“How is she doing with her autism?” Catalina’s voice was gentle, barely louder than a whisper, as if she feared disturbing Adele during her meal.

Ariana balanced Adele snugly in one arm while holding a dish of egg custard in the other.

“If you ever need help, just tell me,” Catalina offered, her gaze lifting to meet Ariana’s.

Ariana nodded appreciatively, and their conversation flowed effortlessly from there.

Meanwhile, Adele, lost in the intricacies of adult talk, began to squirm, clearly bored.

Suddenly, something caught Adele’s attention, and she wriggled free from Ariana’s embrace.

Ariana looked down to see Adele tiptoeing toward the Christmas tree, her fingers eager to explore the candies nestled among the branches.
