Leah noticed his rather fierce reaction and smiled and said, "I'm talking about cooking. What did you think I was talking about?"

Ernest's expression went stiff.

Leah was doing this on purpose. Did he have to feel embarrassed?

He took a deep look at Leah.

Leah continued casually as if she wasn't trying to tease him, "But to be honest, I think there's nothing wrong with cooking at home. It's clean and saves money, don't you think so?" He had to adapt to her pace.

Ernest didn't respond this time. He remained calm and continued to make breakfast.

"Actually, I often make breakfast myself. No, wait, it should be lunch. I can't get up for breakfast and it's the same for class. I usually find something to eat after class."

"That's not healthy. Many experts say breakfast is important, you should eat it on time, you should've heard of this." Ernest kindly reminded her.

"I've heard a lot of experts talk about it, but I don't always remember it. Why don't you, an expert, tell me?" Leah said with a smile, "What harm would it bring if I don't eat breakfast?" "Leah, are you doing this on purpose?" Ernest turned to look at Leah, his expression serious.

Leah was stunned for a few beats. "Yes, I am. Can't you see I was just spewing nonsense? I came here to chat with you because I was afraid that you might've felt embarrassed." "Don't you know what the most embarrassing thing is? Are you going to mention everything?"

"Oh, in my opinion, if you want to talk about embarrassing things, nothing would be as awkward as you were just now. I touched upon your physical problem mere moments ago, that would be the most embarrassing thing, right?"

Leah admired herself as she got around the matter.

She glanced at Ernest and was surprised at how embarrassed his expression was.

Leah thought it was really funny, but she also thought he looked really cute.

Ernest could only yield. He had to admit that Leah was a very smart and interesting girl. But all he could think of was if this was how she usually acts. Would she normally make such a ridiculous joke between her friends?

After a moment of hesitation, he asked.

"Do you play such jokes on the boys in your class?"

"How could I? How can I joke with other boys like this? I only do this with you." She said it so seriously it made Ernest's heart flutter.

Leah saw her reflection in his chilling eyes.

She said, "Believe me, this is really the first time I'm cracking such a joke with you, and I only do it with you."

"Why?" Ernest asked her very pensively.

Leah thought about it seriously before saying, "I just like to. There's no reason."

Ernest didn't know whether to laugh or cry at Leah's nonsensical answer.

"Well, do as you please!" Inside, Ernest was ecstatic, because this meant that he stood out in a special place in Leah's heart. He thought about it as he continued cooking.

Ernest's breakfast was still as splendid as the last time she had it. There was neatly poached egg, crispy hash browns, fresh greens, and two juicy sausages on the side. It was delicious. This time, Leah ate two servings for Ernest's sake.

As soon as she finished eating, someone knocked on the door.

Ernest raised his eyebrows and whispered, "Could it be Hogan from last night?"

Leah frowned and shook her head. "That's impossible. What is he doing here?"

"Maybe he came to apologize!" said Ernest softly.

He stood up to clean the dishes and put them into the sink with a serious expression.

Leah stood up and went to the door to look through the peephole, and fount that it really was Hogan who was behind her door.

Leah was appalled. She turned around and looked in Ernest's direction. He had just came out of the kitchen and looked at her with a calm expression.

Leah couldn't help but sigh at Ernest's accurate guess.

She pointed to the door and shrugged with her hands in the air, looking dejected. "It's really him."

Seeing Leah so distraught, Ernest pointed to the bedroom door and whispered to her, "Do you still need me to hide?"

Before Leah could even answer, Ernest had already made his way to the bedroom door and hid inside obediently.

Her mouth was left hanging and she thought, "Does he have to be so obedient?" She was a little embarrassed at how he let her do this to him.

What was Hogan doing? Leah was dreading opening the door.

"Knock, knock, knock..." It seemed like the rapt knocking would not stop until she opened the door, and it got louder with every hit.

Leah felt the despondency kick in. She opened the door with force to reveal a shocked Hogan.

Leah gave a smile, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Hogan, what are you doing here so early in the morning? Didn't I tell you to never come back? Why are you looking for me again?" Hogan looked at Leah with a conflicted expression. There were red blood streaks in his eyes. He looked exhausted as if he had not slept all night.

Leah did not let him through. She leaned against the doorframe and stared silently at Hogan.

Hogan spoke, "Let's talk inside!"

Leah frowned. She was powerless but allowed Hogan to enter.

"Please sit." Leah sat cross-legged on the sofa and raised her eyes to look at Hogan.

Hogan walked in and sat down on the sofa next to him. "Leah, everything was my fault last night. I was really rude and I said so many things that hurt you."

"Ah, you're still hung up on that matter? Didn't you apologize last night? Why are you bringing it up again?"

"It's because there are some things that have been buried in my heart for too long. I need to let it out." Hogan looked at Leah with a resolute expression. "You're so funny Hogan. Why not go to your friends to talk about your feelings instead of coming to me? If not, why not tell Rowane? Look at you coming all the way here to tell me your innermost thoughts this early in the morning. Frankly, I'm feeling kind of awkward right now."

Leah wanted to laugh at the situation. She had nothing to say to him. They used to be good friends, but what they had was long gone.

"Leah." Hogan raised his voice with a rumble. He seemed to be getting irate. "Why do you always involve Rowane whenever I want to tell you something? What does this have to do with her?"

"Oh, this has nothing to do with Rowane? Sorry, I'm just used to it. Hogan, didn't you often talk about Rowane in the past? I thought you were willing to talk to her about your feelings. I said too much just now. Spit it out, what do you want to tell me?"

Leah spoke half-heartedly. She really didn't want to talk to Hogan right now, she had been disappointed by him one too many times. He was once her childhood sweetheart, and now he was standing here with an attitude, it was worthy of a sigh.

"Leah, will you be my girlfriend?" Hogan asked abruptly.

His confession caught Leah off-guard. She felt uninterested at first, but in that instant, her jaw fell open in a daze as she looked at Hogan. Then, she laughed out loud.

"Hogan, is it April Fool's Day? Are you pulling a prank on me?"

Hogan hastily stood up and walked to Leah. He got down in front of her and said solemnly, "Leah, you know that I get serious when I want to be. I'm not joking around. I've started having feelings for you these past few years. As for Rowane, I always saw her as a younger sister, and you've always misunderstood the relationship between me and Rowane, it's so frustrating."

Leah was shocked, her expression conflicted as she stared at Hogan. Then, she said with a sigh, "Hogan, stop messing around. Seems like you didn't get some proper sleep last night. Why don't you go back and get some good rest?"

"Is this the answer you're giving me?" Hogan bore his eyes into Leah, unable to accept her response. "Can't you be my girlfriend?"

"Hogan, stop fooling around," Leah said seriously. "I won't be your girlfriend."

"Why?" Hogan's eyes burned scarlet red.

"Because I've treated you like a brother for all these years!"

"But I know you like me." Hogan was agitated and spoke without holding back.
