Twice Rejected
Chapter 64

Julianna POV

We waited patiently for this Henry guy to come, and I kind of used that time to glance through the letter once more. Judging from what I was seeing, it looked like it was written by someone very close to her. I could see a nickname below it. There might be a possibility that this ‘Henry’ was involved in Miss Koko’s kidnap case.

After a few minutes, the door to the throne room opened and he entered. So, he was the Henry everyone had been talking about?

As he approached the Alpha, I could sense fear and anxiety from him. He also looked like someone who had returned from a pub. Obviously, he just got down with a bitch. My instincts had never failed me.

He greeted and bowed to the Alpha. Alpha Niyol made it clear to him that we wanted to confirm something from him urgently. Alpha Niyol nodded at Chester who brought the letter to Henry. I stood like a judge who was ready to give a final verdict, so as to see his reaction, but the dude maintained his emotionless face.

“What is this, your majesty?” He asked.

“Why don’t you read it, Henry? We found a pretty peculiar name on it.” I smirked at him, and he didn’t find it funny.

“And who are you?” He asked in an unfriendly tone that made me want to shut him up with a slap. So sassy!

“Sorry for my manners. My name is Juliana Roberts. I am an expert investigator from the Province. I am working on the case of the future Luna.” I replied.

He simply nodded as he went through the contents of the letter. I was ready to read his expression and study his body language, that way, I would be able to place my fingers on something. Besides, I already had an hunch that he might be connected to the kidnap.

I watched him lift his head up. I was prepared to hear whatever he was going to say.

“Your majesty, with due respect. Even if this is my handwriting, I can tell you I never wrote this letter.” He said, bowing. I couldn’t take it, that was where I came in.

“You didn’t write the letter? Are you telling me that others know the name that Miss Koko always calls you?” I bvtted in.

He sighed heavily before denying that which led to a full blown argument between the two of us. I was not going to give up and it seemed he wasn’t backing out either. This guy was a tough one, but there wasn’t any case too hard for me to tackle.

As a result of his insistence, Alpha Niyol looked convinced and dismissed him. After Henry left, I turned to face the Alpha.

“Alpha Niyol, it would be great if I do more investigation on Henry. There are chances that he might be involved,” I said.

“I know, since I gave you the right to question anybody and all. But, I don’t think Henry is responsible. As far as I can relate, Henry has been Koko’s confidant. He is like a best friend to her, so I don’t see any reason why he would have a hand in her kidnap.” Alpha Niyol defended.

“Niyol is right, Julianna. Henry has always been beside her. Apart from me and Niyol, Henry is her closest friend. What grudge would he possibly have to kidnap her?” Princess Laci asked rhetorically.

They must really trust Henry a lot. But, what they didn’t know is that even your closest friend can turn out to be your worst enemy. They shouldn’t be so sure about him yet.

“I completely understand where you two are driving at, but I still maintain my stance, your majesty. Allow me to carry out more investigations.” I requested.

“If you insist that you want to do more investigations, then I have no problem with that. I just want Koko to be found as soon as possible.” The Alpha said and I nodded.

I used my index finger to rub my temple as I thought of the next way forward.

“But wait, if the handwriting doesn’t belong to Henry and was forged like he said, who do you think must have done it?” Princess Laci asked.

“The handwriting doesn’t look forged, and if it is by any chance, then there is a spy in the palace,” I said.

“A spy?” Princess Laci asked.

“Yes. None of the servants is aware of the nickname that the future Luna had given to Henry. I am sure that nicknames are only to be known by the two parties involved. If it is forged then the culprit is within the palace and has spied on the future Luna and Henry long enough to know that.” I answered.

“We have to find the spy then.” Alpha Niyole said.

“Do you think the spy would just relax and wait for you to come find him or her? Who knows whether the maid on the run is the spy?” I asked rhetorically.

“Chester, send more troops out to look for that servant,” Alpha Niyol ordered with a pained expression on his face. I could tell that he is going through a lot of pains, I couldn’t even imagine the brunt of losing a mate even though I didn’t have one yet.

Chester nodded and left the throne room.

“Son, pull yourself together.” The dethroned queen who had been quiet all along finally spoke up. Her voice cracked as she spoke and her face looked more sorrowful when she looked at her children.

“The meeting is over. You can leave now,” Alpha Niyol said to his mother.

I could see fresh tears dropping from her eyes as her children ignored her. She stood up from where he sat, and dragged her feet out of the throne room. I needed to ask her questions as well, so I excused myself and went after her.

“Queen mother,” I called.

She turned to face me with a pained expression.”I’d prefer you don’t call me that. I have been stripped of my title,” She said, her eyes never leaving me.

“Oh, okay. I’m sorry but I need to ask you a few questions concerning the future Luna’s disappearance,” I said.

“Are you suspecting me too?” She asked me, her voice shaky at first.

“Not exactly. I just need some vital information from you. What do you think?”

“Why would you want that from me? Besides, if I talk, no one is ready to listen to me or will believe me, so why bother?” She asked me.

“I am an investigator, and it would be wrong for me to take sides. All I need now is just your cooperation ma’am.” I said.

She sighed in defeat before looking at me. “What questions do you want to ask me?” She asked.

“Just a few. It won’t take your time,” I said.

“It’s not like I have anywhere to go.” She smiled sadly.

Those freaks sure had the nerves to break a family apart like this. I felt… No… My instincts were telling me that she doesn’t have any hand in this. But this was a modern world where solid evidence is needed to declare someone innocent.

“Here comes my questions. I’d appreciate it if you’re honest with me.”

“No problem,” she said and prepared herself for whatever I would ask.

“What kind of relationship did you and Koko have?” I asked.

“It was not a cordial one at all.” She answered.

“Why?”

“I didn’t like her because she looked different and I tagged her as ugly. I would have ignored her, but I just couldn’t bear the brunt of my son calling her his second chance mate, so I became cruel to her.” She answered me.

“Hmmm, is that why you lured her into getting kidnapped?” I asked.

“No, I didn’t lure her.” She answered.

“Then, what did you do to her?”

“I only threatened her, that’s all.”

“What kind of threat?”

“To stay away from my son, else I would throw her out of the palace and deal with her mercilessly. I never thought about kidnapping her. That’s way too low for someone like me,” The Queen mother said.

I could get hints of sincerity from her tone. They were really smart, and I think they might have used those threats to make the Queen Mother look like the one responsible.

“If I may ask, what kind of relationship do you have with Scarlett?” I asked.

“I and Scarlett got along really well, because she was from an influential family and is very beautiful. I figured she should be the future Luna and not the cursed eye girl,”

“The cursed eye girl?”

“Have you seen her eyes? That is why I didn’t want her for my son. What kind of a mother would want such evil for her child, huh?” She asked me.

“You call her evil without even getting to know her. There are lots of praises about how good she is. You shouldn’t judge others from the outside, rather you judge from the inside,” I said to her, because I knew that was the kind of advice she needed right now. If she continued to call Koko names, she might never be reinstated by her children.

“Has Scarlett told you anything about Miss Koko before?” I asked her.

“She did treat Koko in a bad way before, but suddenly she stopped coming to me. On the day my son dethroned me, I was with her and had asked her to meet my son this time but she rejected the offer, which baffled me,”

“That was when your son came, right?”

“Yes.”

Things were becoming a little clearer now. Judging from what I saw when I returned to the pack with Chester, Scarlett really wanted we the Alpha for herself. Rejecting the Queen mother’s offer meant she saw the Alpha coming and had to put her act together, thus framing the Queen Mother.

“Okay. Thank you so much… Ma’am. I’ll request for you when I need to see you again.” I smiled at her.

“Please, if there is anything you can do to prove my innocence, I’d gladly appreciate it,” She said.

I nodded and she left.

Scarlett and Henry were my main targets now. Those two were giving off bad energy, but the Alpha and his sister were blinded by trust that they could not see it. I needed to put an eye on both of them.
