The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate -
Fated to a Fae Chapter 22
~Selenia~
The twins came back shortly after, claiming to feel that I was crying. Jereth seemed upset, but I think they just got off on the wrong foot. The twins are glaring at Jereth and Jereth is doing the
same.
"Are we done here?" Rhett asks me. I look at him. He looks annoyed.
"Okay, this isn't going to work." I say. All three of them look at me.
"What's not, love?" Blake asks me.
"This. You three hating each other." I say.
"I don't hate them. They just locked me up." Jereth says while glaring at Rhett. Rhett glares back.
"Oh, don't worry. We don't like you. Just yesterday you were trying to kidnap Selenia." Rhett says.
"I wasn't trying to kidnap her. Sear was. I wanted her to come willingly. And I never agreed to what he did to your brother." Jereth says.
"You are Sear's second in command. You are just an extension of him." Rhett says. Jereth rolls
his eyes.
"That's ridiculous. I'm my own person and Sear does whatever he wants, even without
discussing it with me beforehand. You saying he and I are the same is like saying your brothers Max and Kaden are the same." Jereth snaps back.
"That's different." Blake says.
"How so? Haven't they ever done things separately that could be questionable? Did you ever blame one for something the other did? What about you two? I know all about the curse Rhett had and how he treated Selenia while he was under. Does she blame Blake for what Rhett did just because you are brothers?" Jereth says. The twins stop and look at Jereth with a questioning look.
"How...how did you know about the curse?" Blake asks.
"I told you. That Nicole girl is at our compound. She's the one that gave Rhett the curse. She told Sear all about it." Jereth says.
"What else can you tell us about Nicole?" Rhett asks him. Jereth narrows his eyes.
"I've already said a lot. You think I'm going to tell you more and risk Sear killing me? Cause he
will once he knows I've betrayed him. He was already pissed at me before we came here."
"Why was he angry with you?" I ask my brother. His eyes soften as he looks at me.
"Because of you." Jereth says.
"Why me?"
"When Sear asked me if he was okay with him marrying you, I said I was fine with it because it meant you would be allowed to come live in our compound. He didn't want you joining unless you were going to marry him. He wanted your gift. He wants to use it. So I told him I was fine with it. But then we found out you left with a werewolf and that he claimed you as a mate. As soon as we got home, I researched what that meant and knew you'd never marry Sear after that. I told him the only way to convince you to come back with us is to get to you before you bonded with the werewolf. But he kept waiting and then Nicole showed up. Nicole told Sear you were marked by the werewolf and I told Sear we were too late. He claimed there was still time and I told him I didn't want to make you unhappy by barging into your life to take you away from someone you love. Sear lashed out, asking me if I was going against him and I backed down. He got into my head about how you'd want to be with me, your actual family, over them. I started to believe it myself. Then Sear started telling the warriors to get you at any cost. Even if it meant wiping out the pack. He didn't realize the warlock was so powerful to protect the pack the way he is. And Sear told me that if he strikes, I better follow. And I didn't."
"You mean when Sear attacked Max?" I ask.
"Yeah. Sear was seething when that other Earth Fae restrained us. He thinks that if I had attacked as well, the warlock would not have been able to move the Alpha out of the way and the pack would be without a leader." Jereth says.
"Well, that's not true. Even if Sear had successfully killed me, the pack would not be without a leader." A voice comes from behind us. We all turn to see Max and Kaden standing outside the cell. Kaden is glaring at the twins.
"Why is everyone in the cell with the prisoner?" Kaden asks.
"That's my fault. I wanted to speak with my brother and he told me he wouldn't hurt me." I say.
"And you just trusted that?" Kaden asks and Max slaps him on the shoulder. Kaden rubs where he was hit. "Ow. What the hell?"
"Her gift would have told her if he was lying or not." Max says.
"Oh, right. That gift is pretty cool. It's what we came down here for." Kaden says.
"You need me for something?" I ask.
"What are you guys doing?" Blake asks.
"We were going to talk to Aiden. We'll have even more to talk about now since Jereth just told us it was Nicole who was feeding information to Sear." Max says.
"Wait, Aiden Miller?" Jereth asks. We all look at him.
"How do you know his name?" Kaden asks him.
"Sear said Nicole had some sort of contact still in the pack that was giving her updated info every day. That's how we knew when Rhett came out of his coma even after Nicole had fled your pack. Nicole said it was some boyfriend named Aiden Miller." Jereth says.
"Perfect. So now we know what Aiden has been up to." Kaden says.
"I guess there's no real point in talking to Aiden now." Max says with a sigh.
"Why not?" Blake asks.
"Well, we know Nicole put the curse on Rhett. We know where she is. We know who was updating her. We know Oscar wasn't helping. The only thing we don't know is why and Aiden might not even know that. Unless you do." Max nods to Jereth. Jereth sighs.
"At this rate, I'm never going to be able to go home." Jereth mutters, "Nicole was angry at Rhett for not choosing her as his mate. She wanted some sort of status and according to her, 'all the higher ranked guys are taken"".
"Ew. I wouldn't have touched her even if I didn't have a mate." Kaden says.
"You were a virgin when you met Aubrey and you'd probably still be one without her." Blake
says, amused.
"You're one to talk. You were a virgin too." Max says to Blake. Blakes eyes go wide and Rhett
laughs.
"Shut up, man-whore." Blake says to Rhett.
"Whatever. You were just jealous, you prude." Rhett says and I clear my throat. Max and Kaden try to hold back their laughs as Blake and Rhett look at me with pale faces.
"I'm sorry. Did you just forget I was in the room? Or did you want me to leave so you could keep talking about how many girls you screwed before me?" I say to Rhett. He takes a step towards
me, but I stop him.
"Baby, I didn't mean it that way." Rhett says.
"Don't. I don't want to hear it. Also, I think it's sweet that Blake and your brothers waited." I say
and Rhett pouts.
"I'm sorry. If I could take it back, I would." Rhett says.
"Mhm. Sure you would." I tease as I walk past him. I walk up to Max, knowing he has the final say. "I used my gift on Jereth. Everything he has told us so far has been truthful. He feels bad about betraying Sear, but he feels his loyalty to me more. Is there any way we don't have to keep him in the cell?"
Max sighs and looks up at Jereth. "I'm just curious. Selenia has a gift. Does that mean you have one as well?"
We all look over to Jereth. I hadn't even thought to ask him. It is likely he has one too, since we have to same parents.
Jereth shifts his eyes from Max to me. "I guess I can't lie even if I wanted to. Yes, I have a gift
too."
"What is it?" Blake asks.
"It's kind of like mind-reading, I guess." Jereth says.
"Are you serious? Have you been using it this whole time?" Rhett asks angrily.
"No, I haven't. I have to be making physical contact for it to work." Jereth says. Max looks at me
and I nod.
"So, you can hear what a person is thinking?" Kaden asks.
"Maybe mind-reading was a bad explanation. If I make contact with someone, I can search
their memories, but I can't hear their thought. So I can hold your hand and see what you had for breakfast this morning. And I can show people my memories. And I can't alter them. I've tried to project my own things and it doesn't work. My projections of memories are always of what actually happened." Jereth explains.
"That can be useful. Are you willing to help us? Or is your intention still to take Selenia back to your compound?" Max asks. Jereth looks at me.
"I won't take her against her will. That's not what I came to do. Besides, after today, pretty sure I no longer have a place in Sear's compound. I don't know where you guys put him, but if he can hear me, he knows I've betrayed him already. And if he doesn't know, he will soon." Jereth
says.
"Well, you can be useful to us. You can help us deal with Sear and Nicole and this caster that Nicole apparently has helping her. You can continue seeing Selenia as you please. You can have a room in my packhouse. But you will be under strict supervision until I say so. You will wear those cuffs until I can trust you and I tell Silas to remove them myself. He will not remove them unless I give the order. If you can prove you can be helpful and can be trustworthy, I will allow you to stay in this pack to be with your sister. You won't have to return to Sear's compound to face whatever fate awaits you there." Max says. My chest swells with hope as Jereth thinks about what Max just said.
"You'd let me stay? Even though Sear has a reputation and I'm his second in command? Your
brothers seem to think I'm guilty by association." Jereth says. Max shoots the twins a look before looking back at Jereth.
"When we met Silas, he was working with the people who were against us. He helped bad
people kidnap Kaden's mate and these two twins here. We had every reason to believe he was dangerous and not to be trusted. But he came to us after finding out the guys he worked with were bad and he pledged his loyalty to me and my fathers and saved Rhett's life. We didn't have anyone with your sister's gift back then, so we just had to blindly trust him. Now he is a valued member of our pack and protects us without a second thought." Max tells Jereth. "My point is, sometimes people do bad things. Doesn't make them bad people. You just have to prove yourself to the people that matter."
"Okay. I'll do it then. I'll prove to you I can be helpful. I just want to be with my sister. Even if that means turning my back on Sear." Jereth says and I feel the tears run down my face. "This means you two have to try and get along with Jereth. He's your brother-in-law now, for f**k's sake. Play nice." Max says, pointing at the twins. I giggle at their grumpy faces.
"I didn't even think of it that way." Rhett mutters.
"Me neither." Blake says under his breath.
"Selenia, if you want to bring Jereth upstairs, I'll have Devin meet you in the guest wing to show
Jereth to a room. Just let Devin know of anything Jereth might need. Clothes, toiletries. Anything." Kaden says before he turns and follows Max back down the hallway. I turn back to
Jereth.
"I can't believe you agreed to stay." I smile at him and he smiles back. "Anything for you, baby sister. We're family." Jereth says. I reach out my hand and he takes it. Blake goes ahead of us and Rhett falls behind as usual and we make our way out of the
dungeons.
