Chapter 13

ALPHA KING JOSH'S POV "My King..."

Adam's annoying voice rang through my head. I groaned into my pillow, intending to block him out of my mind so I could sleep for another hour or two.

But he chimed, "Don't block me off, Alpha King, or else I will have to barge into your room and drag you off the bed."

My Beta threatened me, causing me to roll off the bed. I spent the entire night thinking about the rejection I suffered at the hands of a woman that had sneaked into my life and changed it without trying. Although that happened five days ago, I still haven't gotten over it.

I grunted, "Will it kill you if I sleep through the morning?"

Adam argued, "It might kill you and many others which might include me, My King. Your enemies are closer than you realize and I can tell you they are training day and night to end you and your supporters which we both know are limited in number, strength, and resources compared to the forces coming for you."

"He talks too much for someone who wants to train more."

Max complained, growling in my head...

I wished my wolf and my Beta would get out of my mind. I could have blocked them both and reminisced but I knew Adam was correct. My inactivity might cost the lives of so many.

"Our visit to the Western territory should be a motivation, My King. The warriors are waiting and if I don't see you and Eric on the field in five minutes, I will be coming to get you both." Adam added.

I chuckled, "Who is the Alpha King again?" my question didn't get a response. Adam made some weird incomprehensible sound and I practically rolled my eyes...

I rolled my eyes!

What the fudge!

My obsession with the female that rejected me five days ago must be affecting my masculinity.

"I wonder how she is doing. I always wonder why she chose to return to such a man."

Max said distastefully. We were on the same page. After seeing how Alpha Richard humiliated Rose five days ago, I was convinced that there was more to their union. I saw the exchange between them by peeping from my library window just like I have watched Adam do countless times.

I breathed, "Let's hope she stays out of my life. I have important issues to handle. I don't want to think about her or obsess over her anymore."

That sounded like a lie. Even to my ears.

"Hmm hmm. If you say so."

Max replied sarcastically. He could tell I was simply bluffing but I was determined to get my mind off the rosy female and focus on making my brothers understand that I wasn't a puppet.

I searched my mind and called on Eric, "Get your a*s out of bed and meet me on the training ground in two minutes."

Eric grunted but he knew better than to defy me. I left my mansion and jogged to the training grounds. It took me more than five minutes to get to my destination because I had to socialize with every wolf that greeted me on my way. Adam sighted me, "Greetings, Alpha King Josh. We have been expecting you."

Again, I rolled my eyes, ignoring My Beta. The hundreds of warriors that Adam and I have spent months training, gathered around me, greeting me.

"To begin today's training session, we will be working on our strength, agility, and speed." I announced. "Therefore, get in position warriors. We are running around the pack territory."

Although I could be difficult to train with, my warriors knew not to complain. The Royal Pack was created later than every other pack on the northern territory and ever since I took over, I have changed a lot of principles.

For instance, prior to my administration, female werewolves were not allowed to be warriors but I changed that and allowed my female subjects into a world that was dominated by men.

Max etched, "That's one of the reasons your brothers hate your guts."

I chuckled but started leading my warriors. Adam caught up to me and did his best to remain by my side as I picked up my pace.

"You can't shake me off, Alpha King. I am staying beside you today."

My Beta boasted and made a joke of Eric who was probably the last man behind.

"Greetings, My King, and Hello, Beta Adam." Nora, the most agile female warrior curtsied despite her fast pace.

She has blond hair and striking sea-blue eyes that made her the central attraction even during training sessions.

Adam hissed through the mindlink, "How is she able to keep up?"

"You are jealous... Tell me, do you feel threatened by a seventeen-year-old warrior?"

I replied after acknowledging Nora's greetings. Adam wasn't pleased when Nora and I raced passed him, leaving him in the third position in the race.

"Alpha King, I was wondering if you can give me the pleasure of working closely beside you."

Nora voiced, racing closely beside me as I neared the Pack borderline.

I chuckled, "You are already running closely beside me, Warrior Nora. That's quite impressive for a non-Royal Werewolf female, you know?"

Adam grunted as he tried to get back his position. I zoomed through the woods. Max was pushing me unusually but I enjoyed the race until Nora popped another question.

"Can I at least assist you from time to time, Alpha King?" My eyes caught her smile before I shifted my attention back to the path before me.

"I yearn to be more than I am at the moment, My King. This isn't the best time to come to you with this but I know I will never be able to face you any other time."

Nora added. She sounded like a young lady with dreams. Who was I to quench the fire of success within her?

"I will say she is dreaming of spending the rest of her life with you, Josh." Max chimed. "Just observe the look she is sending your way and you will be convinced she is after you... Not success."

I replied, "She is impressive. No woman has ever approached me despite my reputation but here she is regardless of her age."

It might not be a bad idea to keep Nora beside me forever.

However, I believed that my usual reaction to female touch might resurface again. Before Rose, there was no woman... And After Rose, I might live alone and never form a real bond with any woman. Well, I wasn't complaining.

Before I could respond to a persistent Nora, she was outrun by Adam who rubbed it in her face by saying, "Sorry but I have to be the only one beside him. Or do you want to be his Beta, girl?" Nora didn't seem to appreciate Adam's tone.

"Don't be mean, Adam. Don't ruin my reputation."

I scolded my Beta sarcastically. Of course, I used the mind link between him and me to keep Nora out of the conversation.

Adam snorted, "If she likes herself, she will stay away from you, My King. She might be young but she is definitely not too young to know that you have bad records with women."

"If I didn't know better, I would say you are jealous that she is paying attention to me. Are you also into her? Could she be your destined mate?"

I teased Adam but he snapped audibly, "Never!"

At that same moment, we took a sharp turn, racing along the borderline. Nora bumped into Adam and she lost her balance staggering down the hill on the other side of the border. "Watch it, man!"

I hissed and commanded the rest of the warriors to keep going while Adam and I go after Nora who was screaming as she rolled ed down the hill with little left and no control of her movement.

"For the strongest female warrior, she screams like a helpless child."

Adam commented as we crossed the border into a neutral ground of the northern territory. The neutral ground belonged to no specific pack but it was part of my territory. The hill around here was sloppy and harsh. "Perhaps I should push you with my stronger body and we can both see if you will scream louder than her or not."

I retorted, wondering why my Beta was acting up all of a sudden. What was with him and Nora?

Before I could get an answer to that question, I noticed that Nora had rolled out of sight while Adam and I were still far from the end of the sloppy hill.

"My King-"

"I smell death."

Adam and Max voiced at the same time, filling my mind with horror. I shifted my gaze to Adam and it was confirmed that he could also perceive that someone's life was ending or about to end.

All of a sudden Nora's ear-piercing scream stopped and was replaced by a horrific silence that spread the news of death.

Nora was dead?

Could she be dead?
