The nurse paused, momentarily surprised by the request, and then smiled warmly.

“Of course,” she replied.

“Thank you,” Ariana said softly, managing a faint smile.

After the nurse left, Holden hung up the phone and sat back on the edge of Ariana’s bed.

Suddenly, Ariana called his name.

“Yes?” Holden responded softly, brushing his hand against her forehead.

“What did you talk to the nurse about?”

“I asked her if I could eat because I’m feeling a bit hungry,”

Ariana replied weakly, lying on the bed and looking at him.

“Holden, my stomach feels empty.

Could you find something for me to eat?”

Holden’s heart lifted at Ariana’s request.

It signaled a positive turn in her condition.

Without hesitation, he stood up and left to get her some food.

After he left, Ariana lay on the bed alone, feeling dejected.

She was acutely aware of her physical condition.

Every breath was a struggle, a reminder of how weak she really was.

If she couldn’t survive… What would happen to Holden and the children?

Could she leave everything behind and die? The thought was unbearable.

She couldn’t do that.

At the thought of this, Ariana curled up slightly, finding it impossible to contain her sorrow.

“I’m back,” Holden announced as he entered the ward, carrying a tray of nutritious food.

Ariana heard his voice and quickly turned, wiping away her tears with the pillow.

She didn’t want him to see her crying again.

Sniffling, Ariana composed herself, and Holden helped her sit up gently and began to feed her.

But after a few spoonfuls, Ariana vomited.

She shook her head, indicating she couldn’t eat anymore.

“If you can’t eat it right now, we can just save it for later,”

Holden said softly, his demeanor calm and reassuring.

“You can eat when you’re feeling better.

”

Ariana nodded.

“Okay,” she murmured.

Holden set the food aside and called for people to clean the floor.

He then tenderly wiped Ariana’s face clean and stayed by her side as she drifted off to sleep.

Once Ariana was asleep, Holden quietly slipped out of the room.

As he closed the door and turned around, he was surprised to see Sonia, Sarah, and Tyler approaching from the corridor.

They had heard that Ariana had woken up and had come to see her.
