The Unshackled Queen: Never Say Never -
Chapter 1986
Maloney shook his head.
“It’s not that it’s hard to answer, but rather that it’s not necessary to answer.”
Hearing his response, Peterson raised an eyebrow and asked, “Why not?”
“If I didn’t like her, why would I agree to a marriage alliance with the Compton family?”
“There are many reasons.”
Shrugging, Peterson said nonchalantly, “If the Compton and Pierce families ally, your influence will only increase.
It’s advantageous for both sides.
Besides, it’s just a marriage alliance.
Every prominent family engages in these kinds of alliances publicly while pursuing their own interests behind the scenes.
Mr.
Pierce, you are not being sincere with me.”
Maloney, driving ahead, allowed a hint of a smile to play at the corner of his mouth.
“What you said is true, but I can assure you that I am sincere with her.”
“Okay.”
Noting Peterson’s disbelief, Maloney added, “I’m actually a bit curious myself.
Why did you ask this question?”
After a brief silence, Peterson smiled and replied, “I think I might have feelings for her.”
Maloney glanced at Peterson through the rearview mirror, his surprise evident.
“Who are you talking about?”
“Of course, I’m talking about Hannah.”
The car fell silent for a moment before Maloney finally spoke.
Maloney was a bit taken aback by Peterson’s unhesitant candor.
“I’m his fiance, and you don’t feel the slightest bit guilty for saying this in front of me?”
Peterson blinked and replied, “Why should I feel guilty? I Like Hannah, and I don’t want to hide my feelings for her.”
After saying that, Peterson looked at Maloney intently.
“Besides, she’s only your nominal fiancee.
As long as she doesn’t marry you, I have every right to pursue her.”
Maloney couldn’t refute this, but he realized that the one who should be concerned now wasn’t him, but Bryson, who was far away in Cadilind.
If he had known that Hannah was already being pursued as soon as she went abroad, he would have likely flown over, had he not been occupied with affairs in Cadilind.
Reflecting on this, Maloney’s lips curled into a faint smile, as if he were enjoying a particularly captivating drama unfolding before him.
From the back seat, Peterson noticed the smile playing on Maloney’s lips through the rearview mirror.
He couldn’t help but feel that Maloney was mocking him.
“I may be younger than you, but that doesn’t mean I lack capability.
I’m telling you this because I want to play fair.”
Maloney nodded.
“Alright, fair competition is fine.
Welcome to the challenge.
If you can truly win her heart, then you’ve earned it.”
Peterson added, “But remember, you can’t tell Hannah what I’ve shared with you today.”
Maloney chuckled, finding the situation a bit amusing.
“Why can’t I tell her? Didn’t you just say you’re open and honest, and not afraid of anything?”
