The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate -
Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 5
~Kaden-
Max and I decided to take Devin into town for his birthday. It's not much, but Devin and I rarely leave the pack grounds because of how many people don't like us. It just causes a lot of staring, name-calling, and unwanted attention. So maybe this will be good for Devin. He's been talking about wanting to get some sort of computer that Ned told him about. I have no clue what it is, but Devin is really into it.
Ned's mate, Caleb, comes from the same rogue pack that Devin's dad, Daniel is from. Daniel and Caleb are really close friends and Devin grew up calling Caleb and Ned his uncles. He took a liking to them and their lifestyle. He always had questions about how they knew they were gay and what it was like to find each other. It always made me wonder if Devin might also be gay. He's never talked about liking anyone or mentioned anything really about a mate. All he's ever said was that he hopes if he does have a mate, they're from a different pack. He doesn't want someone who already hates him. I agree, but my mate hated me before she even knew who I was, so I guess sometimes s**t doesn't work out.
We're currently in the car headed to a restaurant for lunch. Feels weird being outside of the pack. But I can tell Devin is excited, so that's all that matters. We park the car in the small parking lot by the restaurant and head inside. The waitress is human, so she's nice to us. She sits us in a booth near the back. Max and Devin sit on one side while I sit across from them. The waitress takes our drink orders and tells us she'll be back. Devin and Max are talking about the computer Devin was looking at while I glance around the restaurant. I notice a group of people around our age from the pack in one of the big 8-person booths. They look like they're looking our way, whispering about us. Someone moves and I see Colin and Kody sitting with the group. Colin is giving me a death stare. He says something to Kody and he looks in my direction before laughing. Colin then says something to the group and most of them nod. Some of the people get up and let Colin and Kody out of the seats. I sigh as they start making their way over. I already know what's about to happen. I kick Devin under the table and motion with my eyes in the direction they are coming. Devin looks around the booth to see and sighs too.
"Perfect. Just who I wanted to see today." Devin mumbles. Max looks at me confused.
"Who's coming? The booth is too high to see over." Max says.
"Colin and Kody." Devin says. Max nods and pulls his hat down and looks at his phone. What is he doing? Does he not want them to see him?
"Well, look who finally decided to leave the pack. What's the occasion, boys? Who's your little friend?" Colin says, standing next to Devin while looking at Max in the shadows.
"None of your business." I say.
"Wow, snippy. Why are you being so rude, Anderson?" Kody says my last name with sarcasm. They've always told me I don't deserve the same last name as the alphas. They call me that just to mock me.
"Can't you just leave us alone? We're just trying to enjoy a meal. You don't have to come ruin everything for us." Devin says quietly. Colin's eyes go wide as he smirks.

"Standing up for yourself now, I see. That gamma title already get to your head, Devin?" Colin says leaning over Devin.
"Leave him alone. If that's what this is about, then f**k off and take it up with Alpha Maxton on your own time. It was his decision to give us the titles." I say to Colin.
"I think I might. He obviously doesn't realize how unqualified you two are. And how big of a mistake he'd be making having two traitors as his beta and gamma." Colin says.
"I don't see it that way." Max says. His head is still down, making it hard to see his face.
“What was that, a*****e? Wanna look me in the eye if you're going to talk to me that way?" Colin says.
"What kind of low-life would be hanging around these two anyway?" Kody says. I can't help but smirk at Devin, who is also fighting back a smile. They really don't know how badly they just screwed up.
"What the f**k are you two smiling about?" Colin says. I look up at him and lean back.
"Nothing. Just thinking about how stupid you guys are." I say.
"Excuse me?" Kody says, clearly getting angry.
"Well, I'm no expert, but I think calling the future alpha an a*****e and a low-life is a pretty stupid move." I say with a smile. Colin and Kody look at me confused. Max then lifts his head and takes off his hat. All the color drains from Colin and Kody's faces before they start apologizing to Max. Devin slides into the seat next to me to that Max can stand up. He towers over Colin and Kody. I've never seen Max like this and it's quite intimidating. I'd be scared if I were them.
"My fathers told me you two were dumber than a bag of rocks. Even your own parents told me. I didn't want to believe two people could be so stupid as to not realize that the only other person who is friends with Devin and Kaden is home and would obviously be with them. This is exactly why you two weren't chosen as beta and gamma. You are disrespectful and could never measure up to the loyalty these two have given me over the years. Now leave. Go home before I call your fathers to come drag your asses home for disrespecting not only your future alpha but future beta and gamma as well." Max says to them. They apologize again, bowing their heads low and running faster than I've ever seen them run. Max sits back down and leans back in the booth.
"Maxy's back." Devin says, smirking.
"Always sticking up for us." I say.
"Have they been like that the entire time I was gone?" Max asks.
"We got pretty good at avoiding them after the first few months. But yeah, whenever we did run into them, it was like that." I say.
"It was worse than that. They'd beat on us until we got bigger than them. Then they'd just resort to mean, hurtful words." Devin tells him.
"That's why we were homeschooled after you left. We'd come home covered in bruises. Elliot and Arthur eventually had enough and they took us out of school and hired a human tutor for us. Someone who didn't know us, so she wasn't biased when she was teaching us." I say.
"Stonding up for yourself now, I see. Thot gommo title olreody get to your heod, Devin?" Colin soys leoning over Devin.
"Leove him olone. If thot's whot this is obout, then f**k off ond toke it up with Alpho Moxton on your own time. It wos his decision to give us the titles." I soy to Colin.
"I think I might. He obviously doesn't reolize how unquolified you two ore. And how big of o mistoke he'd be moking hoving two troitors os his beto ond gommo." Colin soys.
"I don't see it thot woy." Mox soys. His heod is still down, moking it hord to see his foce.
"Whot wos thot, osshole? Wonno look me in the eye if you're going to tolk to me thot woy?" Colin soys.
"Whot kind of low-life would be honging oround these two onywoy?" Kody soys. I con't help but smirk ot Devin, who is olso fighting bock o smile. They reolly don't know how bodly they
just screwed up.
"Whot the f**k ore you two smiling obout?" Colin soys. I look up ot him ond leon bock.
"Nothing. Just thinking obout how stupid you guys ore." I soy.
"Excuse me?" Kody soys, cleorly getting ongry.
"Well, I'm no expert, but I think colling the future olpho on osshole ond o low-life is o pretty stupid move." I soy with o smile. Colin ond Kody look ot me confused. Mox then lifts his heod ond tokes off his hot. All the color droins from Colin ond Kody's foces before they stort opologizing to Mox. Devin slides into the seot next to me to thot Mox con stond up. He towers over Colin ond Kody. I've never seen Mox like this ond it's quite intimidoting. I'd be scored if I were them.
"My fothers told me you two were dumber thon o bog of rocks. Even your own porents told me. I didn't wont to believe two people could be so stupid os to not reolize thot the only other person who is friends with Devin ond Koden is home ond would obviously be with them. This is exoctly why you two weren't chosen os beto ond gommo. You ore disrespectful ond could never meosure up to the loyolty these two hove given me over the yeors. Now leove. Go home before I coll your fothers to come drog your osses home for disrespecting not only your future olpho but future beto ond gommo os well." Mox soys to them. They opologize ogoin, bowing their heods low ond running foster thon I've ever seen them run. Mox sits bock down ond
leons bock in the booth.
"Moxy's bock." Devin soys, smirking.
"Alwoys sticking up for us." I soy.
"Hove they been like thot the entire time I wos gone?" Mox osks.
"We got pretty good ot ovoiding them ofter the first few months. But yeoh, whenever we did
run into them, it wos like thot." I soy.
"It was worse thon thot. They'd beot on us until we got bigger thon them. Then they'd just resort to meon, hurtful words." Devin tells him.
"Thot's why we were homeschooled ofter you left. We'd come home covered in bruises. Elliot ond Arthur eventuolly hod enough ond they took us out of school ond hired o humon tutor for us. Someone who didn't know us, so she wosn't biosed when she wos teoching us." I soy. "Good thing it was only two years of that. Homeschool sucked. It felt harder than actual school, minus the bullies." Devin says.
"I'm sorry you guys had to go through that alone." Max says to us. "If I didn't have to go to that training camp, you know I would've been there for you. I just didn't have a choice."
"Don't apologize. We don't blame you." I say.
"Yeah. We blame your parents." Devin says. I elbow him in the ribs and Devin laughs." I'm
joking. We don't blame anyone. Going to training was for you to become the best alpha you can be. That's a good thing. And we survived. We got creative on how to avoid the bullies and now we rarely see them. We don't even train with them anymore cause they suck and have to still train with the younger teens."
"Yeah, we're fine. Nothing to be done now anyway. Let's just enjoy Devin's birthday and the fact that Max is still a baby." I say, laughing.
"Shut up." Max mutters. Devin and I laugh. The waitress comes back to take our order. When we
finish our food, we pay and leave. Max tells Devin we'll get him the computer he wants. Devin's eyes light up and he looks like a kid in a candy store when we get to the tech place. Devin is looking at everything and talking a mile a minute about all the stuff he likes. Max and I just watch him, laughing to ourselves.
"Guys, thank you for this. It means a lot." Devin tells us.
"Happy birthday, Dev." Max says and Devin smiles. We head back to the car to go home.
"Hey, I have a question for you guys." Devin says as we drive back. I turn to look at him.
"What's up?" I ask.
"Well, I'm 18 now. Which means I'll be able to find my mate. I've kind of suspected for a while now, but I'm almost positive my mate will be...a guy. Because I'm gay." Devin says. I take a second to take in what Devin just said. I look at Max and he seems shocked. I guess he would
be. He hasn't been around for two years like I have. I look back at Devin and he looks nervous.
I smile at him.
"Well, as long as you're happy, I'm happy." I say.
"Yeah, you're still family to us and we want you to be with who you want. I just didn't see this
coming, so I'm a little surprised." Max laughs nervously, staring out at the road as he drives.
Devin breathes a sigh of relief.
"I did. You just haven't been around." I say to Max.
"You knew?" Devin asks me.
"You think I'm blind? You're always with Ned and Caleb, asking about their relationship almost
as much as the tech Ned has. I kind of just pieced it together myself and waited for you to tell me instead of asking about it." I say, sitting back in my seat.
"I really did miss a lot. But thanks for telling us." Max says to Devin. We sit the rest of the car
ride in silence, in our own thoughts. I'm happy for Devin. This will make finding his mate easier, hopefully. I don't know anyone in our pack that is gay, other than Caleb and Ned, so maybe Devin's mate is somewhere else like he wanted. I just hope he gets a good one. He deserves it.
