outside, the pack meeting starts in a few minutes.” I said, giving them a small smile.
“We’ll be down shortly.” Alpha Peter replied and I nodded before leaving the room.
I made my way outside of the pack house. The meetings were usually held there, so the front steps could be use as a makeshift stage.
Most of the pack was already gathered. Kyle stood by the front doors, with a few warriors chatting.
“Luna, these are the men that will be going to Alpha Philip’s territory, to conduct surveillance. This is Ted, Harold, Brent and Victor.” Kyle introduced, while pointing at each man, when he told me their names. They all bowed their heads respectively.
“It’s nice to meet you. I appreciate you taking on this mission.” I replied, with a nod.
“It’s our pleasure, Luna. We would do anything for you and Alpha Colton.” One of the men replied truthfully, catching me slightly off guard. My mother and Alpha Peter were right, they already see me as one of their leaders.
“Thank you.” I replied, with a genuine smile.
My mother and Alpha Peter arrived shortly after and stood at the top of the stairs with me. It was now 7:00pm and the entire pack was gathered and chatting amongst themselves. Kyle handed me the mic.
“Good evening everyone.” I announced, getting the crowds attention.
“You’re all probably wondering why I called you here tonight.” I said and paused for a second. The crowd was dead silent and I could see how eager everyone was for me to continue.
“I know I haven’t met everyone yet, but as you may have heard, I’m Alpha Colton’s mate and your soon to be Luna. My name is, Jessica.” I announced and was surprised when there were no gasps or whispers. I guess that confirms that everyone already knew.
“We only found out a day before the attack that we were mates, that’s why I’m not marked yet.” I continued and saw a few heads nod in understanding.
“As you may already know, Alpha Philip’s was responsible for the attack at the Cold Stone Pack and was working with Alpha Marco of the Fire Sky Pack. Early today, border patrol scented some of Alpha Philip’s men outside our border. We don’t know what they were doing here, but as a precaution, we are increasing our border patrol and Alpha Peter is bringing in more men from his territory to help us in the event of another attack.” I inform them, there were a few gasps but for the most part, everyone remained silent.
“Your Alpha and Beta are making great progress, when it comes to their recovery. The doctor believes that they will be awake very soon. I want you all to know, that until they are, I will do everything in my power to keep you and your families safe. Alpha Philip’s doesn’t stand a chance against us.” I added and could see the relief on a lot of their faces.
“Thank you, Luna.” I heard several pack members shout, while others cheered.
I scanned over the crowd, while waiting for everyone to quiet down. My eyes landed on someone who stood at the very back, leaning against a building. My heart literally skipped a beat, when I realized that it was Colton.
My emotions were going crazy. I was excited, relieved and nervous. How long had he been standing there? Did I overstep my boundaries? Did he listen to my entire speech?
He had an expression on his face that I couldn’t quite make out. He was still wearing a hospital gown, but it was covered with a jacket and a pair of sweat pants. His arms were crossed over his chest and he was looking at me intently.
