Twice Rejected -
Chapter 46
Koko’s POV
“Mother, what are you saying? How could you utter such words to your son’s mate?”
“She is not and can never be Niyol’s mate. I refuse it and I will continue to refuse it!” She screamed.
“What do you have against Koko? How has she harmed you? It’s been more than a month since she has been living with us. Have you ever come across any ill fate? Why are you so adamant?” Laci asked, feeling frustrated.
“What do you mean by being adamant? Do you love your brother at all? How can you allow someone who was driven away from her pack to be with him? He is an alpha king and should be living by example!” She said, shouting.
I really wanted to stop them from quarreling, but I didn’t know how to start talking. I knew if I dare say anything from my mouth now, the Queen mother would just chop my head off.
“What example are you talking about? Is it the example of driving away an innocent mate just because she is different or what? Is there a hidden agenda?” Laci asked, feeling pissed with her mother.
“What mate? I don’t believe that the moon goddess would pair my son with such a person! It must be her doing!”
“Her doing? Are you saying that she is the moon goddess? Or are you saying that just anyone can make mates on their own? Can you even hear yourself, mother!”
“You know what I am talking about! She must have used her demonic powers! Can’t you see she is evil? Why are you and your brother so blinded by her? What spell did she cast on you?” The Queen mother screamed.
And before anyone could stop her, she moved towards me. Her eyes were vicious and it seemed she was going to rip my head off. Just when I was expecting something painful on either my face or body, Henry quickly blocked her direction.
Although I was relieved, I was afraid that I was putting Henry in her bad book.
“Get out of my way! I want to teach her a lesson!” She growled at Henry who fell on her knees from the impact of her royalty aura.
Although her husband was no longer the Alpha, she was still a Luna and she was also an alpha b***d. Not many people could withstand her roar.
I was also feeling extreme pain too as it seemed the roar was directed at me. I held my head in pains and I felt my body was about to fall from the impact.
“Koko!” Laci called out my name, holding me. She tried to steady my stance.
“I… I’m fine, Laci. Please don’t argue with your mother anymore. The servants are all watching and it won’t be good on her image.” I drew her closer and whispered in her ears.
Unfortunately, the Queen mother heard my words with Laci and she thought I was trying to butter my way into her heart.
“Do you think pretending to be virtuous or understanding would make me like you? Let me make this clear to you! I hate you! And I promise to make you disappear within three days! You will leave our lives!” The Queen mother said, turning to leave in fury.
Laci wanted to tell her mother something, but I held her back. I shook my head, telling her everything would be fine.
I turned to Henry who was staring at us, “Thank you so much, Mr Supermarket Superman. I think I will retire to my room. It seems I’m already feeling dizzy.”
“Alright, I will come visiting you, if I have the chance,” he said. I nodded at his words and forced a smile out.
Laci looked at me, confused. I saw her confused expression, but I didn’t say anything. I turned around to walk back into the palace.
She followed me to my room and ordered for some refreshments for me. I felt grateful, because I was suddenly feeling hungry.
“Koko, you look pale. Are you sure you are fine? The servant told me you have been unable to eat these past days. Is it because of my mother?” Laci asked, looking at me with concern.
“I’m fine, just feeling a little bit stuffy every time. I will just bear it a little since I feel relieved once I feel the fresh air. I will go to the hospital once Niyol comes back.” I assured her
She smiled at me, “You will only go to the hospital when my brother comes back? Is this love or are you trying to dodge going to the hospital?”
“It’s none, Laci. I just want to continue watching my body for some more days. It’s not like I was sick. I only feel a little uncomfortable when I get locked up in the room without perceiving fresh air.” I said.
“Alright. If you say so. Koko, I came to tell you that I might be a little busy for the next three days. My mate’s family is hosting a feast in honor of my mate’s late parents. So, I’m going to be a lot busier, but I will check on you once the activities are over.” She said.
I nodded. “It’s fine. I understand and don’t worry about me.”
We stayed together in the room chatting until I drifted to sleep. I guessed the ruckus this morning weighed me down.
I heard a knock on my door. I opened my eyes slowly, yawning. I didn’t remember when I slept off. It looked like Laci had already gone home.
Just as I wanted go and see who was at the door, I felt my head feeling dizzy and a wave of nausea swept all over my throat.
I quickly rushed to the bathroom, disregarding my dizziness. I tried puking, but it seemed nothing was coming out. There was another knock on my door and a voice came through.
“Are you okay?” That was Scarlett’s voice.
Ever since that day she begged for my forgiveness, she had truly changed into a better person. I knew she was trying to make up for all her wrongdoings, but I still didn’t feel comfortable around her.
“Yeah. I am fine. Give me a minute!” I shouted, but she wouldn’t hear. I forgot the room was soundproof.
At the thought of that word, I knew I was blushing again. His magnetic voice was running all over my brain again.
I really do miss him!
I stepped out of the bathroom and headed towards the door. I opened it slightly, but didn’t allow her to get in. I came out instead as if I was going out.
“Are you sure you are fine? You are looking pale. Are you sick?” She asked, her expression showing concern.
“I’m not. Just feeling a little stuffy, that’s why I want to take fresh air.” I said. I suddenly felt the wave of nausea again, but fortunately, Scarlett wasn’t looking in my direction.
“Sorry to barge in on you like this. I just wanted to check on you, because I heard from the servants that…” Scarlett tried to explain.
“It’s alright. It’s in the past and I can understand the Queen mother’s point too. Every mother is very concerned about their children and their future. I understand that she is just worried about Niyol.” I told her.
“Koko, I know I don’t have the right to say this but… I think you should be wary of her. At least until Niyol comes back.” Scarlett said, looking anxious.
“Is something wrong?” I asked.
“No, nothing is wrong. I’m just worried about the way the servant said you were being treated.” Scarlett explained.
A maid was still standing a little distance away and it was likely she might have heard our discussion. I just didn’t want them spreading rumors about Niyol’s mother.
“You are just worried for no reason, Scarlett. Like I said, she was just being a little fierce, because of her love for her son. I don’t need to be wary of someone who loves and cares for her child.” I said.
Then turning to the maid, I said to her,” I think I will eat those fruits when I am back from my walk.”
“Yes, Miss,” the servant said with a bow, before leaving.
Turning to look at Scarlett, I smiled at her. Then I started walking towards the palace entrance. I just didn’t feel comfortable around her no matter how hard I tried.
There was this part of me that was always telling me to be conscious of her. It was like she wasn’t showing me her real self. Not that I mind, but I just wanted to be away from her.
I didn’t know why, but I had been feeling a bit restless too. Maybe it was because I was missing my mate so much. And my wolf wasn’t helping either, because she just shut herself after her display that night.
It was like I was dreaming. Or was it really a dream?
These days, I was having a foreboding feeling. Like something was about to happen. But I had no one to talk to.
I just hoped it won’t be something disastrous and I prayed that Niyol would be okay.
