Chapter 104

Koko’s POV

It was the night before the trial for Scarlett and Henry. I went down to her cell to find her scraping the walls with her fingernails till they were almost completely gone. Then when she heard footsteps, she turned and saw that it was me and glared.

“I was wondering when you were finally going to show up…”

She said in an icy tone, turning on the floor and then getting up, walking towards the bars of her cell. She looked so bony and thin. As if she had not eaten a single morsel of food for weeks.

“I’m sure you came to see how miserable I am doing, well here you are. Is this good enough for you?!”

She asked me in a mocking tone spreading out her arms that were as slim as all the rest of her body.

“You got what you wanted b****, you finally ruined my life for me. That seems to be a talent of yours ruining everything you touch!”

I almost found myself chuckling, but I had to hold back glancing at her to see if she had a head injury anywhere that I had missed because of the bad lights.

“Are you serious Scarlet? I’m the one that ruined your life?”

She nodded her breathing suddenly getting ragged as she spoke to me.

“All I wanted was to be queen, and I had been working so hard to get there, all for you to show up out of the blue and ruin everything for me. If you never came around, then right now the coronation ceremony should have been for me, not you!”

As I was walking down the stair flight, earlier, I had thought to myself; how I would feel finally saying Scarlet again no longer her prisoner but rather having the tables flipped in my favor.

However she looked so miserable; like a shadow of her former self that she always tried to keep elegant while looking down on others. I could not even hate her anymore, the only thing I felt for her was an absolute pity.

“You make it sound as if he was actually going to give you a chance before I suddenly came and snatched it away… But the previous Luna Queen had been gone for some time and yet he never gave you the time of day…”

Her face which was already pale and bony became even more sunken. And she struggled for a while to find anything to say.

“So you really left your big comfortable bed just to come down to this hole and insult me?”

I sighed, crossing my hands.

“No, I left my big comfortable bed to come down to this hole to give you a chance that you don’t even deserve…”

“A chance?” she asked cocking up her eyebrows

“Yes, as you know. Your trial is nothing more than a formality to respect pack laws, and honestly I would prefer if we didn’t waste everybody’s time with something like that. So tomorrow I’m hoping that you will be sensible enough to say the truth and accept whatever punishment is given to you..”

She didn’t say anything for a while, and just looked at me as if that was the first time in her life she had ever seen me, and suddenly she began to laugh. She laughed so hard that it seemed like her ribs which will probably be sunken under The rags that she was wearing could break at any moment.

“So, if I’m getting you right, you are basically telling me that I should plead guilty, right?”

“You are guilty, Scarlet I’m going around the bush wasting everyone’s time when it is already obvious, so denying it will only put you in more trouble,” I said to her reasonably but then she immediately shook her head.

“You think that I’m going to give you an easy time just because you asked me to?”

I shook my head.

“Actually, no. I seriously doubt that you will be able to make the right choice, but then I just needed to get this off my chest…”

“Oh, so you can feel good about yourself right? to make yourself feel like you’re some kind of benevolent Queen, right?”

I shook my head ignoring her foolish question as I finally turned to leave, more than fed up with her presence and this disgusting place.

“Are you going already? you should stay so we can chat a bit, right?”

I didn’t take a single step before turning to her and saying; “maybe you can chat with Henry.. oh, no I forgot to tell you that Chester was told not to transfer him here anymore…”

As soon as I said that, it was as if her eyeballs were going to roll out the very next second by the way they were popping in their sockets.

“You did what?!” she barked like a dog

“I heard about your little request for Henry to be brought to the cell next to yours and after some advice, I decided that I wasn’t going to let you have that…”

At this point, tears began to roll down her cheeks.

“You heartless b*tch!”

I just smiled when she said that.

“Am I being heartless? You didn’t seem to mind when you separated me from Niyol, you never thought you were being cruel whenever you tried to get between us… You didn’t bat an eyelid after you tortured me…”

She couldn’t say a word and just kept breathing heavily.

“So if you will excuse me now, I need to get back to my big, comfortable bed while you rot here in regret and loneliness…”

If eyes were enough to kill, she would have buried me six feet under with the way she was looking at me.

“I am going to get back at you…”

Not having enough time or patience to listen to her rubbish anymore, I began to walk down the hall towards the stairs and I could still hear her yelling behind me.

“I am going to make you pay even if it’s the last thing I do.”

I sighed, what was I expecting? that she would actually be able to feel some sense of remorse? I guess some people never change no matter what happens to them. It was quite pitiful, I had to admit.

When I came to the stairs; I was surprised to see my mate waiting for me there, before I could ask him how knew where I was, he came down to me and said.

“I noticed when you suddenly left the bedroom and I was worried so I followed you here…”

I looked at him and a smile took over my face as I realized once again with happiness that this thoughtful man was really my mate.

After all the rejections I had received in life, I had won the lottery in a way. My heart bubbled up and I let him take my hand.

“Are you upset that I came to talk with Scarlet? This won’t change anything about the trial…” I asked him to make sure that he was okay with it, because he seemed troubled and he just nodded.

“I know it won’t… now hurry, I think we have some other things to discuss in the bedroom.”
