Fated to a Fae Chapter 10

The next day, after I showed Blake my magic, Blake was called by Alpha Max to his office while we were having an easy morning. I'm not sure what for, but he says it's urgent and rushes off after giving me a quick kiss. I'm left in the sitting room all by myself. I know my way around enough to get back to our bedroom, but I don't want to hide away just because Blake isn't around. If this is to be my new home, I need to start becoming comfortable. Blake has duties to attend to, being a warrior and the Alpha's brother, so I can't expect him to be by my side at all times. It's just not reasonable. So I will have to get used to this.

I haven't seen much of Reef since we got here. I saw him the first day when I saw he had been marked, and sometimes at mealtimes, but other than that, he's not around. Blake says Atlas is keeping Reef all to himself for awhile. I don't mind. I'm so happy for Reef and Atlas. They complete each other and I love to see my best friend so happy. I can't wait to have that for myself. With Blake. I've expressed that I want him to mark me, but he hasn't brought it up. I'm not sure what he's waiting for. I hope he doesn't think I want to wait. I showed him my magic yesterday and bared my body to him. It's the most intimate I've ever been with a man, and yet Blake still did nothing. Maybe I should just flat out tell him to do it. Because he seems to be missing all the hints I've been throwing at him.

I'm just putting a book back where Blake got it from when I hear someone enter the room. I turn to see Rhett standing in the entryway. I've some to find that although Blake and Rhett are identical twins, they have some differences. Blake has green eyes while Rhett has blue. Blake's clothes are brighter than Rhett's. Rhett seems to wear mostly black and dark grey. Blake has a variety of colours in his closet. Like today, he has a baby blue shirt on with grey slacks. He looked very handsome today. Rhett stands before me in black jeans, black boots and a black shirt tightly fitting to his body. He's much darker than his brother. And he watches me. I can feel it every time he's in a room with me.

"Where's Blake?" Rhett asks me.

"Max called for him. I thought you would have also been summoned." I tell him.

"Nope. I wasn't called. You all alone in here?" Rhett steps into the room, looking around.

"Yes. Why does that matter?" I ask.

"You know you were supposed to be my mate as well, right?" Rhett asks me. He's annoyed. I can feel it from my gift.

"Yes, I know that. But you chose Nicole before you met me." I say.

"I didn't know we'd find you in the fae village. How was I supposed to know that?" Rhett asks loudly.

"Listen, I don't know much about this mate bond yet, but what I do know is that some people wait a very long time before meeting their mate. Sometimes years. Your own fathers waited three years before your mother showed up. Those nice people, Ned and Caleb I met. Caleb waited four years before he met Ned and didn't know Ned was his mate until a few months in when Ned turned 18 in the hospital, all bloody and beaten. Silas told me he's known wolves that waited over ten years to find their mate. You waited a week. Seven days passed before you decided I wasn't worth the wait and you marked the girl you've been screwing around with." I say to him. Rhett steps towards me.

"Selenia, I-" He starts but I stop him.

"I'm not hurt or upset by it. I didn't know you before you marked her. You broke our bond before it even had a chance to begin, so I can't be upset at you. Besides, I have never been interested in marriage or anything like it. Blake woke something in me I didn't know existed. Having two of you might have been too overwhelming. I'm glad it's just Blake." I say. Rhett looks down at the ground. I can feel the hurt coming off of him. With a hint of something else. Feels off.

"It's a little upsetting to hear you say that. We could've been good together. But I guess we'll never have that." Rhett says.

"And whose fault is that?" I cross my arms. I don't like how he's trying to make me feel guilty.

"Mine. I know that. I shouldn't have marked Nicole. It was stupid of me to jump the gun like that. I wish I could take it back. But I can't now. Not unless Nicole dies." Rhett says, stepping closer to me.

"Rhett, I understand you're feeling a lot of emotion right now, but Nicole is your mate now. Saying such things about her isn't right. You and I won't happen. You can't be doing this." I tell him, stepping back as he gets closer.

"You were supposed to be mine. And now my brother is keeping you for himself." Rhett says darkly. My back hits the bookshelf with a thud. Crap, I'm trapped here.Rhett steps into me closely. I put my hands up to hold him away from me and his chest hits my hands. This is wrong. Nothing about this feels right and he needs to back away.

"Rhett, stop. You're making me uncomfortable. Please back up." I say sternly, trying to ignore my racing heart. Rhett grabs my wrists. I try to twist my arms out of his grasp, but he tightens his grip, almost painfully.

"I can't feel s**t. I'm supposed to feel the sparks of the mate bond." Rhett says. "You have a mate. And she isn't me. Why would you feel them with me?" I ask, starting to get scared. Rhet steps in closer, his chest on mine. He leans his head in and I turn my face away. He growls and puts both of my wrists into one hand and grabs my face with the other. I feel a tear fall down my cheek as I close my eyes. His lips hit mine harshly and I feel the bile creep up my throat. I try yo pull away, but he's too strong and has me trapped against the wall.

"Selenia?" I hear a voice. One I recognize. Rhett pulls away and turns to look at who has called my name. My eyes lock with Reef's and I see the confusion written on his face. He looks at my tears and then at Rhett. "You're not Blake. What are you doing to her? Let her go."

"This isn't any of your business. Leave us alone." Rhett says before turning back to me. I hear steps across the floor and Reef grabs Rhett's arm, pulling him away from me. Rhett releases my wrists, but an angry growl comes from him as he turns on Reef. Rhett grips Reef's neck, lifting into the air. A sob escapes my throat as watch my best friend go red in the face from the lack of

oxegyen.

"Rhett! Stop it! You're hurting him!" I scream at him. I grab his arm and try to get him to put Reef down, but it does nothing. He's much bigger than me and I'm weak compared to him. Suddenly, someone grabs me and moves me away from Rhett. I turn back to look at who it is just as Atlas punches Rhett right in the head. Hard. I hear the crack of bones and I can't tell if it's from Rhett's face or Atlas's hand, but Rhett drops Reef. I rush over and drop to my knees beside him. Reef is gasping for air, his neck is already starting to bruise.

"Oh my goodness! Reef! Are you okay?" I panic, watching him struggle to breathe. I look up at Atlas and he looks pissed. He goes to punch an already knocked out Rhett when I stop him. "Atlas! Rhett is not important right now! There's something wrong with Reef. I don't think he can breathe. I think Rhett crushed his airway!"

Atlas quickly turns to us and drops down next to Reef's head. Reef looks up at him with a terrified expression, his breaths short and strained.

"s**t! No, baby. You can't do this to me already. I just got you! I need to take you to the clinic. I'm going to lift you up. Okay?" Atlas says to Reef, and Reef manages to nod. Atlas lifts Reef into his arms and stands. We turn to the entry way as two people come around the corner. Kaden and Devin, the Beta and Gamma of the pack. Their smiles drop as they look around the room.

"What the f**k happened in here?" Devin asks first. Atlas wastes no time and breaks into a run out of the room with Reef in his arms. I go to follow, but Atlas is too quick and he disappears before I can catch up. Kaden turns to me.

"Mind telling us what the f**k just happened? Why is my brother out cold on the floor? I thought you two were okay." Kaden asks.

"That's not Blake. Blake is with Alpha Max." I let out a sob and Devin brings me into his arms.

"Shh, it's okay. Did Rhett do something to you?" Devin asks as he pets my hair. "Rhett showed up while I was alone in here. He started going on about how he regretted marking Nicole and when I told him to stop and leave me alone, he got angry and forcefully kissed me while restraining my hands. Reef walked in on it and tried to stop him. Rhett started choking Reef and I think he crushed his neck. Atlas punched Rhett in the face when he saw what he was doing. Atlas took Reef to the clinic because he couldn't breathe." I explain to them as my body starts to shake.

"F**k." Kaden says under his breath. "Mind-link Max and Blake. Take Selenia to them. I'll deal with this piece of shit." Kaden says to Devin as he points to Rhett, still lying on the ground passed out. Devin nods and we turn out of the room. We walk down the hall to the main area of the house. We stop at the bottom of the stairs just as I see Blake and Alpha Max racing down the opposite hall. As soon as I see Blake, I pull away from Devin and run to him. I rush into his arm as he holds me tightly.

"What happened? What did Rhett do? Did he hurt you?" Blake demands as I sob into his chest.

"He hurt Reef. I don't think he's okay." I say.

"Are your wrists okay?" Devin asks, coming up next to Alpha Max. Blake gently takes my hands and inspects my wrists. They're red and starting to bruise.

"I'm going to f*g kill him." Blake breathes out. Alpha Max puts his hand on Blake's shoulder.

"He will be dealt with." Alpha Max says. Blake turns towards him angrily.

"He hurt two people. One is in the hospital. Don't go easy on him just because he's our

brother." Blake says.

"I won't go easy on him. I'm going to let dad deal with him." Max says. Blake and Alpha Max share a look before Alpha Max nods. Devin blows out a breath.

"Jeez. Glad I'm not Rhett. Arthur is going to rip him a new one." Devin mumbles.

"Your father Arthur?" I ask.

"Yes. He was always the strict parent. Scary as s**t. And you never want to piss him off. This will definitely piss him off." Alpha Max says to me. I nod and turn back to Blake.

"I want to go see Reef. I need to make sure he's okay." I say and Blake nods. He takes me away from where Alpha Max and Devin were standing and we leave the packhouse. We start walking down a path in complete silence. I feel how angry he is.

A small building comes into view and we head towards it. When we walk inside, there are lots of machines and some people walking around. Blake holds my hand as we walk down the hall

towards a desk with a girl sitting behind it. She smiles up at Blake.

"Hello, Blake. Are you here for Atlas?" The girl asks Blake.

"Yes. Can you tell me what room his mate, Reef, is in?" Blake says.

"He's currently in the operating room. Dr. Suzi is fixing his throat. It was severely crushed and being a fae, he doesn't heal like we do. But Atlas is waiting outside of the operating room." The girl says.

"Thanks, Amanda." Blake says and he pulls me towards the hallway. We walk down the hall and turn a few corners before I see Atlas sitting in a chair, hunched over with his head in his hands.

Blake goes right up to him. Atlas looks up at us and stands slowly.

"He almost killed Reef." Atlas says in a low voice to Blake.

"I heard." Blake says.

"He's dead." Atlas growls.

"Max is giving him to Arthur to deal with." Blake says. Atlas raises his eyebrows.

"He's going to be one sorry son of a b***h once Arthur gets wind of this." Atlas says, sinking

back into his seat.

"How's Reef?" I ask.

"Doc said he was badly hurt, but she can fix his airway. She said it's going to be a rough

recovery and she doesn't know if he'll be able to talk again. His vocal cords might be permanently damaged." Atlas says, sighing. I gasp.

"Reef may never speak again? When will we know?" I ask.

"Doc said only time will tell. We won't know until he tries them out after his throat is done

healing. And because he's not a werewolf, he won't heal quickly. He will heal like a human would. Slowly and painfully." Atlas says.

"I'll ask my mom to come by later. I'm sure she'd be happy to see if she can speed up his

healing." Blake says.

"Your mom can heal people?" I ask.

"Yes, but it's very draining on her. She can only do one person at a time for a short amount of

time and she usually needs about a day to recover from it. Silas can do it much easier, but he's

not here and we have no way of calling him back. He comes and goes when he wants." Blake explains. "I'm so sorry this happened, Atlas. Reef was only trying to protect me." I say. "Don't you dare apologize. Rhett had no business cornering you and attacking you. I wasn't far

behind Reef and I heard everything even before I came into the room. This is not your fault.

This is completely on Rhett." Atlas says to me and I nod. He looks down at my wrists. "You should have one of the nurses look at those. That looks painful."

Blake moves me to sit in a chair beside Atlas before he turns and walks back down the hall. He returns moments later with the same girl from behind the desk.

"Selenia, this is Amanda. She is Dr. Suzi's best nurse. She's going to look at your wrists to make sure you're okay." Blake says. I stand and Amanda shows me to a room. As I sit on the bed, Blake closes the door and turns back to me. There's something wrong with him. He's not acting like his usual self. I know he's upset, but he's acting distant. Like he doesn't want to come near me. I don't like it. Does he think there's something wrong with me because of what Rhett did? Is he having second thoughts about us? I need to figure out what's going on. And I need to do it

soon.
