The man lifted the chainsaw once more, but Adrian was prepared, his hands clenched into fists, ready to fight.

However, just as the tension peaked, the man abruptly turned off the chainsaw.

“You are too noisy; keep it quiet,” he grumbled to Ariana and Adrian, then turned and vanished into the elevator.

Alone once more, Ariana and Adrian looked at each other in confusion.

That was it? The man just left?

The pungent smell of blood lingered in the air.

Ariana sniffed, noticing something peculiar.

Blood typically smelled of iron, yet there was an additional wild, animal-like scent mixed in here.

Could the man have been dealing with animals other than humans?

This question sparked another thought in Ariana’s mind.

“Why did he leave?” she asked.

“A mad scientist like him would usually get mad if his subjects tried to escape, wouldn’t he?”

“Who knows? It’s better for us that he’s gone,” Adrian replied, his attention shifting back to the keypad.

Their goal was clear: they needed to escape and find Holden.

Ariana understood this.

Adrian punched in codes repeatedly without success until, suddenly, the keypad chirped a triumphant sound.

“The password’s unlocked!” Ariana cried out, a wave of relief washing over her.

Her relief, however, was fleeting.

A mechanical voice from the door soon echoed.

Ariana was stunned.

“Damn it!” Adrian exclaimed, his frustration boiling over.

No wonder the scientist had just left them there; he knew they couldn’t escape.
