Twice Rejected -
Chapter 101
Queen mother’s POV
I gulped a mouth full of saliva at the gate of the palace, fiddling with my hand bag as I looked at the guards who were at the gate.
“Please, I want to have an audience with the alpha and his sister…” I said in a voice that was almost a whisper. “Please allow me to see them…”
“We’re sorry Ma’am… But the alpha said that you are not allowed anymore in the royal palace and we can’t go against his word.”
“Bu-”
“I have a mate and a young pup to feed now. Please consider us and leave. I don’t want to lose my job…”
The guard said as he began to push me away, but I struggled with him.
“At least tell him that I am here… If he doesn’t come down, then I’ll leave.”
“The alpha is not even here anymore… He has gone to look for his mate in another pack.”
It was as if I had been bathed with a bucket of cold water and my body became weak because of that. I finally gave up and told the guard that I would leave.
I looked down helplessly at the ground. I had brought this on myself because of how close-minded and cruel towards Koko I was.
I would not be in this situation, if I were an understanding mother. Tears began to run down my cheeks like a waterfall.
A few days later, I was surprised when I saw Chester coming to see me in the rat hole apartment I was now living in. I felt like hiding myself in a corner, when I opened the door and saw that he was the one behind it.
“Can I come in?”
He asked politely. I faked a plastic smile and made a way for him to come in. Then I saw the investigator Julianna following him from behind.
‘Why were they here?’ I asked myself.
“Should I get you both something?” I offered, but Chester shook his head.
“Please don’t bother yourself about that, we won’t even be staying here for long.” Then he turned to me with a serious expression.
“The Alpha’s mate has been found.”
My heart began to race suddenly as I heard that.
“Ah that’s wonderful news, where was she found?”
“That is not really important, so you don’t have to bother yourself with that Ma’am.” Julianna spoke for the first time.
I was still wondering why they had come, then Chester continued to speak.
“I’ll be arranging a grand welcome party for her, and even commoners will be allowed in the palace…”
“Is that your way of saying that I’ll be able to enter the palace without being noticed?”
I asked him, holding the arm of my couch, so that I would not fall to my knees with anticipation.
“No, your highness. I’m only saying that the Alpha’s guards won’t send you out like they used to. But after today, you might not get a chance to see her, because she will soon be crowned the Luna Queen… And because of the kidnapping incident, the security will be tighter than ever in the pack house.
I gulped in my spit.
“So this is really my only chance to truly apologize to her, isn’t it?”
“I don’t mean to be rude ma’am, but I don’t think this is something that needs to be spelt out for you… Since you already know what you have to do.” Julianna replied.
I looked down on the floor, not able to see their eyes.
“What if she doesn’t forgive me? She has every right to hold a grudge and threw me out of the Palace on my nose.”
“Anything would be better than just sitting here and sulking.”
After saying that Chester and the investigator, Julianna left me with my thoughts.
……………..
The time I had been anticipating finally came and I prepared and went to the occasion with high hopes, but the celebrant was nowhere in the party.
I walked outside to get fresh air and avoid hearing side talks about me. I went back in shortly, when I heard the MC announcing her presence.
When she finally arrived I could not go and join the parade because I was still gripped with shame. I spent all day mustering courage and finally when the time came to use the courage, I lost it.
When she was giving her toast, I was bathed with a new wave of shame once again.
There she was, standing so elegantly, despite all the petty and foolish things I did to pull her down, my legs suddenly stuck to the floor and I could not move an inch towards her. Instead I found myself heading towards the gate of the pack house when someone suddenly grabbed me by my arm.
”Mother!”
It was Laci, my dear daughter.
“Where are you going, don’t you think Koko deserve an apology?”
I nodded sadly.
“How could I not know that? But I feel so ashamed. How do I face her? Where do I start?” I asked with a trembling voice.
Laci did not allow me run away, instead she mind linked her brother to meet her in the royal garden with his mate and shortly after we arrived, they joined us.
“What is she doing here?”
Niyol growled angrily the moment he saw me, and my heart cracked again, Laci looked at me.
“She has something to tell both you and Koko… Mom?”
I sniffled, then held my palms together.
“I just want you to say that I am so sorry, I have been insensitive and thoughtless.”
I paused to catch my breath, as I was feeling stuffy.
“Even though you don’t make me the Queen mother again, I don’t even care. But I don’t think I’ll be able to live with you hating me. If I walk out of here with just your forgiveness, then that’s more than enough for me.”
There was a silence in the garden that was only broken by my occasional sobbing after I was done speaking. Then suddenly I was pulled into a warm embrace.
“Please stop crying… tonight is a night for celebration…”
It was Koko.
“My love, you can’t forgive her so easily..” Niyol yelled, but then she cut in with a calm tone.
“I haven’t forgiven her.” She said, pulling away from me.
My heart suddenly froze up when she said that.
“But b***d is thicker than water and even though her methods were wrong, she just did those things because she cared about you babe…”
Then she looked at me.
“So let us live as a family from now on.”
