The next day

It’s barely six in the morning when I find myself in front of the door of my supposed father-in-law’s house with my theatre of a scorned man who went to a bar to drown his sorrows. I have no idea if Giovanna has told him the truth or not, but just in case I need my alibi. I ring the doorbell and a few minutes later it’s the housekeeper who opens the door and lets me in.

-Mr. Lorenzo will be with you in a moment,” she says and I just nod as I sit down on one of the sofas in this huge living room.

I look around me and every minute that goes by I feel more disgusted to know how all these luxuries have been paid for. I don’t understand how they can be like this… I think that my father wants to make me one of them and I want to cry, how can a father want this for his son? I think of my daughter and I think that I want to see her happy and that I would give anything for her to become a noble and good person.

-Izan, I thought you weren’t coming back,” I hear his voice and when I look up, I see him coming down the stairs.

-As you can see, here I am,” I reply, standing up and the uncertainty of not knowing what side of the story he has makes me very nervous.

He shortens the distance between the two of us when he stands in front of me, and brings one of his hands to my shoulder, “I don’t know what to tell you about my daughter…” He points out without taking his eyes off mine.

-I don’t know what Giovanna told you, but things between us are still the same, aren’t they? – I speak referring to business.

He smiles – She told me the truth, that she went one night with some friends to a bar and between all the alcohol she ended up with a man who was not you and that it was not known if you or he is the father of the baby – She explains – If it had been my wife, I do not know if I could have forgiven her, but this gesture speaks very well of you – She points out and I am trying to understand why Giovanna decided to expose herself in this way, but whatever the reason is, it is convenient for me that it is like this.

-We’ve both made mistakes in this relationship, I’d like to think that this mistake won’t bring any consequences” I lie.

-Of course, today is an important day for you. Come, let’s go to my office so I can give you the documents- He asks me and without further ado starts walking through the house until we get to what would be his home office and once we enter, he closes the door behind us.

We both take a seat, his on the other side of the desk and mine on one of the two chairs on this side. He pulls a folder out of a drawer and places it on the desk – What’s all that? – I ask, pretending to be oblivious.

-In here are the girls’ passports and their papers. Each of them must be given to the right buyer, and so that you don’t get confused, I’ll put them in an envelope with each name on it. In the envelope will also be the amount of money they have to give you and the address of the places. The transactions will start today at 11:00PM. – He explains.

-And how will I get them out of the casino hotel? – I ask.

-Do you remember where they arrived? – He questions me and I nod.

-That’s how they’ll get out. I’ll give you the keys to open the doors so you can do everything without any problems. This is your moment to show us what you’re made for, don’t fail me,” he asks me, but it sounds like a threat.

-I won’t.

-Perfect, and just in case, here…” He pulls a gun out of the drawer and slides it across the desk towards me.

-I don’t have a license,” I comment and he practically laughs in my face, “Don’t be so legalistic, have it and don’t hesitate to use it if you need to,” he explains and I have to play the brave guy.

-Okay- -All right-

-Now go, be with my daughter and rest, tonight will be a difficult night” He suggests and I nod.

-Thanks for the confidence Lorenzo,” I say and he smiles.

-I’m glad you want to be part of this,” he replies and with those words that disgust me so much, I say goodbye to him thinking that it’s getting closer and closer to end all this.
