The whole night after getting back from Amara’s house I was thinking about her, we were so close and it felt good. It felt right but my emotions darken as I think about her father, he almost f*****g hit her. I can tell they don’t treat her right and when she cried, all I wanted was to hold her close and keep her in my embrace.

Plopping into my seat in the foyer, I get my phone and text her good night.

The castle is quiet as everyone is off to bed, I go to my father’s mini bar and drink his whiskey, damn, he would be so upset if he saw me.

I get the whole bottle and go back to the foyer, drowning myself in alcohol when I feel hands on my shoulders. I jerk up and sigh, even in the dark I can make out her silhouette. She comes into the light and presents her naked self.

” Nora,”

She is lady Savannah’s niece, she started staying here after she was done with her law degree in Havard last year, while she waits to be employed at one of the pack companies, she works at our airline. Did I mention she has a thing for me?

” Hey,” Nora smiles, coming in front of me. She straddles me, running her hand in my hair.

” I’ve been waiting for you since last week, what happened?” She asks as she leaves wet k****s on my neck.

” I was busy,” I reply, drinking from the bottle.

” Ahyan, do you want to go to my apartment?” She asks in a sexy voice. I gently get her off my lap.

” No, I’m tired,” I get up and k**s her close to her lips, I learned it makes girls feel special, so I do it.

She pouts and caresses my chest but I move away.

She scoffs then smirks ” You’ve changed, you’re seeing someone,”

” I see a lot of girls, you know better,” I tell her the truth.

” I know that but whoever she is, you like her… You’re attached,” Nora accuses, sounding amused.

” Blasphemy!”

“I just didn’t know a day will come where you’d get attached to someone,” she says, smiling.

” I’m not attached, it’s just a game, a bet,” I inform her sternly, but Drakon says otherwise.

” Just a bet,” I repeat, trying to convince myself, just a bet, just a bet Ahyan, it will be over and you’ll forget about her.

” I beg to differ, and so does your d**k,” she counters, I didn’t even realize her hand was over my jeans.

I leave her to go to my suite, I finish the bottle of whiskey before going to bed.

The next day, I’m anxious to go to school just to see Amara. Before Cullen can come in with his bloody instrument, I’m done getting ready.

As he is about to enter my suite, I push the door open, he looks shocked by this and signals the other man who blows that dreadful triumphant to go away. I smile and head downstairs.

” My prince, you’re ready. It’s 7. 30 am,” he says as he follows behind me, excited that I’ll be on time to school today. I nod and go to the table. My brother Theodore is already there, dressed for class. Aah, this goodie two shoes. He raises his eyebrows when he sees me, stunned evident on his face.

” Brother, you’re on time,” he acknowledges, checking on his wristwatch. I get a piece of bacon from his plate.

” Yep,”

After breakfast, I drive to school with my brother. Theo goes to his class as he needs to do an assignment and I stand on the second-floor stairs with my boys. Seeing who walks in.

Before the door to the first hallway floor opens, I smell her. Amara. She walks in with Sophie, in my mind, it’s happening in slow motion. She looks breathtaking and I see students make way for them to pass. I smile.

She looks up here and I see her cheeks redden but she waves nevertheless.

She is about to walk past me when I grab her arms and twirl her to me. We are standing close to her and my heart and hers are pacing for some reason.

” Morning,” I greet, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

She looks up at me and smiles shyly.

” Morning,”

Her voice is soft and it is barely a whisper. She gets out of my grip and I watch her go to class.

” You’re getting attached,” Cole states. He has a wicked smile on his face. I scoff and shake my head.

” I’m Ahyan Altamonte, romance, and attachment is not in my b***d,” I face my friends, they all have different expressions on their face and I narrow my gaze.

” Jay, you know me, it’s not us bro,” He shrugs, scowling. It can’t, I feel my heartbeat quicken then a piercing pain through my chest.

It can’t, I repeat silently. I can’t get attached to Amara, it’s my dragon, not me.

” You had dinner at her house, you do take her places, chat with her and you’re different with her,” Lyon states with the ghost of the smile on his face.

I spend time with Amara because I genuinely enjoy her company but I won’t admit it to my friends.

” It’s for the bet, Amara Adamson is not like any other girls, she’s beautifully different and … Broken,” I whisper the last part. I can see her loneliness and demons, we are somehow similar. She doesn’t open up to people and I’m the same yet we find ourselves talking to no end.

The rest of the day attending class was boring as usual. Afterward, I head straight home to spend some time with my family.

It’s 3 pm and I find everyone in the garden next to the lake. As I approach them, I can see my mother’s wide smile and arms already stretch out to me for a hug. I smile back and wrap my arms around her frame. I stay in her embrace for a long time, relaxing and closing my eyes and when I pull away, she cups my face, concerned on her face ” Are you alright?” Her voice is smooth and gentle. I nod and greet my father who was busy discussing matters of the state with Theo.

Dove and the twins are playing, trying to catch the white doves on the ground while Axel is busy painting not far from here.

I take a seat next to my father and he smiles

” How have you been? I heard you have been missing your class and why didn’t you attend the council meeting yesterday?” He asks all at once. I g***n in frustration and cover my face with my hands. I’m not the perfect son like Theo.

” I was busy, and it’s not like I missed anything important,”

” Son, you must attend the state meeting, this is for the good of the family, your future,” he says sternly. I glance over at mom for help but she ignores me, supporting her husband.

” Lately, you’ve been out of it. You miss training, class and the last week I needed you at a board meeting, but you decide not to show up. Everyone asked about you and I had to make excuses for you,” he continues to scold. My father wants me to start learning more about the Altamonte corporation as I will take over from him in a few years.

Altamonte corporation has many companies under it, we have airlines, and shipping companies but mostly we deal with technology. It is flourishing and known globally and I’m to run it one day but I feel it’s just too much responsibility so I’m hesitant.

” Why can’t Theo do it? He’s already taking from you as the king,” I ask, my brother glares at me and I shrug. My father sighs and it’s my mother who answers.

” Because Altamonte corporation Is not affiliated with the pack, it is our family’s company and Theodore here will be busy with duties as pack alpha and werewolf king,” she explains patiently. I nod and cover her hand with mine before bringing it to my lips for a quick k**s.

” Okay, okay,” I concede.

We discuss further work, my family wants that Theodore should only be the king of werewolves, not alpha to the pack. Since the beginning of time, the alpha of the Royal pack is also the werewolf king, but they want that to change.

We begin to dance, Mom and dad, are dancing to their favorite song, stuck on you by Lionel Richie, while I do the same with my little birdie who is giggling as I twirl her around. Her tiny arms are wrapped around my neck and at this moment, everything is beautiful and blissful.

Unknown to the royal family, as their laughter echo through the garden, a stranger is watching, tears flowing down their cheeks as they turn to walk away.

” Are you alright?” The servant frowns, looking at the crying lady. She raises her hand to stop him and gets into the car.

” Let’s go,”

Why does his mistress do this every month they visit the city? The young man thinks to himself as he drives away.
