Twisting Her Fate -
Chapter 134
**2 years after separation**
Evie shrugs her shoulders.
"So what? Did I stop you from doing anything? Did I inhibit you from having the same? Are you acting like I deserved such a vicious fate because you were jealous?"
"Why should you have anything? You say that you never stopped me, but how is a star meant to shine next to a blazing sun? I was always eclipsed by you, it was so unfair" Evie throws her head back and laughs, it is a cold laugh, one filled with fury.
"Unfair? Do you want to know what is unfair? That my own sister would do that, that even a fellow woman would subject someone to that, I wouldn't do that to a stranger. No, I wouldn't even do that to my worst enemy"
Evie punches Madison in the jaw once more as she opens her mouth, stopping the vile words from spilling forth.
"I just want to know how you did it"
All the pieces are together. The missing link is how Madison knew about Simon to bait him like that. If she had that information she could have stopped a terrible man and gained the recognition that she was desperately seeking. Instead, she decided to use the information to make Evie suffer. What type of person even does that?
Madison is actually proud of this and she volunteers the information. She has been wanting to tell someone about the slow process that led to her sister's perfect life coming to an end.
"I had a friend and she was telling me about this chat she was having with this man. She left her laptop with me when she disappeared. No one else really noticed, she was just a rogue, so no one cared. Why would I report it? I could access her chats from the laptop so I knew that she had gone to meet this man when she disappeared. She turned up six months later dead. No one cared, she was only a rogue, but her body was in bad shape, that is what gave me the idea"
Damon looks like he is on the verge of passing out, Connor wants to jump in the ring and knock all of this disgusting girls teeth out. Her actions are reprehensible. There is nothing redeemable about this girl. Evie closes her eyes, she has the same thoughts. Once Evie opens her eyes again, there is just stoic indifference as she views the malicious girl.
Madison scoffs at Evie's expression.
"What are you going to do? Lock me up?"
"I will never keep you around. That is just setting myself up to get a knife in my back. You should be thankful. If I hate someone and I want them gone, I take a more direct approach to it. The fact that you would do something so insidious to me, that you knowingly sent me there to be treated in such a way, evil isn't a strong enough word for you. If you wanted me dead you should have had the guts to do it yourself. You should have at least allowed me that mercy"
Evie raises her hand in front of herself, extending her sharp and vicious-looking claws.
"I will allow you that mercy, because after all you have done to break me, I am still a good person"
Madison's eyes widen as she watches as Evie's claw-extended hand descends, she feels her skin ripping and looks straight into her twins honey-colored orbs, knowing that her soft and gentle sister is no more, the girl that tried everything to let her join, to help her through, there is no love left for her sister. Madison's act shredded it all.
Madison is no longer Evie's sister, she is only her enemy. Someone that can do such a thing cannot be considered family. Evie rips out her sisters heart in front of the whole pack.
Madsion's corpse slumps to the ground in front of the stunned-on-lookers.
Evie walks to Damon without a mis-step, placing her foot on Damon.
"Do you concede?"
"I concede"
There is nothing that Damon can do now and it is only the first step he can take in trying to make it up to Evie.
Evie jumps out of the ring and Connor embraces Evie with pride shining in his eyes.
"You were amazing"
"I did it Connor, I really did it"
Connor smiles as his thumb rubs a little blood from her eyes, watching those honey-coloured eyes go from hollow and empty, to regaining their lustre has been one of the best parts of this whole journey.
"I never had a doubt in my mind"
Connor looks over Evie. She is relatively undamaged from the fight, she has a sheen of sweat on her golden skin, a massive smile on her face and her honey-colored eyes are alive.
She is the alpha, the alpha of her birth pack and not by nepotism, this was earned. She is the alpha through battle and there are very few that can claim that right and none that are female that accomplished the same thing. Evie's name has been cleared
Evie is shining like never before. The late afternoon sun glitters in her hair. She looks angelic but with Madison's blood covering her hand and the spray from it covering her body. She looks like the goddess of war.
Damon finally moves his body but he just kneels on the ground looking at Evie. Regret cutting him so deep that it makes it hard to breathe. He doesn't cry for his lost mate as he would like to kill her again. If he thought it would help, he would kick her corpse a few times.
All this time, he was wondering how he was so blind to never see what Evie was when the real villain was right there in front of him. Able to manipulate him in such a way, making him lose focus on who he should be looking for. Making him give up his real mate, making the bond fade to nothing.
He swore it would only be her, only Evie for a lifetime. It would only ever be her in his heart in his bed. Everything was reserved for her but now it is all ruined. He lost the chance of even being her fated.
Maybe if he had kept believing, maybe he would have been able to find her and she wouldn't have gone through this. At least if he held out hope and held on for her, right now he would be joyous and telling her how much he loves her instead. Now he will have to watch her being fated to another man, knowing that he will never have that chance that his own fate was twisted by his naive belief, by his lack of questioning and lack of belief in Evie. He knew her. So why couldn't he believe in her?
It hurts deep down inside to know what the woman who he gave his time and affection to did this to the one he truly loved. The fact that Madison was able to live a good life when Evie had been through so much.
The fact that Madison had set it all up and then had the nerve to use the same photos that led to Evie's demise to ruin the relationship he had with Evie, to undermine all the precious moments they had together. Sorrow chokes him up.
He failed Evie, he failed their love and he failed his wolf.
The whole Azure pack is in a mess. They have a new Alpha, that, until a few moments ago, they completely misunderstood and disregarded. They found out their previous alpha was such a vicious snake. All their plans to join with the Golden Dawn pack are out the window. Somehow, the new Alpha of the Azure pack is Alpha Storm's fated mate. So what does that mean for the pack and the direction that they're heading now?
Evie knows she has to talk to the pack and settle things. She needs to work out direction with Damon and get all the golden dawn pack separated properly again from the Azure pack. Make them two separate entities. There is a lot of work to do, but there is one thing that she needs to do before anything else.
She grabs Connor by the wrist and pulls him to the side, out of earshot of everyone else.
"Connor, thank you for all your help and I know it has cost you dearly, but I'm truly thankful that you were my fated mate. I know it sounds odd, but the bond actually helped me. It soothed my wolf and helped me heal. It allowed my wolf to gain strength at a rate that it never would have been without that bond, and I know that as strange as it sounds, that I didn't have to feel the pressure of you wanting to be intimate with me. I knew where you stood and that truly helped me. I never had to worry that you would change your mind. If it had of been anyone else, I would have been scared to be around them. But with you, we both knew where we were. I knew that you had your love and you offered me friendship and family and everything I ever needed"
Evie feels slightly strange. It is not that she wants Connor as a lover or that she needs him as a mate. They are close enough now that she knows that they will be friends for life. But it is a strange thing spending nearly every day with someone living in their pack doing everything with them to suddenly know that this is goodbye.
"I really hope you get her. I've got what I want now and I truly hope that you get what you want, because Connor, there is no one in this world that deserves to be happy more than you. You are a truly good person and I don't know what I would be without you. Truly, I was blessed to be fated to you. It is truly poetic that you are my second chance without having the first, because you gave me that second lease on life. You gave me all this"
Evie motions around at the ring and the pack behind them. She knows she still has a lot of work to do, but she is prepared for it. She is prepared for it because of the knowledge Connor gave her.
"After saying all that, I hereby release you of your duty. I, Evie Stone, Alpha of the Azure pack, here by reject you, Connor Storm, alpha of the stormy pack, as my fated mate"
Connor has a soft smile on his face and tears in his eyes. His wolf doesn't hurt like he thought it might. While he doesn't have romantic feelings for Evie, there is a deep attachment, a deep bond there and he thought that severing it might hurt more, but it just feels normal, like the bond has run its course and is no longer required.
Two alphas of two different packs have no need to be fated.
"I, Connor Storm, Alpha of the stormy pack accept your rejection"
Connor smiles as he pulls Evie in for a hug. There is nothing vicious about the rejection, it just sounds like two friends talking, there are no hard feelings, Evie gained a lot and Connor would never blame Evie for the moon goddesses choice.
"I may no longer be your fated Evie, but I hope that you will consider me your brother, your family"
"Nothing would make me happier"
Evie cries happy tears. It has been a big day. It has had its soaring heights and crushing lows. It hurts her wolf to say goodbye to Connor, but he is really gone above and beyond. She knows she is taking up too much of his time. Sometimes she feels like his dedication to her and the stormy pack is what has kept him from seeking Lani as hard as he could. He tries but the mounting responsibility pushes everything else back.
