Noticing the look on her face, Caden asked, “Are you working late tonight?”

Hoping to speed things up, Alicia answered calmly, “No.”

“Is Blake at the same hotel as you?”

“Yeah.”

“Is your room close to his?”

Caden leaned in, his voice soft as he continued, “Just be honest with me, and I’ll let you go back sooner.”

Alicia suddenly went quiet.

Her heart tightened again, just as she had started to relax.

She had a feeling Caden wouldn’t let her off that easily.

“No, we’re two floors apart,” she said calmly.

Caden teased, “Aren’t you counting on him to protect you? If something happens, do you really think he can make it in time from two floors away?”

Alicia shrugged.

“Oh, then I’ll just switch to the room next to his tonight.”

Caden’s smile faded.

His gaze softened as he looked at her.

“Are you still upset after all this time?”

Alicia tried to turn away.

“I need to go.”

But Caden pulled her close, their chests nearly touching.

When she glanced up, his warm breath brushed against her cheek.

There was a spark in his eyes.

Caden’s voice was low and rough.

“Stop teasing me, okay?”

Alicia’s eyelashes fluttered, and her chest felt tight, like it was being gently squeezed.

She felt weak and exposed.

Caden’s dry lips brushed against her cheek, slowly making their way to her lips, but Alicia turned her face away.

Caden took a deep breath, gently rubbing her back and waist.

His voice was filled with longing and softness.

“Can you just stop being angry?”

Alicia could sense that he was holding back.

A man who was used to getting his way didn’t know how to treat a woman.

After months of holding it all in, this was all he had left.

Alicia couldn’t find the words.

Caden tried to coax her.

“Hey, Lucky, look at me.”

Alicia whispered, “Caden, do you really understand what you did?”

Caden was quiet for a moment before answering, “Yeah.”

“Are you really sorry?”

Having gone through this before, Caden was more sure of himself and said, “Absolutely.”

Alicia finally asked what had been on her mind.

“Are you just after my body?”

Caden shook his head.

“No.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah, trust me.”

Alicia sharply glanced up at him.

“You sound so sincere, but you’re kind of pressed up against me.”
