Alissa Soleil's POV

"Bye, Ma. I'll be back late so don't wait up for me and have dinner with Bryan" I said.

"Yes yes" she said and I gave her a kiss on the top of her.

"I'm going, Bry. I'll be back late so don't wait up" I sais and kissed his cheek.

"Why?" he asked.

"I need to makeup for being away for days" I said grabbing my car keys and heading out.

"Bye!" I said one last time and got out.

Bry came after me as I was about to get in my car.

"Don't skip meals!" he reminded.

"Ill try my best!" I said and got inside the car.

Then, I drove off.

I was stoked to finally go back to the hospital.

Also, I'll be able to get my mind off things since I'll be focusing on work.

Having Bry at home makes me feel more at ease because for now, Ma has someone with her during the day.

Although I doubt Bryan would stay still.

I wouldn't be surprised if he tells me he wants to find work which is absolutely fine with me.

Whatever he's happy to do, he can do it.

Atleast as long as it's not illegal.

After some time, I arrived at the hospital and I parked my car then walked inside.

The hospital staff greeted me along with familiar patients.

"Dr. Ellis! You're finally back!" one of the nurses said.

I smiled.

"Indeed, I am" I said and winked at them.

Then, I walked to the lockers and immediately got changed into my scrubs.

Once I was finished and was about to return my clothes, I saw Calum.

"Hey" I greeted him.

"Hey" he said and then walked to me and hugged me.

"Welcome back" he said.

I chuckled.

"Thank you" I said then I put my clothes in my locker.

I looked at Cal as I closed my locker.

"Shall we start our day?" I said.

Cal chuckled and he nodded.

"Let's go" he said.

We got out of the locker room together and we went and got our records.

"The hospital's best duo is finally back" the nurse said.

Cal and I chuckled.

Then, we walked to the elevator.

We got in and headed straight to our patients' floor.

Then, we got out.

"Let's do this" I said.

Cal and I separated ways.

I started checking in with my patients and they were more than glad to have me back.

They also mentioned that Cal often checked on them and that he was also really nice to them.

I checked on all my patients and I finished a little pass lunch time.

I didn't really feel too hungry but I still felt the need to eat.

I sent a text to Cal and told him I'd be in the cafeteria if he wanted to have lunch together.

He replied and said he'd be there in a few minutes.

I went to the cafeteria first and and got us our food.

I knew what Cal liked so I got him that.

I sat down on our usual seat and I waited for Calum.

Then, I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.

"Miss Alissa Soleil Ellis?" a man with a bouquet asked.

I nodded.

"Yes, that's me. What can I help you with?" I asked.

"This is for you" he said and gave me teg bouquet.

I was taken aback.

I didn't even know this man.

"It's a delivery. The sender of the flower also sent a card. You may read that" he said.

I was confused but nodded and he left

My brows furrowed and I looked for tge card and saw it.

I opened it.

'Thank you for visiting the Palace. Goodluck on work. Don't forget to take care of yourself' -Luke.

I was a bit taken aback.

He even had flowers sent to me here?

When he's literally miles and miles away.

Really?

"Oh if it isn't Dr. Ellis the MIA" a familiar annoying voice said.

I sighed and looked at her with a bored look.

Then, she saw the bouquet in my hands and her brows furrowed.

"What is it now?" I said.

She didn't answer and just looked at the bouquet as her jaw clenched.

"You better throw that away before someone with allergies die because of you" she said and walked away with a frown.

Seriously?

What's her deal?

I shook my head in disbelief.

I hid the card in my coat.

"Soleil"

Cal came and he saw the bouquet.

"Whose is that?" he asked with slightly furrowed brows.

"Oh its just a welcome back gift, I guess" I said.

"Come on, let's eat before the food gets cold" I said to avoid further questions.

Cal still seemed curious but just sat down.

We ate together and we talked about what happened since I was gone.

Turns out he did overtime shifts every day 'just because'

This man is an even worse workaholic than I am.

We finished up our lunch and was immediately called to the ER floor after multiple casualties came in.

It was good for me because I needed the distraction.

Also, I needed to avoid further questioning.

It wasn't necessary to tell Calum that Luke sent me the flowers and that he was 'pursuing' me again.

I won't lie to him if he asks me about it but I don't feel the need to open tge topic up.

We handled a lot of patients until late and we couldn't even eat dinner.

It was already pass midnight when we finished.

Cal went to his office to get changed and I went to the locker room.

I left the flowers there as well and saw that they were still there.

How exactly was I going to explain why I have a flower bouquet when I go home?

I sighed.

I got changed and grabbed my stuff and the bouquet.

It would be rude to throw it away so I didn't.

Cal and I met up then we went to the parking lot together.

"How's your brother doing so far?" he asked.

"Not sure yet. We haven't really gotten to talk. We talked a little last night before bed but haven't talked about any important details about his stay yet" I said. Cal nodded.

"You want to grab something to eat before going home?" he asked.

"Sure. I'd love to" I said.

We both got into our cars.

"There's a good 24/7 diner that a nurse recommended to me. Do you want to go there?" he asked from his car.

I nodded.

"Sounds good to me. Lead the way" I said.

Cal drove in front of me and I followed him.

After a few minutes, we arrived at a diner and parked our cars then got off.

"Come on" Cal said and we both walked inside.

A waitress came up to us and took our order.

I looked around.

It was nice place.

It looked clean, well decorated and their menu offered a lot of food options as well.

"It's been a while since we last ate out together" Cal said.

I nodded in agreement.

"Yeah it has" I agreed.

Then, we were quiet for a moment.

"We haven't talked about what happened when you visited the Palace" he suddenly.

"Yes, we have. We talked about it over lunch, silly" I said.

"I meant what happened to you and your ex" he said.

I froze on my spot.

Cal sighed.

"I'm sorry. I know it's none of my business but I just-" he said and I cut him off before he could say anything more.

"It's fine" I said.

"You're allowed to ask" I told him.

I took a deep breath.

"We only talked about my family and my friends and I did steer clear of talking about Luke" I said.

Calum listened attentively.

"I wanted to take my time to tell you. I think I'm a biy ready now and we always tell each other almost everything and you've always been so supportive and encouraging and you deserve to know this too" I said. I took another deep breath and looked at Calum.

"When I went back there, I..." I paused.

"I found out that all that happened 13 years ago wasn't Luke's fault. We were all manipulated by his ex. We were all victims of her lies" I told him.

"When I first found out, I was devastated. Then, I was livid. I found out she was executed a long time ago" I continued.

Cal seemed a bit taken abac by the fact that someone was executed but he kept listening.

"After that, I just felt guilty. I felt sick to my stomach and I blamed myself for leaving so easily. Until now, I feel guilty about a lot of things" I said.

Cal reached for my hand and caressed it with his thumb.

I closed my eyes and gulped.

"I thought before that I wouldn't need to tell you unless you asked and now you're asking so I'm going to tell you this" I said.

"When I went back and Luke and I reconciled, he also confessed to me" I said.

I felt Cal's hand tense on mine.

I saw his jaw clench.

"And?" he asked.

"And well he wanted to 'pursue' me. 'Court' me. He said he wasn't giving up on me and nothing else mattered" I told him.

Cal scoffed.

"The uh...the flowers...he uh...he sent them" I said.

Cal chuckled but it was one of disbelief.

I knew Cal already had an amazing ff mood once I told him.

It's exactly why I didn't.

But then he asked and I didn't want want to lie nor hide anything from him.

Calum has always been a great friend and a great person to me.

I trust him.

I could even trust him with my life.

He's been there for me in this life that I have now.

He deserves to know.

I reached for Cal's hand and squeezed it.

He sighed.

Then, our food came.

We still talked and I changed up the subject.

If possible, I just didn't want to talk about Luke with Calum.

I knew he didn't like him that much specially after seeing him in our medical outreach before.

We finished our dinner just fine and we paid then made our way out.

"I'll see you again in our shift" I said and just when I was about to enter my car, Cal held my hand back.

I looked back at him.

"What is it?" I asked.

Instead of answering, he pulled me to him and hugged him.

I was surprised but I still hugged him back.

"What's wrong?" I asked worried.

His hug only tightened as I sighed and caressed his back.

"I don't want to lose you" he whispered.

It was in such a low tone that a normal human wouldn't hear it.

But I did.

After a while, Cal let me go and we said goodbye to each other.

Then, we separated ways at some point as I drove back home.

Now, I had another thing to think about.

I sighed.

I arrived at home and got in using my keys.

When I entered, Bry got up from the couch and he almost gave me a heart attack.

"Oh my ghad, Bry. What are you doing there this late?" I said.

He rubbed his eyes sleepily.

"I was waiting for you to come back" he said.

I sighed and I put down a bag of food.

I ordered takeouts.

"Hungry?" I asked.

"I could use a midnight snack" he said and I chuckled.

He digged into his food and then just looked at him.

Then, I spaced out for a moment.

"Ali" he said and I snapped right back.

"What?" I asked.

"Is everything okay?" he asked.

I bit my lower lip and sighed.

I turned to him while sitting down.

"What is it" he asked me.

I took a deep breath.

"There's this friend of mine who has a friend of opposite gender, they've been with each other for a long long time so they both trust each other with everything" I started.

Bry raised a brow at me but kept listening anyway.

"Now, this friend of mine told the other friend about their ex and everything and this friend doesn't like the ex and this friend of mine feels that the friend is-" I was talking but Bry cut me off. "Just say that it's you and your friend Calum talking about Luke. Ali, I'm not a kid anymore nor am I stupid" he said.

I bit my lower lip and sighed.

"Let me guess" he said.

"You told him everything that happened to the Palace including everything that happened between you and Luke and now, you're worried that it's bothering him" he said.

"How did you know?" I asked baffled.

Bry sighed.

"Do you even have an idea why your friend is bothered?" he asked.

I didn't answer.

"Anyone will be able to tell that he likes you, Ali. I'm not sure sure if you genuinely don't see that or you don't want to see it because he's been your friend for a long time" he said.

I bit my lower lip and looked away.

"You're in a tough spot, Ali" he commented.

I sighed and pouted.

I am indeed in a tight spot.

And yet again, I'm left asking.

What do I do now?
