Days later: Saturday

I’m well aware that the decision I’m about to make could lead directly to my death if something goes wrong, but between being without her and my son, or being dead, I prefer the latter. The golf course is pretty crowded and my father-in-law is chatting with a gentleman who I want to assume is who Mia’s uncle sent to distract him. I take off my glove, leave the golf club in its place, and walk away pretending to go inside the clubhouse to go to the bathroom until on the way I meet Mateo sitting on a bench, he makes a sign to me and I immediately follow him until we reach a golf cart that is guarded by a man with coppery hair -How is Mia? – I ask worriedly, but he doesn’t answer me, he just starts the cart and drives until we reach a sort of shed that is part of the golf club and goes inside.

-She’s fine and safe from Santiago’s son of a bitch,” he finally answers and I look at him worried.

-Did he hit her again? – I inquire with my heart pounding in panic.

-My brother forced her to go back to him, you know… business and stuff, but when that bastard found out that she was pregnant of another one he threatened her with a knife, he almost killed her, but luckily I arrived because I was going to talk to her about you and I hit that son of a bitch… obviously my brother broke all business relationship with him and now Santiago is in jail” He says and I can’t believe that she has been through all that shit.

-Is she okay? And the baby? – I ask nervously.

-The baby… is a girl” She answers me and a stupid smile appears on my face.

-A girl…” I murmur excitedly and I feel like running to her and k**s her with all this love I feel.

-Izan, I’ll be straight with you,” she begins to explain, “My niece explained to me how you met and how long you’ve been together, she insists that you’re different from the rest of your family and that you love her unconditionally,” Izan says.

-I love her with my life,” I interrupt him.

All right, I have nothing against you, my problem is your father and your father-in-law.

My father-in-law? – I ask.

Your father and your father-in-law are partners in a prostitution ring, they bring girls from Europe to put them to work in the casinos of other sons of bitches who with a little money use these girls as if they were an object for other assholes to satiate their instincts” He tells me and although I knew that my father was a mafioso and that he was involved in money laundering and illegal money lending; I never imagined it would get to that point.

-I know, your brother is the one who is involved in this with your father,” he tells me.

Get close to your father and your father-in-law, get me information, anything, and give it to me so that my colleagues and I can do our job. I promise you won’t get f****d up in all this, once we get all this shit done, I’ll take care of giving you, Mia and the baby a new identity and get you out of the country.

My niece is already in danger thanks to your escape, I have her guarded at all times in the house to prevent anyone from your family or your so-called wife’s family from going after her, so it’s your choice, do you help me or do I just take Mia out of the country with the baby and you never see her again? – He makes me choose.

Well, now one of my colleagues will take you to your father-in-law. Have this mobile phone to send me any kind of information, it’s encrypted, make sure no one sees or hears it, it has to be silent all the time and you can’t even go to the bathroom without it, you hear? One wrong move and we’re all f****d. – He explains as he hands me the mobile phone.

-I say as I get off the golf cart and before getting on the other one, I look at him, “Do you know if Mia has chosen a name for the baby yet? – I ask him and he smiles.

-She’s waiting for you to do it,” he replies and smiles.

-Thank you.” That’s all I can say to him.

-Don’t let me down,” he asks and I nod.

I assure him and without further ado I get into the cart to be taken to my father-in-law and start this mission where my only objective is to get my wife and daughter back.
