Twisting Her Fate -
Chapter 28
Gabriel is nearly kicked out of the bed as the she wolf's limbs thrash wildly. He growls as he tries to restrain Maggie. Maggie clutches her chest as she screams. As Gabriel looks at her he can't help but think about what happened last night. The more Gabriel looks, the more he recognizes the actions, the clutching of the heart, the pain throughout the body. It is exactly the same as what he was feeling yesterday.
The one thing that struck him yesterday and it is unexplainable, but he just keeps having a feeling that it is the mate bond. It is impossible, but at the same time it is the most probable.
Unless he had been dark magic cursed for brief little snippets of time, but that would make no sense.
So is it possible that he has a second chance mate out there? If so, if they were close enough to form the bond wouldn't he have sensed them and if they were close and she knew, why wouldn't she have approached him? Wouldn't she be seeking glory? Wouldn't she be trying to take him as a mate? And if it was the case and she did know what would they be doing running off f*cking someone else when he was right there? Shouldn't there be grovelling and begging?
In the last few days he hasn't ventured any further than the pack house. Not even really running errands or anything could have been before that. But the faint feeling in the morning and then the crushing blow that night.
What was different on those days? Who came in to pack?
There was only the elite squad but they ruled out because they are all men and he would have smelt something if there was something. They were all present when the pain started.
If the bond can cripple him to that stage, isn't that just a walking threat? He needs to find out what is happening. It is a liability.
He has already got rid of one mate. It is easy enough to get rid of the next.
But maybe she's worth while? Gabriel looks at Maggie, who is writhing and screaming. Her beautiful face scrunched up into a look he has never seen before. She is screaming in agony, looking nothing like the strong alpha wolf she is meant to be.
It might be worth a look at this mate before he gets rid of her. He cannot be cursed with two worthless mates, can he?
But if she was of any value, she would have approached. Could it be possible that they just randomly passed each other and both not known? One would have to know, wouldn't they?
Gabriel finally gathers Maggie in his arms.
"Shut up"
All the whimpering is getting on his nerves. Maybe this new mate is stronger than Maggie, Gabriel scowls as he stares up at the ceiling. It still comes down to the point of whether she is happy for him to be with others. As annoying as Maggie is, that has always been the biggest selling point, even when they were young, she never demanded commitment, as long as she was the favorite, the others didn't matter.
It takes a lot out of Maggie, but finally the pain settles.
Her voice is meek and she looks delicate, almost fragile, looking like if he speaks too loud she will shatter.
"What was that?"
"I am assuming the mate bond"
"But you?"
"I haven't worked that part out yet"
Maggie pauses as she ponders over the implications, so yesterday wasn't a joke? Connor is moving on and sleeping with someone without even seeing her or fighting for her?
"What the hell, how could he do this to me?"
Gabriel scoffs a laugh.
"What do you think you have been acting all chastise since meeting with him? You think you didn't make him feel the same thing?"
Maggie thinks back, she was probably having s*x with Gabriel only half an hour after meeting Connor.
"So what is he doing now? Trying to make me jealous?"
Gabriel grabs Maggie's face between two fingers, manipulating it so that her hazel eyes stare into his ice-blue eyes.
"Are you feeling jealous?"
Maggie knows when to hide her cards, she already let him see too much. She wraps her arms around his neck, coaxing him.
"Of course not. Why would I be jealous when my man is a hundred times better than him?"
But deep inside Maggie is seething, Connor was meant to be torn up by the whole thing. Isn't she worth a grieving period? Shouldn't he be trying to pick up his tattered hopes and dreams knowing that the perfect woman will never be his? How dare he make her feel that, how dare he sleep with someone?

Connor watches as Leilani slides her legs into her tights. She is not embarrassed, she doesn't try and hide anything from him, it is that confidence that attracted him to her in the first place. She has this way of attracting all eyes to her and she doesn't care in the slightest who watches, instead she revels in it, soaks it in.
Connor tucks her safely under his arm when she is dressed as they walk toward the main area of the house, Leilani receiving a lot of curious looks, not just because of her stunning beauty, but because Connor never flaunts a girl. The pack members can tell she is special to him.
Leilani doesn't shy away from the looks, just smiling politely, a small wave here and there, and Connor just watches every one of her movements with interest. How Gabriel threw away the perfect luna he will never know, but Gabriel's stupidity is Connor's gain. They finally make their way into the kitchen where the others are all sitting around the table. There are not too many other pack members around, probably the imposing presence of having so many high-ranking wolves in one place is a little hard to handle. With this in mind, Connor links Harvey.
'Meet me in my study in half an hour'
Harvey looks up from his breakfast as he sits at the opposite end of the table as the others nodding at Connor. He is keen to know exactly what is going on. Leilani slips out of Connor's grasp, running straight to Terrance. "Looks like you went shirtless for a very good reason this time"
"Maybe I just like showing off my amazing body"
Leilani's fingers run over Levi's mark on Terrance's shoulder before embracing Levi.
"I am so happy for you"
"Thanks Lani"
Connor sits down at the table, pulling Lani down on his lap.
"So did it work?"
The five look at each other as they start to laugh.
"It worked, by the time we were loading in the car he was screaming in anguish, like anyone was going to save him"
"I wish I could have stayed and watched with a bucket of popcorn"
"I wish I could have thrown rotten eggs just to add to it"
"I wish I could have laid the boot in just to add to it"
Leilani smiles as she watches her brothers talk about Gabriel's pain-filled screams like they were watching a comedy show. Connor's hand tightens around her waist.
"Now we know he can feel it, it makes things easier. Obviously, we can't just keep going for that as he will build up resistance in the same way Connor has"
Leilani pauses, her fingers drumming on the table, her voice lowered even though the others have already exited.
"I don't know if Maggie will have the skills to endure as well as Gabriel, it will be easier to attack her that way for a longer period. I vote to attack Maggie physically and attack Gabriel mentally. Let's f*ck with his mind"
Connor just watches Leilani, like he is an outsider, a mere observer of a mess that they are planning on creating, like she isn't planning on using his body as a weapon of revenge.
Terrance just watches Connor, it is interesting, he has never seen Connor act in this way at all, just catering to this immature scheme with a gentle look in his eyes and a small smile on his face.
The whole thing doesn't worry Terrance, it actually calms his heart. Connor is an important part of his life. Connor saved him when no one else would. He is the only one that never cared about their massive differences or that wolves and warlocks are not meant to get along. Connor treated him as a friend, as family when the rest of the world turned its back.
To see his friend that had to grow up way too fast finally look genuinely happy. Terrance's eyes move to Leilani, she is the one that inspired change, she is the one that can save Connor from a monotonous cold life.
She is the one that sent his mate to his door.
Terrance has no doubt that she is incredibly special.
The whole group is special, ever since meeting Connor, after learning that werewolves are not just savage beasts as he was taught as a child, Terrance was always taken with the idea of having a mate, wondering if it would be possible for him. Finding one and being accepted straight into a group of misfits is something beyond what he could have imagined, but amazing.
Connor catches his gaze and smiles knowingly before resting his chin back on Leilani's shoulder, feeding off her excitement about her own evil schemes. He hasn't felt so content in a long time.
