The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate -
Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 2
~Maxton~
I'm finally coming home today. I've been away for over two years. I had just turned 15 when I left and my 18th birthday is right around the corner. I haven't seen anyone from my family or my friends and I'm excited to be coming back.
I met a girl at alpha training. She's the older sister of one of the guys I bunked with. I don't think she's my mate, but I won't know for sure for a few weeks. But Jaclyn is fun to be with, so I enjoy her company. I'm bringing her back with me.
We just turned down the dirt road that leads to the front gates of the pack. I'm almost shaking with excitement. My parents, my younger brothers, and of course my best friends, Kaden and Devin. I hope their not too mad at me for not telling them sooner about my decision to promote them to beta and gamma when I take over. It's still two years away, but they need their training now too. I just can't wait to see everyone.
As we pass through the gates, a few of the warriors bow as we drive by. That's not something I'm used to. Before I left, the pack addressed me at Maxton. But now that I'm an adult with alpha training, I'll be addressed as Alpha. Even though I'm not technically in charge, it's a sign of respect. My fathers told me to expect that. But of course, to Kaden and Devin, I'll still be Max. Only they call me that. I never liked it when people outside of my friends called me that. My family still calls me Maxton, other than my little brothers, who always called me Maxy.
We finally pull up to the front of the pack house and my parents and brothers are standing there waiting for me. I turn off the car and get out. I smile at all of them and jog to my mother, Mercury, first. Yeah, I know. I'm kind of a momma's boy. We all are.
"Oh, sweetheart! You're finally home! Look at you! You've..." my mother pulls away from me and looks at my shoulders and arms, "grown. A lot." My mom laughs and I smile.
"Love, that was the point of sending him there. For him to bulk up and become a strong alpha." My father, Elliot says.
"Well, I can't even wrap my arms around him now and he was a skinny 15 year old boy when he left. Leave me alone." Mom says.
"Welcome home." My father, Arthur says. I look at both of my dads and hold out my hands. They shake them and pull me in. I just smile. I missed my family.
"Uh, you're forgetting something." I turn and Rhett, one of my little brothers, is staring at me, pointing to himself and his twin, Blake.
"I don't know what you mean. I saw you. I was just ignoring you." I say smugly, trying to hold back my smile.
"Cocky a*****e." Blake mutters. My eyes go wide before I see the tiny smirk he's trying to hide.
"That's it." I walk up to them and throw them both over my shoulders, ignoring their screams for help to our mother. "Mom can't help you. You guys are 13 now. Time to fight your own battles." I say to them. I hear someone clear their throat and turn to see Jaclyn standing my the car. Crap, I almost forgot she was here. I place my brothers down and glare at them.
"We'll finish this later." I say, pointing at them.
"I think I pissed myself." Rhett whispers and I chuckle before turning back to Jaclyn. I put my hand out for her to take.
"Guys, this is Jaclyn. I met her at training." I say to my parents. I can see on their faces they're confused as to why she's here. I can't find my mate till I'm 18.
"Hello, Jaclyn. Nice to meet you." My mother says first.
"Welcome." My father, Elliot says while Arthur stays quiet.
"It's so nice to be here and meet everyone. Maxton has told me so much about you guys." Jaclyn says with a smile. I can tell by my parents faces that they have questions but I know they'll wait till Jaclyn's not around.
My mom turns to one of the omegas standing by the door. "Can you show Jaclyn to one of the guest rooms? I'm sure her and Max want to get freshened up after that long drive." The omega nods and Jaclyn smiles at me before going with the omega. I turn back to my parents.
"You can go clean up and rest before we talk. But just so you're aware, she's giving me a very bad vibe. I don't like it." My mom says. She's a caster and since her power has matured with her, she can tell if a person is off by their aura. And it's never wrong. So this makes me worried.
"I'm sorry. Maybe I shouldn't have brought her." I say.
"Like I said, we'll talk later. Go to your room and rest. You just drove 12 hours." My mom says. I nod and kiss her cheek before heading up to my room. The packhouse hasn't changed since I left. It's good to be back.
When I get to my room, I notice the door slightly cracked open. I already know what's coming. I walk in as if I'm not suspecting anything, but turn around just as two bodies knock me down and pile on top of me.
"Crap, you guys got heavier. What the hell!" I yell out.
"You got huge man! Thought I ran into a f*g wall." Devin groans as he stands up.
"You're a d**k, you know that?" Kaden says, kneeling next to me.
"Yeah, I do. But why don't you tell me why you think so?" I say.
"You could've picked anyone else." Kaden says. Oh, s**t. We're getting right to it I guess. I sigh and look up at the ceiling.
"I don't trust anyone else like you two. Why would I pick someone else?" I ask.
"Um, maybe because the pack hates us and if it were up to them, they'd tie us down and inject
us with so much wolfsbane, we'd want to die. And then they'd kill us." Devin says.
"Jeez, you're so graphic." I roll my eyes.
"I only speak the truth, Max. This will never go over well with the pack." Devin says.
"It will be fine. I'll be Alpha and there's nothing they can do about it." I say.
"Why do you do this s**t to us, Max? You didn't even ask if we'd want the titles." Kaden says. I hadn't even thought of that.
"Do you guys not want them?" I ask.
"It's not that we don't want them. It's that the pack will give you a hard time about it. More about Kaden than me, but still." Devin says. This is true. Devin's dad, Daniel, used to be a rogue. He and another rogue, Caleb, worked for Garret, my grandfather. They joined with Caleb's mate, Ned. Who was in Henry's pack. Most of the pack accepted them when my dads swore them into the pack after helping save my mom, or should I say helped my dads find her only to get caught by the bad people and forced my mom to save everyone like a badass and still managed to save my dad Arthur from dying by a knife in the neck all while pregnant with me. But a few were still cold towards them in fear they might turn on us. And they've extended that treatment to Devin. As for Kaden, he was never accepted by anyone. My dads tried everything to get people to be nice to him and it got to the point where they had to threaten if people didn't stop physically hurting him, they'd be banished. I remember countless times we'd find Kaden beaten and bloodied so bad, we didn't think he'd make it. We were about 7 when this started happening. Old enough to know why they were doing it, but young enough to not be able to fight back. It was horrible. But we could never punish anyone because Kaden refused to tell us who was doing it.
"Guys, I promise everything will be okay. I'll have your backs as long as you have mine." I say to them. Devin and Kaden look at each other before nodding. They turn back to me.
"We'll always have your back." Devin says. Kaden holds out his hand for me to take.
"Welcome home, brother."
