Lucas

POV:

I must say, yesterday was quite a rollercoaster ride of emotions. When I heard my pup's heartbeat, I was at a loss for words-my pup. Is this how my father felt when he knew my mother was pregnant with me? Oh, if only they could see this for themselves. We're going to have pups! With unbridled enthusiasm, Kali uttered a loud exclamation upon hearing the news.

Yes, we are!

We will explore the lush woods and feel the exhilarating rush of rolling on the soft, green grass!

The pup has not even been born yet, Kali.

What's wrong with making plans already? Before you know it, two to three months will have passed by in the blink of an eye, you know!

I get it. I am also excited! A lot has to be prepared.

Today, I plan to inform the council about Cory's pregnancy.

I am on my way to the palace for a meeting with the council. As soon as I stepped in, chaos ensued among the crowd. They all stopped when I made my presence known to all of them. "What is going on?!" The sound of my growl reverberated throughout the entire hall.

"Your Majesty!" Everyone bowed in respect.

I made my way to the center of the room where the throne was. The room was silent as all eyes turned towards me, waiting for me to settle into my seat before anyone dared to speak. "Care to explain what was going on before I came in?"

"Your Majesty, we received multiple alerts from different packs about rogue attacks. The pattern from the last two attacks was very similar." Sir Kingston informed me.

This is very alarming. I turned to Silas,

"Send out additional

fighters to help. ASAP! And keep a bird's eye view of them." Silas nodded and went out to inform the army.

"Why is this happening? Rogues have been stagnant for a couple of years, but now they are starting a war!" one of the council members exclaimed.

"And what pattern you are talking about, Sir Kingston?"

"A group of rogues recently attacked the Moon Walker and Nightshade pack. Well, it's more like an ambush. It all started when a pack member, mostly men, was lured to the scene using their mate's scents or even covering their own." Sir Kingston briefed the entire council.

"As Sir Kingston said, we are investigating this matter. What we have suspected so far is that whoever is the culprit behind these attacks is working with a witch- an expert in potions." "Where are we in the investigation?"

"We have names already. The team is currently tracking and looking for those with connections."

Shortly after that, we concluded the meeting. Our main focus right now is to address the attacks. Unfortunately, we will be delaying the announcement for the time being. The timing was not in my favor today. As I was getting ready to depart, Sir Hendrix made his way over to me. I thought everyone had left already.

"Sir Hendrix."

"Your Majesty, I forgot to say this, but congratulations! I heard that your mate is expecting."

"Thank you! How did you know?"

"There are tattletales all over." He laughed as he said. "Well, I will be on my way now. I just want to be the first to congratulate you out of the council members to congratulate you. Be careful now!"

The words he spoke before departing this world sent chills down my back. His regards were seethed with darkness. As soon as I arrived at the chateau, I made a beeline for the dining hall, fully confident that Cory would be there waiting for me. "Lucas! You're back! Come and sit with me."

Earlier in the day, she had some morning sickness but felt quite cheerful and lively this afternoon. Doctor Miranda told us it is normal for Cory to feel nauseous every morning

"So, what are you eating?" As I sat next to her, my eyes couldn't help but wander towards the dish she had in front of her.

"Fries and ice cream. It's good!"

"Fries and ice cream together? Hmm." I looked at her and the food in front of her skeptically. I must admit, this combination is quite unfamiliar to me.

"Yes! You dip the fries into the ice cream. Here. Try it!"

Curiosity killed the cat. So, I tried her weird pregnancy cravings. I couldn't resist the temptation of dipping a crispy fry into the smooth and creamy vanilla ice cream.

Surprisingly, the sweet and salty combination was heavenly!

"You're right! It IS good."

While munching on some snacks, Silas returned from the task I had given him. Just as I was about to offer him a taste of the delicious snack, he requested a private meeting with me. "Why? What happened?"

"There's a new development in the case."

"Hmm. Understood. I'll meet you in the study room." I turned to Cory, "I have to go. I'll meet you at dinner."

"Alright."

I left and headed toward the studies, hoping this new information would lead us somewhere. We have been looking for leads, but I feel like we are reaching a dead end As soon as I walked into my study, there Silas stood by my table. He only sat down when I took a seat on my chair.

"What's new?"

"A few days ago, Sir Kingston asked investigators to do door-to-door questioning of some witches. Here's the list."

He placed the folder before me, and I quickly scanned through the names. However, I could not understand. Where is Sheila Weber in all these?

"I don't understand at all. What does the list have to do with the case?"

"That's my initial thought as well. I was looking at these, but nothing came to mind. But it bugged me when I saw this name." He sifted through the folders until he reached the page he sought.

"Look here." Pointing at the name- ELISHA BEWER. He might have noticed the confusion on my face, so he added,

"It's an anagram."

AN ANAGRAM! That's why we could never find Sheila Weber anywhere because she rearranged her real name. D*mn it!

"It's a breakthrough, Silas! Good work! Now, where is this Elisha Bewer?"

"I already asked the investigator to check for her." He sighed before continuing. "Unfortunately, she vacated the place.

No furniture or equipment was left. I am guessing she left when they questioned her the last time."

"That's most likely what happened. But, have we found out who she might be getting orders from?"

"We're still in the process of doing that. Were doing background checks and possible contacts she may have."

"This is good enough for now. I thought we would never get to find this witch!"

"Yeah, whoever was behind this is smart. They managed to delay the investigation."

He's right. Whoever that person is, we cannot underestimate them.

"I think they will make their move soon. Now that we know the true identity of the witch, there will be a great uproar. Be prepared and vigilant."

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

"On the other hand, do we have any news from the court about Chloe's hearing? They should be able to have an update by now."

"I expect an email from them in the coming days, but I could go and check."

"Good. Her action from last time should be enough to punish her severely." Recalling what she did to Cory triggered me and Kali.

"I agree with you. Hopefully, we'll keep her away from Cory soon, especially now that you're having a child."

I agreed. Not only will Cory be in danger, but also my pup.

After I dismissed Silas, I dove into a pile of papers that needed my attention. After what felt like an eternity, there came a knock at the door. It was Alfred, finally making his presence known. "Yes, Alfred?"

"Your Majesty, you have a visitor. Your cousin, Renee, is here.

"Thank you, Alfred. I will be right down."

As I descended the stairs, I found them amid a conversation in the cozy living room. I could hear Renee's excitement, and she kept congratulating Cory about the baby. Renee noticed me entering the room and ran over to give me a quick hug. "Oh, cuz! Congratulations! This is good news!"

"Thank you, Renee. And I know you're busy.

"Nah, it's fine. I was supposed to come here last night when I heard the news, but I was finalizing the plans for the party."

"I'm sorry, Renee. I couldn't help that much."

"No worries about that! We're almost done with the preparations anyway. We will send the invites soon!"

Renee and Cory discussed the party arrangements until it was time for her to go back home.

"I have to go. Aston's been looking for me."

"Thank you for visiting, Renee!"

"I'll visit more often after the party!" Before she stepped out of the chateau, her phone beeped.

"Oh, Laura sends her regards to both of you. She was with me a while ago, and I asked if she wanted to go with me.

But she left because of a stomach ache. We'll visit next time! Bye!"

I wouldn't be bothered if Laura never graced us with her presence at our home. Cory and I went back inside and passed the time until dinnertime arrived. Apparently, Cory requested breakfast for dinner - pancakes, bacon, sausages, eggs, and a whole breakfast meal. I guess I will be seeing weird food combinations in the next two months.
