Chapter 75

Jessica POV

The last three days have flown by. Everything has slowly gotten back to normal. My mother and Alpha Peter, returned to their territory and it seem the Cold Stone Pack members, were thrilled to find out that they would be merging with them. Ultimately, it was the best decision for both packs, they would be stronger as one.

Our new pack members have been adjusting well in their new homes and we’ve found appropriate jobs for everyone capable of working.

Today is a bitter sweet day. I’m on my way to the hospital, where Heather will be receiving her lethal injection. I hate death, but the reality is, Heather dug her own grave. She had the chance to change her ways, but chose to continue with her madness.

The guards reported that she hasn’t eaten or drank anything since her trial. I guess the rejection really did a number on her. On the other hand, my mother reported that Clay has already mark his chosen mate and they are both thrilled with how things worked out. It was good to hear, now that he is mated, Heather’s death shouldn’t be painful for him.

Colton has been planning the Luna ceremony. He’s desperate to make it official once everything’s finally behind us, meaning Heather is dealt with. Ever since the scare of losing his memory, he’s been extra clingy. I don’t mind though, I think it’s cute how much time he wants to spend with me.

I reached the hospital and walked in the main doors.

“There’s my Luna. How are you?” Colton asked, while wrapping his arms around me in a bone crunching hug. I could feel the tension in his body. As much as Heather did some unforgivable things, I knew this was still hard on him.

“Good, sorry I’m late. I was helping a few of the new pack members.” I replied, with a soft smile.

“You’re not late. The doctor was just setting up the room. You can stay out here if you want. I don’t mind going in alo…” Colton started, but I cut him off.

“No, I’m going in with you. We’ll face this together. We’re a team now, for both the good times and bad ones.” I replied sternly and he smiled before kissing my lips gently.

“I’m taking you away after the Luna ceremony. We are finally going to get some well deserved alone time.” He stated.

“Yes Pleaseeee.” I replied dramatically, making him chuckle lightly.

“Alpha, Luna, sorry to disturb you, but we are ready to begin when you are.” The doctor, who had just walked into the waiting room, announced.

“Of course Doctor. Let’s get this over with.” Colton said, with a heavy sigh.

We followed the Doctor down the hall in silence. It was a weird feeling knowing someone was about to die. I mean, I’ve seen people die before, I’ve even killed some, but never an execution. It felt like I was attending a funeral, but the person wasn’t dead yet. Several emotions were consuming my body, relief, anger but mostly sadness. I wish she didn’t force our hands. She could of lived a long happy life had she just moved on.

We reached the room and the Doctor opened the door for us to go in first.

My breath caught in my throat at the sight. There were two guards stationed on each side of the hospital bed, where Heather laid motionless. An elder stood in the corner, to witness the execution. Heather had silver cuffs restraining both her wrists and her ankles. There was an IV already attached to her hand and a heart monitor, that was registering her heart rate.

“Heather, do you have anything to say before we administer the lethal injection?” The elder asked, in firm voice.

“I hope you burn in hell! You took him from me and you’re the reason my mate rejected me.” She spat, while her eyes stayed locked with mine. The venom in her words was unmistakable.

“You have no one to blame but yourself.” I replied calmly, even though my heart was beating a mile a minute.

I saw Colton nod at the Doctor, who picked up a syringe and walk over to the hospital bed. He put the needle in Heather’s IV, before plunging the liquid out of the syringe.

“I’m sorry, please don’t do this.” Heather begged, while tears streamed down her cheeks and she tried to sit up on the bed.

It only took seconds before she fell back and her body started to convulse. The heart monitor was beeping at a higher than normal rate. I averted my eyes, unable to watch anymore.

The doctor had said that the medicine worked quickly and she wouldn’t feel pain. She would basically fall into a deep sleep and never again wake up. It still didn’t feel right to watch. Colton had gripped my hand firmly, in an attempt to comfort me. The room had fallen silent, I couldn’t even hear any noises coming from where Heather laid. Within seconds the heart monitor sounded in a steady beep, indicating that she had passed.

Once the doctor officially pronounced her dead, Colton and I quickly made our way out of the room. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding, as a single tear ran down my cheek.

“You ok?” Colton asked, while giving me a comforting hug.

“Ya, you?” I asked. Knowing that this wasn’t only hard on me.

“I’m just relieved we can finally move on with our lives.” He sighed.

We headed back to the pack house in a comfortable silence. The heavy air surrounding us had finally lifted and I could breath without worrying for once.

We went back to our room and spent the rest of the day in bed. Just holding onto one another and appreciating some time alone. We took the time to think about all the good in our lives and where our future was heading. It was nice that we could finally relax and think about us.

I feel like our entire relationship together, has been nothing but one struggle after another. We haven’t had the time to really appreciate one another.

“What are you thinking about?” I asked, while gently stroking Colton’s forearm that was firmly wrapped around my waist.

“How I can’t wait to make you my official Luna and start a family with you.” He replied, while peppering k****s along my neck. His reply caught me off guard. We hadn’t yet talked about starting a family and I wasn’t sure what he wanted. I did like the fact that he brought it up though. It means he’s been thinking about us building our own little family.

“So you want kids?” I asked softly.

“Of course I do. Don’t you?” He replied, sounding almost concerned.

“I do, we just haven’t talked about this before. How many pups do you want?” I asked, leaning my head back against him. He relaxed at my words and continued to trail k****s along my skin.

“I want as many pups as you’ll give me.” He joked, before adding “I was always jealous of my friends that had siblings growing up. I wished for a big family. How about you?” He asked.

“I always wanted sibling too. I think it would of been fun to have a protective brother, or a sister that was practically my best friend.” I replied, while a little smile spread across my face at the thought.

“It’s settled then. We’re going to have enough pups to make our own soccer team.” Colton joked, while pulling me even tighter against his body.

“I don’t know about a soccer team, but I want at least two pups.” I replied, while chuckling.

“I can work with that.” Colton whispered, before sucking on my ear lobe.
