Kiarra ran a hand along her stomach feeling the dress beneath her palm. She couldn't take her eyes off of her reflection in the large ceiling to floor mirror in her room. After today she would no longer be a free woman, she would belong to someone else just the same as they would belong to her. A dozen servants had arrived this morning to help her get ready but she had sent them all back leaving just three in her room helping her to get ready. It was absurd that she would need so many hands to help her get ready. The beast kingdom was a buzz with news of her mating and it had spread like wildfire all around. It was all people breathed and talked about. They were fascinated even to the point of being obsessed with her or rather the idea of her. They talked about her as if she wasn't a real life person. They waited with bated breath to know her mate. They all wanted to know who was next in line for the throne. She was the one that held the power to choose their next king along with her father of course. He had to approve as well. She brushed all thoughts from her mind. It was now time. One of the dark haired servants stepped back stunned with her eyes shimmering.

"I-it's I m-mean y-your" her hands cupped her mouth as her cheeks flushed a deep pink shade. " It's beyond beautiful" she praised trying not to cry in front of the princess.

Kiarra politely smiled and thanked them, needing a moment herself. She went out to her balcony and looked out. Everyone was to have arrived by then but she couldn't help her eyes wandering around. It was almost dusk, the clock was ticking.

A knock on her door made her turn around and head back in. She wondered who it was and her curiosity peaked as her aunt wouldn't have knocked and she couldn't think of anyone who would venture to her wing of the palace. Maybe it was one of the servants who had forgotten something.

She called for whoever it was to enter. The last thing she expected was to see bright red hair entering through the door. She was taken aback as his tall figure strolled in. Jackson was dressed in a grey suit with his red hair styled to the side, all that was missing was his infamous lip ring.

Jackson faltered in his step the moment he entered her room and saw her. His eyes took in the beautiful gown she was wearing down to her silky smooth skin. He remembered Kyor's words earlier about having no words or descriptions for things out of this world and it would be a perfect description for this moment except it wasn't food.

He was aware of her confusion and the way her eyes looked displeased when she saw it was him.

"They're gonna think you're the moon goddess herself tonight." he placed his hands in his pockets facing her. Jackson's stone-cold expression hadn't changed a bit.

"Thank you" she said stiffly but her face didn't show any welcoming signs for him there.

It was weird. Despite the fact they barely if even talked over the years it felt like nothing much had changed over the years from when they were closer. Her movements were calm. There was a waiting silence as Kiarra looked at him expectantly raising her brows when he didn't seem to be going to say anything in the awkward silence that was now dragging on.

"I'm sorry you were mated to the alpha. I know how adamant you were on waiting to find your true mate."

Kiarra walked closer to him with her brows furrowed. It almost looked like she was gliding. Everything about her was regal.

"Mated to who?" she asked confused. Her hazel eyes gave away no notion of having a clue as to what he was talking about.

"Ok, we're playing that game." Jackson paced slowly and smirked. "I don't blame you I guess it's best to pretend to forget it because I can understand the embarrassment of being mated to that mistake. I personally think they should have ended him when they had the chance and gotten rid of him. He's an insult to you."

Kiarra shook her head trying to grasp what he was saying.

"I clearly haven't found my mate and have no idea what you're talking about, so is this some sort of game of yours?" she replied as if he was crazy and making things up.

"Game?" he snapped. "Why would I want to play a game on you? That's ridiculous."

"What is ridiculous is you showing up to my room," she said coldly. "What do you want Jackson or rather need for you to slither your way up here? Don't tell me you've lost your shadow?"

Jackson shook his head with a small laugh. She had every right to but it still stung and he looked at her seriously.

"This is out of character for me I must admit but I just came to see how you're doing and to let you know that whatever happened before I apologize. What I'm trying to say is I know I haven't been here for you but no matter what happens moving forward you will always have me. I will always have your back."

"Why now Jackson?" Kiarra asked puzzled. "What do you gain from all of this?"

Jackson smiled sadly at her questions.

"Maybe I'll gain back my best friend.'

"This is perfect timing I suppose for you. You just show up like a white knight and offer your services and I'll just accept them. Do you take me for a fool Jackson?"

Jackson shook his head.

"I don't need you to have my back Jackson, I think if I'm going to pick a candidate it should be one with a much better track record. Thank you for your services. The door is behind you. Please leave." Kiarra didn't dwell on Jackson and his antics. She had a mating ball to attend. She took one last look in the mirror before heading down.
