Knox POV

I sat at the bar, staring into the amber liquid in my glass. It was my ninth drink, or maybe my tenth. I'd lost count. The White Flag was filling up as the lights dimmed, and the air was filled with the low hum of conversation and the occasional clink of glasses. Supernaturals of all kinds mingled around me, but I didn't care. None of them mattered. Nothing mattered without Lottie.

Kane's plan was supposed to protect her. I agreed to it, thinking I'd still get to see her, to be a part of her life. That we would be able to sneak moments alone with her to jog her memory of who we were and that we, in fact, had not abandoned her. But now? Now, she is gone. And I was stuck here, drowning in regret, hate, and misery. The alcohol didn't help. It never did, but I kept drinking, hoping for a reprieve that never came.

I spotted a blonde at the end of the bar, her eyes scanning the room. She was like me, a werewolf; I could sense it. I flashed her a smile, momentarily forcing the old Knox to come to the surface. She smiled back, giving me the all-clear. Getting to my feet, I headed over on somewhat numb feet, pushing by some and using others to support my swaying legs.

"Hey there, Are you a parking ticket? 'Cause you've got 'fine' written all over you?" I asked, clicking my fingers like I was the next Gok Wan.

"Excuse me." She laughed, her cheeks blushing slightly.

"She is mated." Havoc growled low-a warning I should heed but won't.

"Well, it worked for Mike." I boomed, my blood boiling at the thought of that cunt. "And she doesn't seem to be complaining, does she?" I asked cockily as I pushed thoughts of Mike from my mind; I focused on the task at hand: Feeling something.. Other than self-loathing. "You're beautiful has U in it," I grinned cheekily... "But quickie has U and I together." I announced, forcing my sexiest smile and wink at the gorgeous she-wolf in front of me.

"Quickie?" She giggled, her eyes scanning me, then over to a bathroom somewhere in the distance.

"Really?" Havoc growled low.

"Yeah, too easy!" I replied. The old Knox would have been all over this. But honestly, I didn't see the point. felt hollow. I felt hollow. Disgust filled as I thought about fucking anyone but Lottie. I hated them all, but not as much as I hated myself.

"Actually... I can't be arsed." I laughed, shaking my head... "Unless your name is Lottie?" I asked, wiggling my brows half, hoping she would play along.

"UGH!" She grunted, storming off in the opposite direction, taking the scent of a werewolf with her. With her gone, I stumbled back to my seat, nodding to the barman who shook his head yet still slid me a shot of whatever the fuck it was I was now drinking.

Grabbing my phone, I decided to call

Chase. I always liked Chase, respected him even. Maybe he would have some answers, or at least he might let me vent. My fingers fumbled as I found his number and hit dial. The phone rang,

and I took another swig of my drink, hoping for courage.

"Knox," Chase answered, his voice sharp. "What the hell do you want?" I blinked, taken aback by his anger. "Chase, I... I just needed to talk." I spluttered nervously.

"Haven't you guys upset her enough for one day?" he snapped, and my heart jumped, skipping a beat.

"What do you mean? Has something happened?" Chase laughed, but there was no humour in it. It was cold and anger-filled.

"You really don't know, do you? Kane's decisions are still screwing with her life, and you're too drunk to notice." I gripped the phone tighter, my knuckles turning white.

"Chase, tell me what happened." I begged, knowing my voice was rising with each passing second.

"You're pathetic, Knox," he spat.

"You're supposed to care about her, but all you do is drown yourself in booze. If you really cared, you'd be there for her instead of wallowing in self-pity." Chase vented; I could hear the chatter from behind me and knew I was embarrassing myself; I should care. Yet, I don't.
