Twisting Her Fate -
Chapter 136
Lani shakes her head at the little girl who is laughing in her arms.
"You are way too naughty"
"Sorry mummy"
Elena has the voice of an angel and her apology sounds genuine, but the devious glint in her steel-gray eyes shows that she would do it again in a heart beat. "Where is your grandma anyway?"
Just then a loud crash comes from upstairs as the solid door is smashed to the ground and a frantic woman comes rushing out, her white blonde hair is stuck to her forehead from worry. She looks down the stairs, breathing a sigh of relief as she views Elena in Leilani's arms.
She moves down the stairs so fast, taking three at a time.
"Who taught you how to lock me in the room, you cheeky demon"
Astrid scolds Elena, but the hint of tenderness in her sparkling eyes shows that Elena could throw her out the window and she would still forgive her. Lani tries to hold her laughter but eventually it bursts forth.
"Mum, that is all your genes. I had nothing to do with it, it skipped a generation, I am an angel"
Astrid smiles as she pats Lani on the shoulder, taking her cheeky granddaughter in her arms and holding her close. Looking at Lani with a smile in her eyes, true absolute blissful happiness radiating from the woman who views her perfect daughter with so much love, she is just about to burst.
"That you are Lani"
**4 weeks after separation**
Lani looks over as Levi and Terrence come out of the room. Terrence is hanging up the phone and she just knows that it was a caller to Connor which breaks her heart once again, but right now there's more important things to deal with than her rapidly declining mental stability. Levi asks.
"What is going on?"
Lani shakes her head as she stands anxiously near the front door. Looking out the rest of the group have already fanned out in a protective formation and she has been ordered very severely to stay inside, out of sight and out of trouble.
While she wouldn't usually listen to such things as she places her hand protectively over her belly, her willfulness cannot come into play anymore. She has more important things to deal with than wanting to get out in the action. "I'm not sure yet. The boys have already gone out there"
"What is going on? I thought this place was reasonably secured. Gabriel came only two days ago and now this?"
"I think we have to find somewhere safer, because without the protection of a pack border. I'm starting to feel like a sitting duck"
"I understand Gabriel, but who is this and did I hear a woman scream?"
"I know as little as you, but I thought I heard the same thing"
Leilani is fidgeting from foot to foot in anxiousness. She has felt completely wrong since leaving Connor that night. She can't sleep well. She can't eat well. All of these things pressing heavily on her as she needs to care for herself, to care for the precious thing inside of her.
She tries to sit back but for this, she can not stay put any longer. She needs to know what is happening.
Levi and Terrence follow close behind as Leilani marches outside. The sight that greets her is not what she was expecting at all. A black wolf, obviously an alpha wolf by the size of him, is facing off against her four brothers. But the thing that strikes her as the strangest is the middle-aged woman standing off to the side with her hands over her mouth, tears pouring down her face.
She has a stunning body despite her age and, as Lani looks at her short white blonde hair that is a lot more dishevelled since the last time she saw her, but is easy to remember as it is the only other person she has seen with the same color hair that she has. Astrid has obviously just come out of a shift. Lani c***s her head to the side as she recognizes the woman.
Isn't that Maggie's mother? What on earth would she be doing here?
Lani can see no possible reason why this woman would be here. And who is the wolf beside her? He is majestic, but the thing that stands out the most is the stormy blue eyes that are in perfect match to her own wolf.
Lani puts up her hands, walking straight in between the large wolves with bared teeth, dripping canines, vicious snarls. Lani walks through with her back straight and her hands up.
"What is going on here? Why are you here?"
The woman finally looks somewhere other than Oscar, wiping her tears away as she looks at the girl in front of her. She is even more beautiful than Astrid remembered.
After finally pulling herself out of the pits of despair, knowing that she wanted to see her daughter, she wanted to finally meet her daughter. So much has happened.
Finding out that not only had the men that marked her, her mate, had done all that to her and her family. He was worse than she ever could have imagined. Astrid went through another crisis of conscience trying to deal with the fact of what she had done behind her back all this time. All the families he has ruined, all the girls that he has shattered.
If she had been more aware....
To then find out Maggie is dead, even though her feelings had twisted for Maggie, she still did raise the girl for so many years. It was impossible not to feel some grief from the loss.
Then added on top of the pile that she didn't think could get any deeper with the fact that Lani had gone. She was not in the stormy pack like they were anticipating and Alpha Storm was just as desperate to find her as they were.
Astrid lost her mate. She lost her adopted daughter and then her real daughter that she never got a chance to know was missing. Her world was ending all over again. The blows were coming just too hard and fast but Oscar never lost hope of being able to track down his sister.
He firmly believed that they had a connection. Astrid doesn't know whether it was pure luck that they found this place or it was really true, but none of that matters anymore because standing in front of her is her beautiful Cora. Could there be anything more amazing?
"Cora?"
Astrid whispers as she falls to her knees, tears of joy replacing the tears of fear. Lani frowns slightly but cannot bring herself to be cruel to the woman. "Look lady, I don't know who you're looking for, I don't know why you think I am Cora. But stop calling me that. My name is Leilani"
The large black wolf's stormy blue eyes look Leilani over, breathing a sigh of relief and his tensioned muscles finally relax as much as he had promised his mother that he would find Leilani and that was his goal. It has been a rough three weeks. The amber pack is in complete disrepair after the capture of the alpha and the release of the information of what he has done. Oscar has barely tried to start mending things because for him it is more important to find Leilani, since his goal of being able to take out Simon was thwarted by the fact that Simon is worse and he ever could have possibly imagined and he has never been so thankful that the same blood does not run through his veins. He has never been so happy that Simon is not his biological father.
Finding out that Simon actually got taken away by the elite group which is who he has been trying to track down. There is nothing about them that has been easy to find.
As the black wolf shifts into a muscular, beautiful man, Leilani frowns slightly recognizing the man as Maggie's brother.
What on earth would the pair of them want with her? Why are they here? What do they have planned? Are they trying to get to Simon?
Oscar just looks at Leilani. His eyes filling with tears. He reaches out of hand but pauses not from the snarls of the wolves around him, just from the cautious look in Leilani's eyes and the flinch response she has to him. He knows that she is his precious sister, but to her, he is nobody, he doesn't have the right to touch her at all.
"Would it be okay if we came inside? We have something very important to discuss"
Leilani frowns as she considers the proposal. They have already found the hiding place, so at this point, the two coming inside is not really going to affect anything. They can't hurt her or her brothers as they are outmatched completely. Leilani nods and turns on her heel, walking back towards the house.
Oscar picks up his mother from the ground, holding her close to him and walking back a couple of meters to retrieve a small bag.
Lani's brothers don't shift as they keep her protective barrier between the two invaders and Leilani.
Lani is already precious to them and the cargo she is carrying is even more precious.
Lani feels the warm breeze blowing through her hair. Her fists clench at the sides of her body and she feels a strange sensation. She feels a strange amount of trust for the two people that she should never have that sensation from.
