The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate
Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 10

~Maxton~

I'm so fed up with tonight. While I was looking for Kaden, I had at least ten girls come up to me. Most likely the daughters of all the older alphas here. They probably all think I'm already 18 and want to see if I'm their mate. I guess none of them know my birthday is tomorrow.

After Devin and Kai leave, I'm left with a very angry Kaden. I have no idea what pissed him off so badly, but I need to figure it out. He's holding pretty tight to Aubrey. Maybe someone from her pack threatened her? No, this would be a different situation. Kaden's wolf wouldn't allow someone to threaten his mate and walk away unharmed. This must be personal. I need to talk to him.

"Hey, Kaden. Are you feeling better now?" I ask quietly, making sure not to piss him off more. "I'm fine. We'll talk later." Kaden grunts. Alright, so he's calm, but something definitely went down while he was gone. Something he doesn't want to say in front of Aubrey.

"Okay. Let's turn in for the night, then." I say. Kaden nods and takes Aubrey's hand. We start walking into the packhouse to go to our rooms.

As we're walking to the stairs, a girl bumps into me, causing her to fall. Oh great, please don't be another one trying to get close to me. I turn to help her up.

"Ow, watch where you're going." The girl says. This shocks me for a second. No one but Kaden and Devin talks to me like this. Even my parents talk to me with respect cause they know if they do, the pack will follow. I hold out my hand for her anyway. She takes it harshly.

"You bumped into me. And I'm of alpha rank." I say, helping her up.

"You're not officially alpha yet, Alpha Maxton. You're still just the son of the alphas. I am the daughter of an alpha, so that makes us the same rank. Get off your high horse." The girl says. She knows who I am. I can finally get a good look at her face. She has fair skin with light freckles on her face, green eyes with bits of gold in them, and fiery red hair that falls to her waist. She's...beautiful. She's so small, her big attitude caught me off guard. I kind of like it. I smirk to myself.

"What's so funny?" She asks.

"You're very loud for such a small person." I say. She glares at me. I smirk again. "I'm sorry. You obviously know who I am, but I'm afraid I don't know your name."

"Of course you don't. All you young alphas are the same. You don't care about anything other than taking over your pack and getting your d**k wet."

My eyes go wide. I hear someone laugh at the top of the stairs. I look up to see Kaden still standing there with Aubrey.

"Penny, that's not nice." Aubrey says with a smile on her face, trying to hold in her laugh.

"I only speak the truth." The girl who Aubrey called Penny says.

"That's, like, half-true for Max here. He's been too busy with taking over the pack to even think about the other thing." Kaden says. I glare up at him. I can't believe he just announced out loud that I'm a virgin. I give Kaden a death stare and he looks away from me. Penny chuckles next to me.

"Well, at least you got your priorities straight. I'd be concerned if it was the other way around." Penny turns and starts to walk away. "Watch where you're going, Alpha. I won't be so nice next time."

"You bumped into me!" I shout back and all she does is wave me off without even looking back. I throw my hands up in frustration and walk up the stairs.

"That girl is infuriating." I mumble.

"She does have a bit of an attitude problem, as her dad says." Aubrey laughs.

"You know her dad?" Kaden asks.

"Penelope is Alpha Wade's daughter. From Blue Ridge pack. Because our packs are very close together, the town close by has people from both packs working and we share a high school. That's where I met Penny. We've been good friends for a long time." Aubrey explains. Makes sense. Penelope. The name suits her. I'm not sure why she had such an effect on me, but I can't get her face out of my head.

We finally head to our rooms. Kaden says goodnight to Aubrey and kisses her at her door before we go to ours. I nod for Kaden to come to my room before we turn in for the night. Once inside, Kaden pulls off his shoes and flops down on my bed.

"Long night?" I ask.

"You have no idea." Kaden mumbles.

"Why don't you tell me what you didn't want Aubrey to hear." I say blankly. Kaden looks at me.

"Straight to the point, huh? Alright." Kaden groans as he sits up. "Well, when I was dancing with Aubrey, some man comes up to me. He's older, like in his 60's at least. I've never seen the guy before but he knew my name and asked to speak to me." Kaden shrugs before continuing. "I followed him into the packhouse to talk and he tells me his name is Jerald Godfrey of Black Creek pack."

"Black Creek? I've never heard of that pack before." I say.

"That's what I said. He then told me that the pack's name is new. They didn't have a name until recently. He told me he's Tonya's brother."

"Tonya, your birth mother?" I ask. What the hell?

"Yup. That'd be the one. He said over half of the rogue pack survived that day. Including Tonya's family. They escaped when Arthur was bleeding out because everyone was distracted. He said Arthur and Elliot lied about my last name. It's legally Godfrey-Anderson, but I don't think they knew that. They would have told me if they did, I know that for sure. I think they just assumed Garret gave me his last name only because Tonya was his mate. But Jerald said Tonya didn't even like Garret." Kaden says.

"Holy s**t. Half the pack?" I whisper. So what Andrew was saying about the rumour isn't just a rumour, it's true. Kaden nods his head. I think about his name for a moment. "My dads wouldn't keep your name a secret. They're not like that."

"I know. I never doubted them." Kaden says.

"This is crazy. Andrew was telling me there was a rumour about the rogue pack still existing, but I wasn't sure if I believed it." I turn and start pacing, thinking about everything he just said.

"I haven't even told you the craziest part." Kaden says. I turn back to look at him.

"What else is there?" I ask.

"Jerald is the alpha at the rogue pack, or Black Creek, whatever it's called. He took over because both Tonya and Garret died that day. But he promised the pack he'd bring back the true alpha. Me." Kaden says. My jaw drops and Kaden continues. "He asked me to leave Red River and train to be the alpha at Black Creek. He also said I can't have my fated mate, that he'd choose someone more suited to be Luna. He wants me to leave my brothers, leave you and Devin, Rhett and Blake, Mercury who is basically my mother, and Aubrey who I just found." Kaden breathes out, clearly frustrated.

"What did you tell him?" I ask a little worried. I can't tell if he's like this because he wants to and doesn't know how to tell me or if he's mad that this guy even suggested such a thing.

"I called him delusional and told him to go to hell." Kaden says. I breathe a sigh of relief.

"I was worried you wanted to go." I say.

"I'd never abandon my family. Yeah, the pack sucks sometimes, but you guys didn't treat me like s**t. You guys made me a part of your family. You're my brother, Max. And I'm your beta. I wouldn't turn my back on you." Kaden says. I walk over to him and pull his arm to stand up. He gives me a weird look before I hug him and he groans.

"I don't care if you don't want a hug, I'm f*g hugging you. You can't spout all that crap about family and expect me not to get emotional." I say.

"Well, quit it. Your emotions are getting all over me." Kaden jokes and we laugh. We sit back down and Kaden sighs. "Hey, by the way, where did Dev go? I didn't even see him leave."

"He left...with Kai." I smirk and look at Kaden as his face goes red.

"Oh. I see. Wanna switch rooms?" Kaden asks and I laugh.

"Nope, I'm good with using your room as a sound barrier." I say and Kaden scrunches up his

face.

"Ugh. I don't want to hear that. I don't even want to think about what's going where. Poor little Devin is going to be broken in half."

We look at each other before bursting out laughing. Kai is literally twice the size of Devin.

Devin has always been around average height for a human, but for wolves, he is quite short. He's barely 5'8 whereas Kaden and I are both around 6'5. Kai is not much shorter than us.

"Think he'll be marked in the morning?" Kaden asked.

"Oh, definitely. There's no way Kai won't mark him. He was all over Devin all night and is really possessive. Devin will be coming home a mated man." I say.

"Well, Kai will be useful in our pack. He's head warrior here and Austen's personal guard. Means he can be trusted." Kaden says as he stands. "I'm going to head bed."

"Alright. I want to leave before lunch tomorrow, so be ready." I say. Kaden nods and looks at his

watch.

"Happy birthday, man." Kaden says. I didn't even realize it was after midnight. It's been a crazy day. A lot of stuff happened.

"Thanks. We'll celebrate tomorrow." I say and Kaden nods, leaving the room. I sigh as I start getting ready for bed. I get all my clothes off so that I'm just in boxers as I climb into bed. I'm just about to close my eyes when I hear a light knock on my door. Who the hell would be knocking at this time? Devin and Kaden don't knock, so I know it's not them. I get up and walk to the door. As I get closer, I smell lavender and mint. I don't know where it's coming from, but

it's intoxicating.

I finally get to the door and the scent is so strong, that it's making my knees weak. I open to door and my wolf, Rosco, is going crazy in my head. It's dark, but I hear someone whisper.

"Mate."
