When Felix returned to Canraville, Averill had already left. He woke up from a deep, satisfying nap at sunset.
Just then, Xena arrived at his house.
Felix asked, "Weren't you supposed to stay in Yartford for a few days?"
Xena's expression was grim as she explained, "We discovered traces of human trafficking in Canraville. Though we only found about a dozen children at the scene, headquarters takes these cases very seriously and wants a thorough investigation, so I came back immediately."
Felix feigned ignorance and responded with anger, "Human traffickers? Those bastards deserve to die."
Xena studied Felix's face carefully. "Are you sure you don't know anything about this?"
"Why would I know anything?" Felix asked, puzzled.
Xena leaned forward, noting that Felix's breathing and eyes remained steady. "The bodies showed evidence of acupuncture needles, and we can confirm they were tortured before death."
Felix's expression turned wry. "Just because acupuncture needles were involved, you suspect me? Should I provide an alibi for last night?"
Xena replied, "That's not what I meant. Whoever did this was well-prepared.
"The surveillance cameras within several blocks of the crime scene were destroyed, leaving us with no leads. I need you to take a look at the bodies and see if the marks give you any clues."
The surveillance footage had been handled by Flair at Felix's request. If Nancy's car had not been involved, such precautions would not have been necessary, but Felix could not risk having Nancy brought in for questioning.
"Sure. If you're asking, I won't refuse. Let's go, Felix agreed.
After examining the bodies at the Wolfie Troops' base, Felix offered Xena an apologetic smile. "Sorry that I couldn't be of much help."
Xena looked disappointed but nodded. Before they could leave, Alistair rushed over.
He reported, "Lady Summers, Martial Alliance just reported that Polaris was attacked by a mysterious person this morning. 16 people are dead, and the Supreme Elder of Polaris, Yates Jordan, is severely injured. They couldn't even see the attacker's face. Xena's expression darkened at this news. Even though Martial Alliance was already Chapter 619

news.
"Alistair, Felix is an outsider. Don't discuss sensitive information in front of him," Zena warned.
"Yes, ma'am!" Alistair responded.
Felix smirked but said nothing, leaving without protest. The Martial Alliance's approach did not surprise him-it was a calculated response. Sparing Yates and having Mira make an appearance had been enough to keep them cautious and quiet,
The world of martial orders was nothing like the structured, rule-bound society people imagined. Stability required layers of compromise and strategy, not just brute force.
As Felix replayed the earlier events in his mind, he thought back to the corpses he had " examined" earlier. Xena, Alistair, and the soldiers present had been visibly furious, their eyes blazing with hatred.
The heinous nature of a child trafficking case was enough to rile up anyone, but he wondered what their reaction would have been if they discovered Polaris' secret lab hidden deep in the forest. The mere thought might have driven them into an uncontrollable rage. The next day, in Yartford, the Crayden family estate was bustling with activity. The entire family had gathered in the courtyard, with nearly all direct members present.
"Axel, what's going on? I've never seen such a big gathering in my entire life," a young man said while standing on his tiptoes, trying to see what the elders were doing. Today's Bonus Offer
