Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 117

Connor's finger lingers over the screen touching an appointment, blinking his eyes numerous times to make sure it's real. Truth be told, he completely forgot about it. Calendar entry meeting with Terrence and Levi 10:00 a.m. in two days from now.

Connor talks on the phone to Terrence regularly, but Terrance never discloses anything about Leilani or anything about their location at all.

The appointment was made five months ago and Connor really did forget about it.

Connor links Harvey and Harvey quickly enters the office.

"What is it boss?"

Everyone has benefited from Connor's hard work. There was even an influx of wolves wanting to join the stormy pack which Connor allowed. Within that group was Harvey's own mate, much to his surprise and joy to find the beauty in the middle of the usual welcome to pack induction that he runs with Connor. He has been happily mated for two years with a one-year-old pup already and he is trying to talk his mate into a second at the moment. "They are saying that I need a luna and need a heir"

"As you were expecting"

"It was, but doesn't mean I like hearing the words anymore. As you know, Lani is all I want. As it happens, I am meeting Terrance and Levi in two days"

Harvey shrugs, no matter how many times Connor asks in their once yearly meetings or regular phone calls, Terrance never gives over the location of Leilani, he doubts that this time will be any different.

"You know they are never going to divulge that information"

"And this time I am not even going to ask"

Connor is not sure whether they only meet up with him once a year because he spends ninety percent of his time shamelessly begging them to give him anything about her, to even show him a picture, hear a voice mail recording, anything at all. He must be the most annoyingly pathetic man to ever exist.

Harvey raises a single eyebrow, his face scrunched heavily in confusion.

"Are you finally giving her up?"

Connor shakes his head as he glances at the photo once again.

"Never"

"Then what is the plan?"

"They are going to go back to her at sometime. I am going to follow them until I get to her"

"You have tried that before"

"I know, I tailed them for days"

Connor had to get back to pack business. He assumed that they would go straight back.

"This time even if it takes a whole month, I am going, I will not give up. I am putting off everything until I lay eyes on her"

"If she doesn't come here willingly, are you planning on just taking her?"

Connor leans back in his chair, contemplating heavily. He hadn't really got much past the fact of finding her and she runs happily into his arms, telling him how much she missed him.

Lani is the one that is staying away, she is the one that walked away, she hasn't returned, she hasn't called, written a letter, any possible type of correspondence that she could have done. She could have reached out. She could have allowed Levi and Terrance to let them tell her news. He knows that she refuses to find out things about him. That is all he knows. The reason why? He is not even sure anymore.

Day of separation

Connor and Harvey walk side by side. The crowds that have converged on the area is huge, the sun is making itself known for the last time, the light is low, walking over the uneven and relatively un-tamed ground, Connor can understand how someone would use a place like this to hide kidnap victims. It is a place that no one would ever just walk past. The only risk is kids playing in an abandoned mine shaft, but the risk of that is small as the closest town is quite a few kilometers away. "Have you seen Rosalie?"

Connor just shakes his head.

"She is with Uncle Baxter and her mother. For now, that is the best place she can be. She doesn't need my input, I will let her recover and send her some things" "You don't know what to say?"

"What can I say? What do you say to someone that has been locked up for over a month? What has she been through? Am I meant to look at her with pity? Am I meant to look at her with understanding or am I meant to pretend she is the same person?" "I truly have no idea"

"I will let her know I am think ing of her, but right now I am just here in support of the elite squad and I want to see Leilani. I need to see that she is safe"

Harvey looks around the crowd and he can see where most of the people are congregating. He can only assume that is where the squad is.

"I understand now the importance of you allowing Leilani to continue what she is doing. Look how many lives she has touched, how much pain she saved and the number of girls she has set free"

"What she does is important and she loves it. I would never stop her from doing what she loves. I really feel like I am meant to stay by her side and support her in that way. Fate guided her to me so that I could make sure that she keeps doing what is important, she keeps making a difference for as long as she wants and then I will be right there when she wants to settle down and start a little family and be in the stormy pack full-time"

"Can you imagine Leilani as a mother?"

Connor looks up at the moon, which is only a small crescent and providing little to no light. There is a gentle look in his eyes and a tender smile on his face.

"She is going to be the best mother"

Harvey pats Connor's back.

"It sounds like you want to knock her up straight away"

"The very first moment she says yes, we will be trying morning, noon and night"

Harvey laughs quietly, this is not really the right location for a casual conversation or laughter. They keep their voices incredibly low, making sure not to disturb anyone. The grief can be felt in the air because, of course, it is not as easy as just rescuing the girls and everything is fine. There will be so much healing to get through this, if they ever can, the hurt will continue for a long time.

"You love her?"

"More than I thought possible, my heart beats for her, she is everything I have ever wanted"

Harvey pats Connor's shoulder again.

"I am happy for you bud"

Connor finally catches sight of Leilani. Her hair is a little strange, it is a little more golden than he is used to. She has a gentle look on her face as she supports a girl beside her.

She is perfection, she doesn't even celebrate her achievements, she just continues on. He knows that she would know exactly how to be around Rosalie. She knows how to do everything, no matter what anyone else says. Connor is sure that they are meant to be, even if the moon goddess decided it wasn't meant to be at birth, he knows that they are perfect for each other now. Maybe life sculpted them into something else and made them perfect, two pieces that fit together with precision and what doesn't fit, their love will fill the space.

Connor walks with slow steps, watching Lani being in her element, watching her do what she does best. He has seen her fight and train but he hasn't seen much of the other aspects. Just watching her now, he knows that this is what she is meant to do. Harvey makes his way toward Terrance, who is standing off to the side, looking lost. Harvey isn't as close with Terrance as Connor, but they are still more than acquaintances. Connor knows that he should go to Terrance to check on him, but for some reason he just wants to see Lani.

He wants to hold her close and check every inch of her and as soon as they are clear and the attention is no longer on her, he will pick her up, put her over his shoulder and take her some place, just walk until they are somewhere so beautiful that they forget about everything that they left behind them, until they are surrounded by nature, just the two of them and he can finally place his mark on that beautiful shoulder.

Connor smiles to himself at the thought, he can almost taste her flesh on his canines and has to take a moment to compose himself. Walking into the middle of this solemn mess rock hard might not be the best option. He is proud of Lani and he wants Lani to be proud of him, so he will not do anything to embarrass her.

He wants her to be the proud, strong Luna by his side, so, of course, he will be the strong, supportive alpha by her side.

Connor's chest swells with pride as he approaches her, step by step, watching every movement, watching every interaction. He can hear her sweet soothing voice, there are so many wolves around, he tries to take a deep breath in to take in her amazing scent, he wants to breathe her delectable scent as he watches her.

He doesn't want to interrupt, but he wants to be right there with her, but as he breathes in, he smells the most divine scent that fills his nose, his head moves in confusion as his eyes move around the crowd. What is that? If he didn't know any better, he would think it was the mate scent. It is a slightly floral smell that is calling his wolf.

Connor's heart skips a beat, he just rejected Maggie, does this mean? Could it be possible? Leilani is his second chance mate? He fights back tears that threaten to fall. Could it really be? All that was before and now he is so blessed. He has never been so happy. He has never wanted anything more.
