Twisting Her Fate
Chapter 150

Lani looks at Gabriel.

"I didn't ever think this would be possible, all of this is so different to what I was expecting"

"If you told me ten years ago when I just found out, if you told me how this would end, I would have thought you were insane, but I am kind of glad it went the way it did. Back then, my only goal was to be alpha. I didn't understand the job or the responsibilities involved, I just wanted the title. I realize now, I didn't have much hope for my life, but now I think I actually want something more"

"I am glad, you know I really like the person you have become"

Gabriel smiles a genuine smile.

"Me too"

Lani squeezes his hand once more.

"Have a shower and get ready and then come up to the main house and we will try to work out the best plan"

Gabriel kisses Lani on the forehead before standing up and heading to the bathroom. He doesn't really feel a sense of freedom that one would expect as he was reasonably free. The only reason he was down here and not in the main house was to stop him being seen by any outsiders. They kept him here only to ensure the safety of Lani's wolf. He wasn't truly a prisoner since the day the twins were born. That day, he went from a prisoner to a trusted member of the fusion pack.

Lani leaves as Gabriel walks to the bathroom. She feels good as she walks out into the early morning air. It is slightly cold but the sun still bathes her skin given that tinge of warmth. She's happy in this moment. She should have done it long ago. It wasn't fair for Gabriel to stay with her and be locked up after giving her so much when it was only for her own gain.

Connor had quickly packed his bag and as soon as he was in the tree line he had shifted and run straight in the direction of the house in which she had found Leilani, not caring at all about the border crossing this time. Just a new sense of determination. Evie was right, he had been second-guessing himself so much. He was so confident coming in that he could win Lani over. So confident that he was the best person for her. But he heard a single word and he was ready to hand in the towel? He walked away after that passionate scene in the alley without a word. What is wrong with him? That is not the Connor Storm who has been through countless obstacles.

He needs to get his confidence back. He is not defeated so easily. He is not sure why, but when it comes to Leilani, everything seems to go wrong.

As soon as Connor reaches the tree line, he shifts quickly, pulling on a pair of shorts and nothing else, discarding the bag without a second thought. Just as he is about to charge the pack house, he sees Leilani walking over the grass in the open sunshine by herself. She is dressed so much more casually than the day before, yet she is so beautiful that he feels like getting on his knees and praying, thanking the moon goddess for allowing such perfection. The sight of her brings tears to his eyes and suddenly, everything becomes clear.

He loves this woman so much. He needs to tell her he needs to talk to her. Even if it is purely just to get it off his chest. He needs to say it, no more running away.

Lani has decided that instead of looking up Connor, she is going to hack into the security cameras from the club and see who it was that she was with last night. If it wasn't Connor, she is going to find whoever it was on the off chance that he can help her get her wolf back.

She needs to know, and this is the safest route.

Lani looks down at the green grass as she walks, her mind focused on the task at hand because she wants to get that done quickly before Gabriel is in need of a solution to his problem and she only has limited time until the twins are awake.

Lani sees a pair of bare feet in front of her. Her eyes slowly trail up and thick muscular calves over somehow stunning knees, to the start of shapely thighs covered in a pair of black shorts. Her eyes trail over a sculpted, perfect mermaid lines, the thick recessed abdominal muscles, two perfectly shaped and strong pectoral muscles, thick defined shoulder muscles, a thick and long neck with flawless skin. A chiseled jaw with a heavy coating of thick dark stubble, a perfect straight nose until she hits a pair of very familiar steel gray eyes that are focused directly on her.

She chokes back a sob as she looks at the man in front of her. Tears fall down her soft pale cheeks as Connor clenches his fists and just says what is in his heart.

"Lani, I love you. There is no one in this world that will love you more than I do. You are the air I breathe, you are the beat of my heart. You are the only one for me, you are my everything. Fate made a mistake, it was only ever you. You are the perfect match for me" Leilani is choked. It was him last night and now somehow he is standing in front of her saying all the things she wants to hear. It is a dream come true, yet it is so unbelievable that she has to pinch the skin on her arm just to make sure it isn't a dream. "Connor"

The word comes out more as a desperate sob.

"I'm here. Leilani, I'm sorry it took so long to find you. I'm sorry if you have already moved on, but I have to tell you what is in my heart and what is in my heart is only you and will only ever be you" Leilani takes a tentative step forward, wanting to reach out to him, but stops herself.

"Connor, I've lost my wolf. I'm not the woman that you knew before"

Connor looks at Lani in shock. He was trying to work out what was different about her. There was something last night that he couldn't pick up on and as she stands in front of him now, he was too focused on getting the words out. He didn't pay attention to her

aura.

Leilani waits with bated breath, knowing that he could take all his words back, that he could change his mind, he could take all his love back, he could turn around and leave. She doesn't ask for an explanation about Evie. She just stands there watching the man that confessed his feelings only moments ago, waiting to see if he will turn and walk away from her and all her weakness.

Connor is only silent for a moment, he doesn't ask how it happened, he doesn't ask any of the million questions that are buzzing around his brain.

He just takes three steps forward to close the distance between them.

"Lani, I don't care about that at all, you could lose your arms and your legs and I would still love you the same. I have enough strength to protect you and keep you safe, wolf or not"

He reaches his large hand out and caresses her temple.

"I love you for what is in here..."

His large palm presses softly against her heart, it feels impossible that such a large, powerful palm can have such a gentle touch.

"...And what is in here. I love you for what you are. I was always in awe of your power, but it was never the reason I loved you. My love is so much deeper than that"

The tears run down Lani's face faster as she lifts her hand and holds it over Connor's hand on her chest. She looks into his eyes, she can feel his love, it is so strong that it matches her own.

As Lani opens her mouth to speak, two little voices are heard.

"Mummy"

Ace runs over holding his sisters hand. He looks at the man in front of his mother. The man looks like the photo that his mother keeps in each of their rooms. "Daddy, it is daddy"

Connor looks in shock at the two gorgeous children that are running toward them. Even from a distance he can see their features, Connor can see these two kids are eerily similar to himself, especially the boy, if he could take a photo of himself from his younger years and 3D print it, it would be this child in front of him. Tears fall down his face as his eyes move and he looks at Lani questioning her, but he knows the answer already.

They have children together. She birthed his children. He doesn't know what happened. He doesn't need to know what happened. All he knows is that he is thanking the goddess repeatedly. So incredibly thankful for this moment. So thankful to the woman in front of him who is looking back at him. He can see the fear in her eyes. He looks over and sees the excited expressions on the two children's faces.

He hears the word daddy once more and it is like everything that has been up in the air, everything that has been distorted for so long suddenly falls into place. He looks in Lani's stormy blue eyes once more before he drops to his knees embracing the two toddlers that run up to him excitedly, his tears flow freely as four small arms wrap around his expansive chest. Two little soft bodies snuggle in under his large arms.
