Twice Rejected
Chapter 75

Niyol’s POV

I sat up on the bed and stretched my body. Chester came to sit before me. Maybe he was worried that I was hurting again, but weird enough, I haven’t hurt since morning. Could they have left her to be? Or they released her?

“Chester.” I called.

“Yes, buddy.” He answered and looked at me.

“Don’t you find this weird?” I asked.

“What?” He asked.

“I haven’t felt any pain since this morning. I don’t understand what is going on.” I furrowed my brows as I tried to think of something.

“If you aren’t feeling any pain, shouldn’t you be happy? That could only mean that they aren’t torturing her anymore.” Chester said.

“Yes but I’m worried. Could they have done something else to her?” I asked and stood up from where I was seated.

Chester made me sit down back. “Calm down. If they have done something else, I am sure you would have felt it. She is fine for now and I am sure we are going to find her soon. Julianna is doing her best and I’ll try my best to help as well.” Chester said.

I lowered my head sadly. I felt useless. Koko is my mate and I was supposed to be at the Frontline, looking for a way to save her, but I couldn’t. If only we could find a lead, all these would have been over and she would be in my arms right now. I can’t stand her suffering and her getting tortured over there everyday makes me wanna go crazy.

“You need to calm down, Niyol. I know how upset you are right now but you need to be strong. You’re the best Alpha anyone could think of. And I am very sure that if her tortures had not affected you, you would have found a way out of these.” Chester said and placed his palm on my shoulder. This was the reason why I liked him. He acts as if he reads my mind all the time.

“You are right.. but I can’t stop the feeling. On top of that, I miss her so much.” I complained.

“I understand. We will find her soon.” Chester patted me.

I sighed and nodded.

“Alpha.”

I looked up and saw a guard standing at the door. I urged him to come in with my hand and he did. I recognized him as the leader of the search party I sent out to look for Koko.

“Did you find her?” I asked hopefully.

“We haven’t found her yet, Alpha. We have searched the nook and cranny of this kingdom, but can’t find her.” He answered and it pissed me off.

“You can’t search the nook and cranny of this kingdom and come back to tell me that you can’t find my mate! She is still somewhere around here. I am sure of that!” I snapped at him.

“We apologise, your grace.” He bowed.

“I will not accept any apology until my mate is found. Search the whole pack and neighboring kingdoms again. Turn stones upside down if you have to and bring my mate to me. I don’t care how you do it but Koko must be found even if it warrants you barging in on other’s territories” I yelled.

“Calm down, Niyol. Barging in on others territory is like trespassing and you know the consequences. They will search in the appropriate places and will find her.” Chester assured me.

“You may go now.” I ordered the guard who was on his knees and he left. Laci entered immediately and rushed to me.

“Are you okay? I heard your yell. What happened?” She asked.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.” I forced a smile and she sighed.

“What have we done wrong to deserve all these? Who did we offend that is taking revenge on us like this? Isn’t the moon goddess seeing what we are passing through? Will she allow us to suffer in this manner?” Laci asked and I could see tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Please, don’t cry. You know how much I hate that?” I hugged and patted her back.

“It’s just not fair. We don’t deserve all these.” she said and I continued to pat her back till she calmed down.

Suddenly, I felt something move in me. My wolf sense tingled and my head spun. I could sense a connection with Koko’s wolf. She shifted!

“She shifted!” I sprung up from my seat which startled Laci and Chester.

“She shifted? You mean Koko?” Chester asked and I nodded.

“Could she have escaped from them?” Laci asked.

“I don’t know.” I answered and I soon remembered the pack healer’s words. If Koko had shifted, then it meant I could fully connect with her wolf and find her. “I can find her now that she is in her wolf form. Organise the warriors” I ordered and Chester left to do so. Hang in there for me, Koko. I’m coming to get you.

Koko’s POV

“Do not let that wolf get away!” One of the men yelled and they surrounded me. My wolf used our eyes to scrutinize the men one after the other as she looked for the perfect place to attack them.

“Get her now! Do not hold back!”

My wolf growled angrily at the men who were advancing towards her… or me. I was shocked as to why my wolf decided to come out now, but I was grateful she did.

The men lunged at her and in a swift movement, they were down. Another came and she snapped his head off from his body. She did the same to the rest without giving them a chance to fight back. I didn’t know my wolf… I mean me… I didn’t know she could be this ruthless and merciless. She broke some of them ribs by ribs and threw them to the side before going over to another one. All their effort to land an attack failed, giving her the upper hand.

After she was done with the men, I could see myself slowly returning to the surface while my wolf returned to my mind. I don’t want her to return yet. We still needed to find a way out of here.

“No, you can’t go in yet. We need to get out of here.” I said, but she went silent.

I staggered up and looked at the men in the pool of their own b***d. I stared at my shredded clothes which laid on the floor and looked back at my naked body. I walked to the clothes and picked the one that could cover my waist and chest before heading to the door. I fiddled with the doorknob for a while, but it wouldn’t bulge. I looked around and saw the keys dangling in the pocket of one of the guards. I rushed there and picked up the keys then used it to unlock the door.

It was already getting dark and I didn’t know which way to go from here, but anywhere would be better than this damn place. I dragged my feet out of there and struggled through the place, holding my stomach tight.

I would fall at intervals, but would force myself up. All I could think of right now was survival. I must survive and return to Niyol.

My body was weak and my legs were giving out. I looked back and saw that I had already gone far away from the warehouse. I plopped to the ground and burst into tears. This was the time I needed my wolf but she had become silent again.

“Why are you doing this to me, huh? Just come out and let’s run. We need to get out of here. We need to return to Niyol. I am sure he is already waiting for us, he must have missed us so much. Please, come out now.” I pleaded in tears, but she remained quiet.

“You came out and fought just now, didn’t you? You saved us and I’m grateful for that but we need to get out of this environment. I’m weak. Come out and let us run out of here.”

I said and buried my face in my palms. This isn’t going well. I just wanted to get out of this premises so they won’t come after me again. I miss him so much.

Chester already organized the warriors and prepared the vehicles. My joy knew no bounds as all I could think was to bring Koko back. As long as she was still in her wolf form, I would find her and we’d be together again. But what could have made her shift? The moon goddess must have answered our prayers this time.

“I can’t believe you’re going to find her.” Laci said, and for the first time since Koko went missing, I saw her smile genuinely.

“Me too. I am so overjoyed right now.” I said as I flipped through my wardrobe, looking for what to wear.

“The warriors are organized and everything is ready. Have you gotten the exact location yet?” Chester asked.

“No, but I’m getting there,” I said.

I stretched my hand to pick up a long sleeved shirt when I couldn’t feel the connection anymore. What happened? Did she shift back to her human form? My face became drained of all colours and I brought my hand down from where I wanted to pick a cloth from. Chester seemed to have noticed my mood and walked up to me.

“What happened?” He asked.

My mouth shook as I tried to answer and my eyes were blinded in rage. Chester placed his hand on my shoulder and gave it a squeeze, urging me to speak.

“I lost the connection.”
