Twice Rejected -
Chapter 32
Koko POV
I was still looking confused when I heard Laci’s voice.
“Is it because of what the old ladies said? Don’t mind them, they are old and superstitious.” Laci said, trying to discourage the worried look on my face.
Then she turned to the women who were just staring at us.” You have gotten your gossip, haven’t you? But listen carefully, if I hear that you spread any ill rumor about our future Luna, I won’t hesitate to point out your names to my brother.”
Then she smirked, baring her fangs.” You know what that means, right? You know how much he hates rumors and gossip.”
The women quickly smiled broadly.” Of course, we understand!”
“Good. You can all leave now. She needs to rest due to her injury, besides, I don’t want my brother to come and see her looking worn out.” Laci responded.
“But we wanted to wait for your mother. Let’s just wait a little more.” one of the women said to Laci.
“There is a room for waiting at the lounge. My mother would surely pass through that place to get here.” Laci said, refusing to bulge.
When the women saw that it was futile to argue with Laci, they started leaving one after the other. After they all left, the ward became calm and peaceful once again.
I relax visibly. My pent-up anxiety started dissipating when I was left alone with just Laci. She smiled again, bringing out a wrapped-up container. I could perceive the aroma of delicious dishes.
“Sit up straight. You haven’t eaten for some time according to the doctor. I need to fatten you up a little before my brother comes back.” Laci said, dishing out the delicious-looking foods.
“Thank you, Laci. This is the first time in all my life, I have been taken care of, except for the time I wanted to save my sister.” I said, trying to eat, but it seemed my hands were shaking.
Laci took the cutlery from my hands and decided to feed me herself. “Your sister? You have a sister?”
“Yes. I had a family, but I’m alone now. I don’t even have the right to call the woman that gave birth to me mother.”
“You said you wanted to save your sister. How were you planning to do that?” Laci asked.
I didn’t want to talk about those bad moments in my life, but somehow I felt drawn to Laci. Maybe it was because I could feel the positivity and honesty in her words.
Her actions showed that she wasn’t faking it. It seemed too genuine to be faked.
“My twin sister. She died because I was unable to give her my heart.” I simply said.
I saw her confused expression. “Your heart? Koko, are you about to die? Is that why you were about to give your sister your heart?”
“No, I’m perfectly fine. But my mother and the people in my pack wanted me to die instead of my sister, because they think I am a curse.” I replied.
“That’s evil of them. How could they even think of such a thing? You are perfectly healthy and they want you to die in place of your sick sister? Why don’t they just look for a heart somewhere else?” Laci asked, flaring up.
I just smiled without saying anything. I also knew it was evil back then, but I had no choice at that time.
I was already living a terrible life, so I thought it was okay if I just ended it well by saving my sister. It could be counted as doing a good deed.
“Laci, I am getting sick of the hospital. Can we please leave here? I feel suffocated.” I said, pleading with my eyes.
“Are you sure you are fine?” She asked, worriedly.
“I am perfectly fine, Laci. I just want to feel some fresh air that doesn’t have the air of a hospital.” I replied.
“Okay then. I will get the chauffeur to take us to the palace.” Laci said.
“Palace? Err…isn’t there somewhere else I could probably stay?” I asked, feeling awkward.
“Somewhere else other than the palace of your mate? Koko, no one would accept you into their house knowing you are my brother’s mate.” Laci said, looking at me with a grin.
She patted me on my shoulder as she left the room, probably to get my discharge.
Was I going to stay in the palace? I still feel like it was a dream though.
An hour later, the car stopped at a magnificent gate which opened slowly with a high mechanism I guess. These people must be filthy rich!
When we got to the entrance, I was enthralled by the artistic designs on the building’s exterior. It was beyond what words could describe. Laci got out of the car, cutting short my admiration.
“Let’s go in, Koko,” she said, holding my hands tightly.
We entered the huge palace which was filled with different servants who bowed at our presence. I began to wonder what kind of Alpha would possess such glory and wealth.
“Are… are you sure your brother is just an alpha?” I whispered.
She chuckled at my question before answering. “Of course, he is not just an alpha. He is the Alpha King of hundreds of districts who pay homage to him.”
What the heck!
I swallowed a lump of invisible spittle, as my mind still doubted everything going on.
“Come, let me show you your room,” Laci said, dragging me to a room opposite another one with golden doors.
I guess it must be the alpha’s room.
Laci pushed open the door and as I step into the room, my mouth opened in surprise. I wonder how she knew my favorite color was purple. I guess I must have mentioned it in one of our chats.
“This… is your room, your majesty,” she said, bowing. I blushed at her words, while shaking my head.
She burst into laughter at my quick denial. I followed suit and the room was filled with our laughter.
We laid on the bed chatting and laughing. I was feeling relaxed already. Though it all felt like a dream, I was ready to live it to the highest.
Just as we were discussing, the door was opened and an elderly woman who was an older version of Laci walked in.
Could she be her mother? I quickly put down my head to avoid her eyes.
“Mother, why did it take long for you to come?” Laci asked.
“Sorry, I had to attend to some matters at the women’s council. I rushed over to the clinic, but I found out you had been discharged. I’m here because of what your Aunt Maria told me.” She said, moving closer to my side of the bed.
“That big mouth!” Laci cursed, feeling annoyed.
“Watch your manners, girl,” her mother scolded.
Then turning to me, she ordered. “Raise your head, girl.”
I couldn’t disobey the order of the Queen mother. I slowly raised my head to look into her emerald green eyes, the same as Laci’s.
I heard her gasp, holding her chest.” What… what are you? How could you have such eyes?”
I quickly put my eyes down, I knew I should be ready to be thrown out again.
“Laci, how could you…”
“Mother, she is nothing like what those women are saying. She is just a little different.”
“A little different? She has the cursed eye!”Laci’s mother screamed.
“Cursed eye? How do you know? Have you ever seen someone with a cursed eye? Simply because she is different doesn’t mean that she is cursed. Mother, you should know better!” Laci said, sounding disappointed.
Still, her mother was looking at me with contempt. “I won’t allow it! Your brother won’t claim her as his mate!”
” But mother…”
“Do you expect us to accept her? Just take a look at her! She must have been chased out of her pack because of this too! I am never going to accept her.”
“Mother! You can’t keep spurting such things in front of her.”
Still boiling in fury, her mother ignored us.
My heart sank.
“I won’t allow her to be with your brother and that’s final!” Her mother screamed.
Just then the door pushed open and a deep baritone voice made me look up.
“What’s going on here, mother?”
My heart fluttered at the sound of his voice and I felt tingles all over my body. Luckily, I was on the bed. If not, I swear I would have fallen due to my wobbling legs right now.
He was here. My third chance mate.
But would he accept me?
“I asked a question!” He raised his voice the second time while walking closer to me.
“Son, you are not marrying this girl! I won’t accept it!” His mother said, looking at me with contempt.
“Why not? She is my mate and I already accepted her.” he said, without looking at me.
Did I just hear the words right? Did he accept me?
This time, our eyes finally met and my heart skipped a bit… in fright!
