True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1581
When the ghastly pale face of a female ghost appeared in the scene, Ernest glanced at Leah and realized her eyes were particularly bright. Then, she pointed to the female ghost on the screen and said to Ernest, "You can tell it's a local production from the way they filmed the atmosphere and the concept."
Ernest was surprised once more. It was his first time watching this horror film, and he didn't feel nervous or awkward. Instead, there was a lively commentator next to him that made it really interesting. "Isn't it? It's not scary at all. The bloody shots aren't the same as those big name Hollywood ones, this one looks a little more subtle. Want to guess what the blood is made of? Could it be tomato sauce?" Leah blabbered in enthusiasm.
Ernest didn't know whether to laugh or cry at her antics, then he asked her with a smile, "Do you watch horror films to analyze the kind of props they're using?"
"Yeah, aren't you curious?" Leah asked in bemusement. "Don't you think the props look super realistic?" "I would say they do, a little bit." Ernest nodded.
"Truthfully speaking, I don't really like this type of horror with jump scares of ghosts and their raggedy appearances. I like the ones that invoke a haunting atmosphere, something like inside an abandoned temple with whirring wind, pitch black darkness, dim lights, then all of a sudden a strange sound clamors from nowhere. Those types of movies with that atmosphere are the real gems. I think jump scares are just a lazy move, it's too straightforward. I mentioned subtlety just now, this director must have learned some Hollywood tricks."
It was the first time Ernest had heard such an explanation for a horror movie.
He felt happy while watching a horror movie, and there was nothing he could do about it.
Meeting Leah was a pleasant surprise, because no one else's but Leah's thoughts could consistently make him fluttered.
Ernest looked tenderly at Leah.
"Actually, I recently thought about writing a book about a ghost husband, something like 'my husband is a big shot in the underworld', that kind of stuff. But after considering everything, this genre of feel-good power fantasy books are usually written online, and there's not much money to make from it. It'll be difficult to sell its rights, but the rights are the exact thing I'm trying to sell. So it led me to this point where I can only imagine what it would be like. If I do end up writing something like this in the future, I'll definitely make it engaging with unexpected plot twists, it'd be beneficial for an adaptation." Leah ranted to Ernest, then turned to look at him.
Ernest thought about what she said for a while, then responded, "You'd better do your job well. As a law student, you should remember all the necessary legal texts. You wouldn't want to go in blind to your judicial exams in the future."
Leah stuck out her tongue and said, "Are you lecturing me?"
"It's just a suggestion, a serious and sincere one," Ernest said. "If you can't get your lawyer's certificate, all your efforts over the years will be in vain."
Leah shrugged with her hands in the air and said in embarrassment, "Sure, what you said is very true. It's a great honor to have friends like you. If you went along with what I said, you definitely would not be a good friend, but you, Ernest Jones, did nothing like that. You would tell me to study hard, and you would be right, I really should."
Ernest nodded and reached out to ruffle her hair.
"Shall we continue the movie?"
Leah was flustered as she stuck out her tongue yet again. "Okay, let's keep watching."
As time passed, neither of them spoke up again. They continued watching the movie in silence.
The atmosphere was growing quieter and quieter, and it gradually felt like they were seriously watching a horror movie.
The quieter it was, the more eerie the atmosphere became.
Ernest's attention was silently enraptured by the movie.
Leah did the same and said no more. Resting her arms on her knees, she sat cross-legged on the bed with her chin resting on her small hands and focused on the scenes.
She would occasionally sneak glances at Ernest, but Ernest remained ever so quiet. Neither of them spoke.
When the movie ended after more than an hour, Leah began to stretch.
Ernest got up and turned off her laptop then went to turn on the lights. He looked back at Leah and asked with a smile, "Would you like something to drink?" "Oh, just water is fine." Leah said. Ernest poured a glass of water and handed it to Leah.
After chatting for a while, Ernest said to her, "You should get some sleep, don't be too energetic. You need to get your shot early tomorrow morning. We can spend more time together once your body has fully healed."
"Are you sleepy?" Leah asked him in astonishment.
"I'm not tired, but it's time for you to go to bed. You're sick, so you should rest more to speed up your recovery." Ernest said in a serious tone.
Leah had no choice but to nod her head reluctantly. "Alright, well wash up and go to sleep."
She got up to brush her teeth and wash her face to get ready for sleep. The two of them brushed their teeth together and looked at each other in the mirror.
Leah felt a little tingly inside. She could only describe the feeling as comfort and warmth.
Just as they were about to head back to the room, someone knocked on the door.
Knock knock knock.
A crisp knock on the door rang through the room.
"Someone knocked on the door." Ernest was stunned and asked Leah in a low voice, "Is there anyone that comes to see you at this hour?"
Leah shook her head. "I don't know. Usually, the only person who would do so would be my best friend? But she must be with her boyfriend right now, it should be impossible for it to be her."
Ernest looked at the door. From the peephole, he found a tall man standing by the door. He frowned, lowered his voice and said to Leah, "It's a guy."
"Ah, it's a guy?" Leah was a little confused, but then she looked through the peephole.
In an instant, Leah's jaw dropped in shock. "Why is it him?"
Ernest was puzzled. He asked her in a surprised whisper, "Who on earth is he?"
Judging by Leah's reaction, it was someone she knew, but was he bad enough news to warrant such a reaction?
Leah was terribly startled. She reached out and grabbed Ernest in haste, then pushed him straight into her bedroom. She whispered to Ernest, "Don't come out. No matter what happens, don't come out and stay in the room, okay?"
Ernest frowned. Was he that ugly?
Leah's reaction surprised him, but he did not resist.
However, he didn't say anything. Instead, he looked at Leah in confusion.
"Please, don't let him see you." After Leah was done, she instinctively looked back in the direction of the living room and found Ernest's clothes were still left outside. Then she ran out in a panic, threw all his clothes and shoes into her bedroom, and slammed the door.
She rapidly cleared everything up as if she was caught in an act.
Seeing how Leah was in such a hurry, Ernest was a little lost. He didn't know what had happened, so he could only stay put in her room with festering doubts.
Leah tidied up everything and walked to the door. She let out a cough and asked loudly, "Who is it?"
A clear voice came through the door. "Leah, it's me. I heard you caught a cold so I came to see you."
"Oh, it's you?" Leah coughed as she opened the door to greet the person who had knocked. She smiled and continued speaking, "Hogan, why didn't you call me in advance?"
"Am I not welcomed, Little Leah?" Hogan looked at Leah and said with a smile.
"No that's not it." Leah quickly shook her head. "Come on in."
"You've already changed into your pajamas, are you getting ready to sleep?" Hogan looked at Leah with a smile in his eyes.
"Yeah, I was about to sleep." Leah nodded and said, "It's a little late for you to come by."
"I came here in the afternoon, but no one answered the door no matter how hard I knocked, so my only solution was to come here at night." Hogan said as he came in. He had some fruits in his hand and put them on the coffee table. He looked around the room and said, "What did you do this afternoon?"
"I went to the hospital and got my injection! If I didn't take it, I wouldn't be recovering as fast," Leah closed the door and said to him. "I'm all better now, thanks for your concern."
Hogan nodded and then looked at Leah. "You said you had to move out but there was no one to take care of you. Why don't you move in with me?"
"Move in with you?" Leah shrieked, "I don't want to live with you."
"It's not like we've never slept in the same bed before. How did you grow up to be so dramatic? Besides, you'd only be staying in the room next to mine. What were you thinking?"
"I wasn't thinking about anything. I'm doing fine living by myself. I have to work on my project at night and I don't go anywhere, so I'm always inside. Oh, could you hurry up and leave?"
"I haven't even sat down yet and you're already driving me away," Hogan said. "Are you some mistress in a castle or what?"
Leah blushed and immediately retorted, "What are you talking about? Do you think I'm like you?"
Hogan glanced in the direction of Leah's bedroom. His eyes were full of amusement as he looked at Leah and said, "Why don't I go to your bedroom and take a look?"
Leah's eyes flickered. She didn't expect Hogan to make such a proposition. She looked at him in surprise and said, "Look at my bedroom? Hogan, I didn't think you were the kind to be obsessed with snooping around a woman's chamber."
Hogan raised his eyebrows and smiled, "Why? Am I not allowed to see it?"
Leah was awfully sharp. Although her body was stiff, there was a keen look in her eyes. She smiled gently and said, "Whatever, if you insist on taking a look into a woman's chamber, being rude is the only thing I can call you. But to prove that I'm innocent, you can go in and see as you please."
Hogan stared at her. A light flashed in his eyes before it vanished. He then stared thoroughly at Leah before saying, "Leah, I'm serious. You said you were sick and you have no one to look after you. I don't know what's going on with you."
"Hogan, I'm fine, aren't I? I told you I'm okay!"
Hogan stood up abruptly and walked towards the door of Leah's bedroom. "I'm going into your bedroom. You don't mind, do you?"
