The Rise of a Master: It Starts With Rejection
Billionaire With Husband 495

Chapter 495

The burly man had never heard his employer sound so irritated before, but it was understandable given the circumstances.

Taking revenge on someone as insignificant as Ryland should have been a walk in the park. It should have been an effortless task. However, an unexpected hiccup arose.

The unexpected involvement of the Meadowspring village chief wasn't a big deal as their plan could still proceed. However, just as the second phase of their plan was about to begin, someone appeared. That person issued a warning to his employer to leave Michelle and Ryland alone.

His employer had no choice but to swallow his pride and comply. The reason? That person was the legendary Silver Flute. Refusing such a figure could easily cost them their life.

Naturally, all the pent-up frustration and resentment had to be directed somewhere. Since Felix was also involved, he became the perfect target. However, Karina had left Felix out of the loop entirely.

Meanwhile, Jack had just finished washing up. He adjusted his tie in the mirror as he got ready for work.

Just then, Vanessa approached, clutching her phone with visible excitement.

"Ha! I spent over an hour chatting with Nancy last night. I think she's starting to like Felix!

Jack sighed helplessly. "Vanessa, can we have this conversation after you've put on some clothes?"

Vanessa waved him off casually. "What's the big deal? The curtains are closed! I'm being serious here. Felix clearly isn't making an effort. This is the first time I've seen someone like Nancy take the initiative. You need to talk some sense into him!"

Jack gave her a quick kiss before returning to the mirror to put on his tie. "How exactly am I supposed to do that? Marriage is a serious matter. He'll have his own opinions about it."

A firm slap landed on the back of his head. Vanessa, clearly displeased, glared at him. "I dare you to say that again?"

Jack quickly raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright! I'll talk to him when I get a chance. No promises on the outcome, though.

"That's more like it."

Chapter 445

Felix drove out of the city at around 4:00 pm, heading toward Meadowspring

His original plan had been to leave Canraville and move on to the next location where another piece of the Dragonspine was hidden. However, Madam Spring's unexpected interference had thrown a wrench in his schedule. Hence, his current priority was to win over Xena.

To be fair, the enhancements brought by the Dragonspine had been almost addictive. Refining another piece, which would grant him large-scale sensory abilities, felt like an urgent need. Despite that, nothing was more important than staying alive. Meanwhile, in a house within Meadowspring, the young man who had begged Felix for help the night before sat dejectedly, watching his grandfather eat heartily.

"Grandpa," he began hesitantly, "I... I went behind your back and sought out the man who saved your life. He promised to come and rescue you."

The village chief, with his mouth full of food, shot his grandson a sharp look before swallowing. "You fool! Who told you to meddle? Do you think people go around being kind just for fun? He saved me once, which was why I set him free. Now that debt is settled. Why would he bother with our mess again?

"Do you think our village, as a branch of the Saphira family, is some kind of amusement park where people can come and go as they please?"

The young man was taken aback. "So... you're saying Felix won't come? That he lied to me? But... I don't think he's that kind of person. I'm sure he'll show up."

Just as he finished speaking, a loud voice boomed from outside. "Come out! Time's up!" According to Meadowspring's rules, condemned individuals were allowed a final meal with their family members before facing punishment. For many, this meal was often their last. "Listen, kid," the village chief said firmly. "Train hard in martial arts. Your bedridden mother still needs you to take care of her. Now get out of here!"

Calum Lewis was every bit a man of principle. Knowing full well that his death was imminent, he remained unflinching. His gaze was calm and unwavering, as if staring into the face of death held no power over him.
