Chapter 7

ROSE'S POV

"This is actually your business. It doesn't matter if I am here or not."

I argued, muttering with a straight face.

Of course, Alpha Richard got angry. He raised his hand and slapped my face discreetly. He was a professional at abusing me. Even in a hall full of strong werewolves, he managed to slap me without attracting others' attention. "When I say you will stay, you'll have to stay. How can you always be a nuisance?"

He whispered angrily. He raised his hand again when he realized that I wasn't about to back down. I was uncomfortable. How was that so hard for him to understand? I wasn't asking him to come home with me, in fact. He could stay while I take my leave. What was the big deal about that?

I anticipated Alpha Richard's palm to connect with my cheek again but it didn't happen. When I raised my head, I found out that a masculine hand had caught Alpha Richard's hand before he could hit me.

Alpha Richard barked impolitely, "Which arrogant bastard dares to hold my hand!"

An unfamiliar voice shouted at Alpha Richard in the crowd, "Imprudent! Is Alpha King Josh Jones's house a place you can mess around and act arrogantly!"

My eyes found the speaker in the crowd but he wasn't the one holding Alpha Richard's hand. My eyes shifted to Alpha Richard's hand and I traced it to the one that had interfered to save my face from enduring another strike. "Alpha King Josh... It isn't what it looks like..."

Alpha Richard voiced. We both realized that Alpha King Josh was the one holding Alpha Richard's hand. Alpha Richard stuttered.

Alpha King Josh's cold dark eyes found mine before he spoke authoritatively, "Beating a woman is a sign of a weak man, Alpha Richard. You even had the audacity to hit a woman in public without feeling remorseful."

"I have always thought the Wrights of The Silver Moon Pack were well-mannered and capable of mighty achievement." Alpha King Josh seethed.

Alpha Richard began to tremble but he was able to say, "My family regulations have always been strict and I happen to be a short-tempered man like every other Alpha, My King. I lost control which is unusual and I ask to be forgiven." I snorted. Only a fool would believe that Alpha Richard lost control. Hitting me was his habit and hobby.

Alpha King Josh released Alpha Richard's hand, warning him to behave himself.

Alpha Richard nodded and quickly chimed, "Do you perhaps have time to speak, My King? I do not deserve to be in your presence. I would however appreciate your grace."

Although Silver Moon Pak was doing well, it was nothing compared to the Royal Pack of the northern territory. The Werewolf world was divided into five after the death of the first Alpha King- Alpha King Davis.

Alpha King Davis happened to have five strong sons and he understood that his sons would be at loggerheads for the throne if he didn't act smart so he divided the territory into five.

The Northern Territory used to be the less developed Territory until Alpha King Josh took his place two years ago and ever since then most Northerners have become stronger, rich, and outspoken... Except for Howling Wolves Pack, obviously. I wonder why this was so.

"There would be no need for that." Alpha King Josh responded uninterestedly, ruining Richard's plans to cling to him. Then he turned his face to me again and asked, "Who is she?"

Alpha Richard who has lost hope of winning the Alpha King's interest was happy when he was given a chance to show me off. "This is my mate, Alpha King. She is Rose."

He uttered that like I was some sort of trophy... I should be a worthy prize. Not some worthless trophy in the hands of a bastard.

"Mate?" Alpha King Josh was stunned. He looked at me coldly when it drew on him that I had been claimed by his subjects. Well, it's high time he knew.

At this point, I was no longer interested in socializing with the Alpha King or anyone else. I just wanted to leave. Perhaps I was ashamed of myself and I was avoiding the Alpha King. To him, I must be a slut now.

"If the introductions are over, I will like to leave."

I announced but Alpha Richard clasped my hand tightly, whispering, "What are you trying to do? Don't forget what I told you before we came here."

He was threatening me. He was a selfish prick who couldn't understand that I wasn't comfortable but he believed he had the fight to call me his mate and the right to introduce me as one.

It was saddening.

With sadness, I retorted, "You don know what you look like at the moment. You are acting like a pimp who can't survive without the influence of his mate's beauty."

Alpha Richard gritted his teeth furiously, "Rose, don't fuck with me... not here. I won't tolerate your nonsense."

Although he whispered, everyone with a brain and with functioning senses could tell that Alpha Richard and I weren't exactly the lovey-dovey kinds of mates. My eyes met with Alpha King Josh's gloomy ones. He seemed concerned as he whispered to two men beside him.

I heard him say, "I heard you started a new business, Alpha Richard. And I also heard you have been supporting many of the local packs in the territory."

My heart fell because my pack happened to be one of those local packs. The two men with Alpha King Josh also chimed in about how Alpha Richard's new business; which I knew nothing about; was growing and promising.

Alpha Richard was delighted that he was getting all the attention, "Yes, My King. I can't be selfish when it comes to helping others succeed. Whereas, coming up with new business ideas is how I and any other Alphas would be able to sustain the fame of the Northern territory. The days of wars and alliances might be behind us. It's time to make use of our brains and assets."

"And you are the real brain behind our advancement." Alpha Riahrd added. He was unbelievable.

Wars were knocking on our doors yet he thought wars were behind us.... He was mated to me through an alliance yet he could say alliances were behind us.

What an insolent man!

However, Alpha King Josh seemed to be interested in Richard's nonsense. He asked, "Why don't we meet in my office tomorrow and discuss the affairs of the territory? The far east of the northern territory seems to hold valuable materials." "That will be my pleasure, Alpha King. I will be there myself tomorrow-" Alpha Richard couldn't hide his excitement but the Alpha King had other plans.

"Don't come alone." Alpha King Josh cut in and looked at me. "Come with her."

Why would he want me there?

I hurriedly interject, "I know nothing about his business, Alpha King. I won't be attending."

"Then forget about the offer." Alpha King Josh announced. He was obviously not interested in working with Richard in the first place. I rolled my eyes but Alpha Richard was alarmed.

"She will be there, Alpha King." Alph Richard decided for me. "We both will be there to meet with you tomorrow. Thank you for the offer."

I couldn't believe my ears. Alpha King Josh nodded and left Richard and I. watch him attend to the other guests in his home and the party continued like he and I didn't have s*x in the bathroom. "Follow me!" Alpha Richard seethed.

Oh wow. So now we were leaving. At his own convenience.

The ride back to Alpha Rochard's pack and home was silent. There was a thick tension in the air between us as his driver drove us. I couldn't complain about the silence since I was enjoying it. After all, it was the calm before the storm.

The storm was released the moment we entered Alpha Richard's home... again, this place wasn't my home.

Surprisingly, I was the one that started the storm this time.

I faced him, demanding answers. "What do you mean by I will be there tomorrow? I don't have the right to make decisions anymore. How much more do I have to give up for you and for the damn alliance between us?"

I was shoved roughly against the wall by Alpha Richard and he growled, "If anyone is asking questions, then that would be me! So answer me, Rose. Why did Alpha King Josh demand your presence in a business affair? You know nothing about how to run a pack... even your father doesn't know much about that so why!"

He will always insult me... no matter what.

"What's the relationship between you and the Alpha King, Rose?"

Alpha Richard asked coldly and I smirked evilly because I wondered what would happen to his perfect world happen to his perfect world if I answered his question without hiding the truth.

Alpha Richard and I glared at each other and the answers to his question were just at the tip of my tongue... ready to be revealed.
