Chapter 44

Scarlett POV

I was really looking forward to teaching that cursed girl a lesson this morning, after dealing with her last night. I must say the Queen mother was such a helpful person.

Just when I thought my plans were already going smoothly, Laci had to come and ruin everything for me. Just because she is the sister to the alpha, she thinks so highly of herself.

I couldn’t believe that brat Laci was on the same side with that cursed girl. How could she allow her brother to be with such a person? Everyone in the pack knew she was a curse with those black eyes of hers.

Why would she even think of mating with such a powerful alpha? In fact, I can’t understand why the goddess would even pair them together.

Anyways, I don’t care. I only had one purpose when I came to this pack again. That was to win over Niyol. I believed the heavens must have been on my side when his mate committed suicide.

I was supposed to be the rightful Luna, not Erika, and definitely not this cursed girl! I was away when Erika was made the Luna and mate to Niyol. If only my father hadn’t moved to the human realm, I believe I was the rightful Luna!

Mate or not!

And just when I thought that the heavens were finally smiling on me, this damned girl just appeared from nowhere. I will make sure she disappears before Niyol returns from his travels.

I was still fuming when I barged into Niyol’s mother. This woman was an asset, but I didn’t know if she would agree to my plans. I thought I should try her first.

I walked towards her looking sad and pitiful. I wanted her to blame that brat called Laci, and probably get her busy so she would be away from the cursed girl.

“What’s wrong with you, Scarlett? Are you okay?” She asked me.

I didn’t answer but I let some years drop from my eyes. Luckily, I was a good actress,,. way back in the human realm. I only stopped because my father wanted me to take care of his business with him.

Also I was already tired of the human realm and its activities. I was happy when I heard Erika was dead and I worked and trained myself these two years to become a worthy Luna to Niyol.

“You are crying? Did that cursed girl do something to you? I will go and teach her a lesson right now!” She said, looking furious.

I was brought back from my thoughts as I pretend to wipe my tears and force out a smile. I wanted to look very aggrieved, maybe she could stop Laci from coming around the cursed girl.

“No, Queen mother. I…I will be fine. It’s just…”

“It’s just what? What happened?” She asked again.

“It’s Laci. She threatened to deal with me if I ever do anything to that girl again. She even threatened to call Niyol and tell him everything.” I said, watching her expression.

“That brat! I don’t know what they see in that cursed girl that’s making them hover around her. I don’t know what to do to break them apart.” She said, complaining bitterly.

I held her hands and led her to a quiet spot in the palace. Biting my lips, I pretended to look conflicted and concerned.

I then started telling her some things,” If you don’t act fast, Niyole is going to make her his Luna. What would happen to the pack? The members are already complaining that she brought a curse with her and that she had totally bewitched the royal family.”

“It won’t be a good thing if the people lose hope in Niyol because of this cursed girl. They would think that he was under the influence of this girl. It’s better to act fast now before the rumors will become worse.”

She listened to me attentively and I think I was already getting to her. I knew that it won’t take long before I finally convinced her of my plan of getting rid of that girl.

“The same type of rumors that cursed the death of Erika? Mother, are you going to start that all over again? Did you forget how much Niyol had to suffer because of that?”

Without being told, I knew it was Laci talking, but how did she get here? Wasn’t she with that damn girl? Behind her was that cursed girl looking down as usual. I wonder how she was able to walk when she always looked down instead of ahead of her.

I turned to look at the Queen mother and I saw fear in her eyes, which she quickly dismissed. Was she afraid of her son? Or Laci?

“Laci, I am your mother! You and your brother should stop talking to me with disrespect!” She scolded Laci.

Laci just looked at her mother before facing me, her eyes boring a hole inside mine. At first, I was ready for her too. I hadn’t come here without expecting a fight from people. I was ready to go against even Niyol’s sister if that would make me drive that girl away.

But then I began to have a change of mind the instant I saw her aggressive nature towards anyone that hurts that cursed girl. If even the Queen mother was afraid, it meant Niyol was serious about this girl.

If I do anything rash again before my plan, I would be suspected. If I wanted to be free from being suspected of the plan I was about to execute, wouldn’t it be good for me to pretend? I mean like, pretending not to be interested in Niyol or even fighting that cursed girl.

“Are you trying to connive with my mother or what? I will be watching you!” Laci said, bringing me from my thoughts.

This was not good. I can’t be a suspect when I want to go ahead with my plan. What do I need to do now? I think I need to remove my interest in fighting that cursed girl.

I quickly put on a shamed expression filled with pain and regret.

I turned to her with a bow, “I am very sorry, Laci. I… I never thought that it was because of those words that led to Erika’s death. I don’t want Niyol to suffer anymore. I… I will stop coming to the palace and I will stop harassing that… I mean Niyol’s new mate.”

She scoffed before replying, “You had better be sorry, because if my brother gets to know how you are bullying his mate, I don’t think you and your family would be able to escape from his wrath. Got it?”

I quickly went to that damn cursed girl and knelt before her, I don’t mind groveling at her feet for now. That’s because she won’t even have the chance to grovel at my feet by the time I am through with her.

I immediately started apologizing, “I am sorry for everything that I did to you. I was just swayed by the words of the people when they said you were… cursed. I thought you will bring bad luck to Niyole so I went overboard with dealing with you.”

“I am ready to accept whatever punishment you want to give me. Just accept my apologies. I am truly sorry!.”

“Get away from her. If you are truly sorry, then stop spreading false rumors about her.” Laci said.

I nodded my head.

“It’s okay, Laci. Let’s just go.” I heard her saying. That damned girl!

I bite down my irritation and the anger trying to burst out of my chest.

I raised my head to see Laci holding her hand affectionately as they left us alone. I balled my fist tightly and tried to control my emotions.

“Are you really giving up?” The Queen mother asked.

Of course not!

But I turned to her with a sullen look,” Yes, Queen mother. I don’t want Niyol to be hurt by any actions that we might take.”

“And you think he won’t be hurt by her? She is cursed!”

“I am sorry, Queen mother. I have decided to forget about Niyol. Unless he wants me by his side, I will never come to him.” I said, bowing to her.” I will take my leave now.”

I turned around and left. Did they really think I had given up? I have not given up. I am just bidding my time to strike.

As I got to the entrance, I saw Laci walking hand in hand with the cursed girl. They were laughing and talking about something.

Why would such a person be loved by royalty? I won’t stand by and watch someone else take what belongs to me.

Looking away from them, I opened my mindlink and sent a message to someone.

“Let’s meet up, I have a job for you.”

After that, I quickly left the palace without looking back.

“Very soon, we are going to meet cursed girl.” I murmured to myself silently.
