Felix fell silent before standing up. "If that's your decision, then I have nothing more to say."

To his surprise, Lionel chuckled. "I was just joking. How could I possibly risk my life for that bone? Go ahead with the treatment."

It was all a test to see if Felix truly understood the nature of the bone. Felix hadn't given away anything, so the Warlord felt reassured.

Felix felt a little helpless. Dealing with these experienced veterans was truly nerve-wracking. Even a minor reaction could have complicated things.

Gerald had been right. Only those who practiced the Dragons Destroyer techniqué could safely refine an ancient dragon's spine. Anyone else, like Lionel with his unorthodox approach, was bound to face problems sooner or later.

Outside, Nala sat on a small bench in the courtyard, lost in thought.

To be honest, she had always had men wrapped around her finger, but Felix was different. Not only did he seem unaffected by her charm, but he had also, strangely, become an enigma she couldn't shake.

"Felix! Did it work?" Despite the long wait, neither Ernest nor Isaac showed any impatience.

"Not yet. His condition is complex. Even for me, it can't be cured in one go. It'll take at least a week, so you may head home first, Mr. Holt Senior and Mr. Holt."

A week? Ernest and Isaac exchanged a glance. They had expected a challenge, but this was still surprising.

"Understood. We'll say our goodbyes to him and come back in seven days."

Since waiting around wouldn't be helpful, the two men decided to depart. Once they left, only Felix and Nala remained in the courtyard.

"Do you really love Yvonne?" Nala's voice suddenly broke the silence, making Felix frown.

"Whether I love someone or not-how does that concern you?"

When Felix didn't respond, her frustration only grew. She had never felt this way about a man before.

"My name is Nala Hughman," she said.

Felix turned, surprised by her sudden revelation of her real name.

The two fell into silence once more until Ernest and Isaac returned to say goodbye. Felix offered to see them off, but they declined.

Afterward, Nala gestured to him. "There's another wooden house in the back where you can stay."

The house in the back was a bit larger, with two rooms, each containing a bed.

Felix didn't mind whatever he was given as he was exhausted after refining the ancient dragon's spine. It was a challenging task, especially because he had to do it from within Lionel's body. Hence, he had taken a long time to complete his work that day. As she listened to his steady breathing and watched Felix drift off to sleep, Nala's gaze softened, and her thoughts swirled as she glanced at the ceiling.

"Does this count as living under the same roof?" she murmured to herself.

She rarely stayed in the house adjacent to her grandfather's, so it was an unprecedented event for her. On top of that, she never imagined she would stay so close to Felix.
